Re:Tailscale SSH: Investigation and remediation update on Wednesday October 28, 2026 @11:36AM (#50275453)
It's so unusual that I'm starting to wonder if this was intended to harm Tailscale's public image. These don't appear to be major flaws, and if the purpose of publishing was to get them fixed there's a well known process for responsible disclosure. Sounds like they didn't even attempt to follow that.

Fly out of a bad situation and straight into another one.
Re:Lobbying on Saturday October 10, 2026 @01:46AM (#50029977)
> Remember the rule change to the amortization of software expenses, which inadvertently would have killed thousands of software companies?

While I’m sure this was lobbied heavily against by many companies, I don’t think that’s what did it. This was bad legislation done on purpose to poison the next administration, then undone as convenient.

Re:Cloudflare K2: serverless event streams on Thursday October 01, 2026 @02:50PM (#49925561)
I'm a little surprised the Docker CLI doesn't support this directly, since gcr.io works this way. Maybe there's a thin layer between the bucket and the CLI? Neat that you worked it out for the generic case.
Re: on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @06:42PM (#49543590)
Very nice, I like your approach and design.

Counting up would be preferred for me on some tasks. Sometimes the timesheet approach is needed, it'd be great if you could support both.

Re:Almost no skill required to cook a steak on Thursday August 06, 2026 @07:16PM (#49203934)
I've had a Combustion thermometer since they came out. The best uses for me are butterflied whole chicken on the grill and roasts in the oven. You can get extremely precise results and account for carry over cooking very easily. Huge leap in results.
Re:The Artist Who Colored Ghibli on Monday July 27, 2026 @05:02PM (#49075484)
Animation Obsessive continues to deliver some of my favorite reads online. Well researched, detailed, and interesting. I'd wondered about the Ghibli colors, feels like that's not talked about much. Cool article!
Re:Book Prizes Don't Work How You Think on Wednesday July 15, 2026 @09:57PM (#48929541)
Neither part of that quote mentions a quota for the longlists. Am I missing something?
Re:Temporary Cloudflare Accounts for AI Agents on Monday June 22, 2026 @02:25PM (#48633957)
Yeah, it's still up at this time. That's surprising that it's not being auto cleaned up.

If you want an example of a sacrifice caused by regulation before technology had fully caught up, banning sperm whale oil in automatic car transmissions comes to mind: https://www.nytimes.com/1975/04/17/archives/transmission-pro...
Re:On The Conflation of Money and Things on Thursday May 14, 2026 @01:10PM (#48138166)
My mobile browser gave up it was so bad. Shame, it seemed like it could have been an interesting read.
Re:Building for the Future on Thursday May 07, 2026 @04:44PM (#48054702)
Wow, can't say I saw this one coming. Cloudflare has been putting out a lot of strong work lately. What percentage of their workforce is this?
Re:United Wizards of the Coast on Monday April 27, 2026 @03:42PM (#47926350)
I’ve seen this done as a carve-out or exception that has to be explicitly documented. Trouble is that documentation is not presented as simple.
Wow that's nuts. What a great idea! I wonder how much of this the commercial flying probe machines can do already. Pretty cool to be able to have this on a home scale.
Here it is for those who haven't: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZk2jV5gJbM

When I looked it up, turns out I've seen it too!

They are arguing that Trump is controlled by a foreign adversary and doing these things at their direction.
Re:My home network observes bedtime with OpenBSD and pf on Thursday March 26, 2026 @11:11AM (#47531479)
Love your watercolors! What a fun addition to a technical article :)
Curious why the CLI function is `mvd` instead of `mdv`?
If someone put on their website and voicemail that they were available for calls only from 8-10am (for example), or that they would return my call at that time, I'd make a point to call them then. It's reasonable that people are busy too.
They almost certainly already do. If you just look into Axon you'll see they have tons of cloud-based and AI products. Axon is the major player in police body cameras in the US.
Re:Ghostty – Terminal Emulator on Sunday March 01, 2026 @12:51PM (#47208945)
Same. As far as I can tell, Ghostty is still in active development and unfinished. For regular use iTerm 2 is a complete product that can be relied upon.
Re:A Crisis comes to Wordle: Reusing old words on Sunday February 01, 2026 @03:56PM (#46849293)
I will say that having used the same starter word the whole time that has not come up yet, it's a little disappointing that it may now take even longer to appear.
It wouldn't shock me if multiple people came up with this idea independently. I've certainly experimented with it over the last couple years.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025) on Sunday December 14, 2025 @03:05PM (#46266319)
Glad to see you're doing this! I was wondering if the currency button could be changed. Defaulting to Euro is fine, but being able to switch that shortcut would be handy.
Re:CM0 – a new Raspberry Pi you can't buy on Friday December 12, 2025 @12:16PM (#46246178)
geerlingguy and simonw really amaze me at how well and consistently they cover their respective spaces of interest. Great content, easy to read, and thorough! I'm sure there are others doing deep reporting like this on their own subjects. I'd love to read them too.
Re:Contact Sheet Prompting on Thursday December 11, 2025 @04:45PM (#46237633)
Neat! It looks like the first video under "adapting it" is broken somehow. Wish I could see that.
Re:Frinkiac – 3M "The Simpsons" Screencaps on Monday December 08, 2025 @03:58PM (#46197581)
Have you written about the tech behind Frinkiac and Morbotron at all? I'm super curious how it works (although I'm sure I could guess), and also how it might be generalized for other shows. Hosting infrastructure and cost to run would be interesting too!
One possible option might be to set up email ingestion. My brokerage will send a daily update, for example. It's not super detailed, but it's a start.
Re:WeatherNext 2: Our most advanced weather forecasting model on Monday November 17, 2025 @12:51PM (#45956024)
I've found this to be more related to poor representation of the data than inaccurate data.

For example on Apple's Weather app, a "rainy" day means a high chance of rain at any point during the day. If it's 80% chance of rain at 5am and sunny the rest of the day– that counts as rainy. You can see an hourly report for more info, and generally this is pretty accurate. You have to learn how to find the right data, know your local area, and interpret it yourself.

Then you have to consider what effects this has on your plans and it gets more complicated. Finding a window to walk the dog, choosing a day to go sailing, or determining conditions for backcountry skiing all have different requirements and resources. What I'd like AI to do is know my own interests and highlight what the forecast means for me.
