Hey everyone, I gave this presentation on Learning Agents earlier this year and I'm really pleased with how it turned out. Would love your feedback.

If you found the presentation interesting and you would like to learn more, you can check out our tutorial for Learning Agents with UE 5.5: https://dev.epicgames.com/community/learning/courses/GAR/unr...

I read a lot of this as it was being written and found it to be extremely helpful and oddly had a lot of “this was written for me” moments.

I’m confused about the hate towards Valve since they have created the steam marketplace where you can sell and buy in-game items, to literally address one of the main points of this article. The problem is that Rocket League isn’t using this system (I guess, I don’t play it).

This happens with teams of humans as well. Without a formal leader, teams will naturally have one (or more) leaders emerge.

The ideal team doesn’t need leadership and consists of mostly self-sufficient members, but the de jure leader merely exists at that point to ensure some tyrant doesn’t come to power. Since this isn’t very time consuming, they are free to do other work haha.

There’s not even evidence for reincarnation “on Earth” in the Bible anyways so not sure what the OP is going on about.

I do think it is a useful exercise to imagine yourself in the future though. It’s much easier when you have children to be connected to the future.

I’m guessing Three Mile Island + Chernobyl. Maybe start here https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-nuclear_movement_in_the...
I don't believe giving money to poor people will make them lazier, nor do I believe we should give free money to rich people.

Ultimately, they want to give money to people that need it and will put it to good use (for whose definition of good, I don't know... also, we HOPE that is the case but obviously people are biased, politicians included). Sometimes it's individuals who need money, sometimes it's businesses (which is why they did both).

I will tell you that I personally did not need any of the individual stimulus money, but I got the full amount because I don't make a ton; however, there are others who need the money because they have expenses much higher than mine, e.g. they have debt of some kind.

Not trying to muddy the waters. I am trying to say it's not always clear who needs money and who doesn't.

Isn't this mainly a game theory problem? If you don't force a minimum wage, then competitors will undercut each other.

As much as we like to believe WE would go to the "more ethical place", unless the average person did then ultimately the undercutter will win. Now real life is not that black and white obviously. Costco pays a pretty decent wage allegedly but they make up for it in creative ways (like having the warehouse also be the storefront).

Oh I totally agree in this particular instance nothing good came from this "bailout". I'm merely trying to say I understand why small businesses need bailouts in addition to their employees.
The problem isn't really people quitting actually because like you said, that could be good. It's more like the business can't pay to stay open because there aren't enough customers to cover the variable costs. So now the business is closed and you have no where to spend your money... This realistically only affects small businesses like your local grocery store or whatever. Once the pandemic lifts, all that cheap property gets bought up by the Walmarts of the world and the concentration of power to the top 1% continues.

Right? I could totally be wrong here.

I'm not saying you're wrong when I say consider the following: if every individual had a bunch of free money and decided to not work, then the next day they drive to the store and there is no one working... what do they do? Didn't you just cause a ton of inflation?

At the end of the day, money doesn't solve problems. Work being done solves problems.

How that should affect policy... I have no idea but I can see both sides of the problem.

Usually the qualities that matter most cannot be quantified (un)fortunately... One way to combat this is to have the interviewing team consist of people with different backgrounds. For example, if you want to hire more women, it probably makes sense to have women involved as interviewers for all candidates. If you don't have the ability to do this, then I'm not sure what the solution is.
Re:Want people to do the right thing? Save them the guilt trip on Wednesday August 26, 2020 @10:25AM (#24282740)
Another way to spin this thought that sounds less "evil" is that you can guilt trip people over good behaviors in order to entrench the good behavior.

This sounds likely to fuck people up in the head and also to hurt your relationship, so I wouldn't do it myself but it is interesting to think about. The ends don't justify the means.

I find this to be the most disturbing part. I have done a substantial amount of game development myself on the side, it's how I got into programming originally ~15 years ago. I say that because I find it demotivating sometimes to work on games that I think are fun and non-addictive. My wife will show me some simple addictive game on the phone and ask why I can't just make a knock-off version of that... I could, but at what cost?

Some part of me really wishes that "gambling" in games would finally get cracked down on to level the playing field for the rest of us.

I now have a 5 month old son and that has really amplified my thinking of the future. I will of course educate my children on the dangers of addictive games, etc. but what about others? It's sad, but also classic "think of the children!"

This could work both ways. Workers have more options for employment meaning they can jump to a higher paying job without having to uproot their life.
Thanks for all your hard work Jeremy. In Cleveland, we are running a study group with about 30 people on the 2018 version of the course. Because of logistics, we aren't planning on rescheduling to match the new course, but its still nice knowing that the library is being invested into.

There was a modern legal deck which used this card and birthing pod (now banned) and actually won a decent number of mtgo events: http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg...
