Yeah, I was playing the browser version. That was probably it. By the way, this might seem like a noob question but how did you get started with procedural generation? What would you suggest if I wanted to get started with it?

Hey, it is a neat game. Definitely loved the art-style and the music. I would love to see where it goes.

With that said, a few things I would note:

1) The controls feel restrictive at times. When the enemy is right next to me, the enemy has a much easier hitting me. If the enemy corners me against a wall, they can easily land multiple hits before I can fight back (which is also how I died).

2) The sword can hit through walls. This is probably a bug, but when the enemy is another room but right next to the wall common to both rooms, I can easily hit him without taking damage.

3) This happened just once, but apparently, the command for move RIGHT got stuck. The player kept moving right, even when I lifted the key. I couldn't replicate this, so it might be one of the accidents that happen once every 100 times.

Ask HN: What sub-field should I focus on?

Hi, I'm a CS university student from India and have recently finished my freshmen year. I have an age-old habit of self-studying so for the summer break I have been exploring the various subfields in CS.To enumerate, these are the subfields I have encountered or even heard in passing: -> Algorithms & Data Structures -> Operating Systems -> CS theory like Theory of Computation,...

Bookmarked.

I picked up Crime and Punishment a few years ago, but had to put it down, due to both foreseeable and unforeseeable circumstances. How would you introduce it if you were to recommend it to someone?

Re:Ask HN: Which books have made you introspect? on Friday May 11, 2018 @05:19AM (#17045912)
Yes, this was another one of the books I read last year. I liked how it separated the world into internal and external. I realized how much smoother life became once I focused on living with an internal set of principles, rather than external expectations.

Ask HN: Which books have made you introspect?

Hi all, Nearly an year ago, I faced a life-shattering crisis that completely wrecked my world view. Since then I have rebuilt up from scratch, and I have found that a lot of the things that I used to believe were false. Books such as Man's Search for Meaning have been very pivotal in that regard. What books could you recommend for the same?

Ask HN: What keeps you going?

I am a university student in CS, and I have been programming for over three years now. The initial motivation for studying CS came from the ability to make a computer do anything I wanted, but over the years, this feeling has dissipated. What keeps you going over the long term? What makes you wake up every morning and sit down to code again?

Ask HN: Can a computer ever tell a when the user is lying?

Hi all, I am designing a game based on deception, wherein the game often lies to the player and the player has to catch when it is lying. It occurred to me, what if the player could lie to the computer as well? Then I could make non-playable characters all the more dynamic. However, to achieve that, the computer should be able to tell that it is being lied to.In short: is it possible under any...

Re:Ask HN: Resources for Software Engineering on Saturday April 28, 2018 @06:28PM (#16949754)
While I understand the sentiment of learning by building, would it be appropriate to build a large software system in such a manner?

Ask HN: Resources for Software Engineering

Hi all. I'm a 2nd year CS student who is well-versed with the basics of CS. I have completed a couple of small projects, which included a Tic-Tac-Toe and a minimalist RPG.Over the summer, I would like to focus on building larger and more complex software systems, and over the next semester, I would be teaching what I learn to the freshmen at my institute. What resources(books/videos/tutorials)...

Ask HN: How to setup a software culture in my school

I'm a undergraduate freshman at an above average engineering school in India. My school has one of highest rated computer science and engineering programmes in the country, right after the top 10. It also has the students of sufficient intellectual capacity. One of the reasons I joined this institution was because I was informed that there was an excellent coding culture in place. However, since...
