And many people choose to be born into poverty with never a chance to succeed.
> The question is, do you think US Government on all levels is efficient enough to be trusted with even more jobs/resources to manage? And if it's not, what the people of us should actually do to make it happen?
Instead we're ruled by large, monopolistic corporations that have so much power they can avoid paying taxes, pay off almost any politician and basically set any policy that they want. I'll never understand why people are fine with our current system.
I think your comment is basically neoliberlism in a nutshell. Let the market decide, right?

But there ARE actions taken to prevent accidents. Anti-texting campaigns, DUI enforcement, street planning efforts, safer cars, signage and reflective material on roads. These things have undoubtedly saved some lives.
But when it comes to guns we just throw up ours hands and say whaddya gonna do.
Right, so then the austerity kicks in. On some level the GOP knows this.
Aligns well with the GOP goal of taking us back to fuedalism
Maybe it's time for us to all start companies that cater to the rich. Get the crumbs wherever we can. /s
And it's a race to the bottom. If you aren't rich, eat shit.
For those that complain that high tax rates are holding CA and NY back - how do you explain all of the growth and innovation from these states for decades?
Boomers may feel some pain though when Medicare and social security are cut next. All signs point to the GOP suddenly crying about the deficit now.
Because somehow it always comes back to this

How do you backup your company's data, especially data kept in a database? How often? Where do you store the backups? How do you know that the backup process actually runs successfully?

I know how to use databases but am sometimes fuzzy on how they actually work under the hood. Can you recommend good books or other resources for learning database internals?
Well I'm pretty sure that they are against it for different reasons. Government surveillance is something that a paranoid, insecure person like Trump is going to love.
Are you sure that Trump sees any problem at all with the government spying portion of TPP?
To me secrecy sort of makes sense because it's a negotiation.
You don't want to show your cards in a negotiation, right? So how could the President and Congress say to the American people "this is what we're going to offer and accept from China" and pretend that the Chinese aren't going to hear it too?
Secrecy is often a horrible idea but this is a really complicated issue.
Absolutely this. If he were transparent about his financial dealings we would know how much Russia really means to him.
My guess is Putin has compromised Trump and Trump as POTUS benefits Russia greatly.
While I agree with you and I tend to stay as lean as possible, it always perplexes me why people want a Django/RoR/Phoenix in Go.
These other frameworks are mature and battle tested enough in agreeable enough programming languages, why attempt to reinvent them in Go?
Go's strength and afaik original purpose for Google was for creating smaller services, not a web app monolith.
The answer is to rework city zoning laws to allow for more vertical building and less car parking requirements, but $$$, nimbyism and "I was here first" thinking gets in the way. Way more people want to live in cities than can afford it and it's a shame that cities aren't thinking about this enough.
It's a people problem, not a technology one - the elevator was already invented.
"The Rent Is Too Damn High" is a good, short book on this.
This looks great, thanks. I look forward to the future books that talk about technology from a geopolitical pov.
Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl by Carrie Brownstein
Incredibly well written, touching and also an insider look at a period of American music that I'm really interested in.
Because they are Republican-dominated and their guy won
Especially since he has time to meet with Kanye West
I deleted my FB account years ago and haven't regretted it.
Its true though that I have less (fake) friends now.
They don't until things break, your app can't handle the amount of requests coming in, can't insert and fetch data in a reasonable amount of time, etc.
It's at this point that shit falls apart and the manager starts to care about these technical choices and all of the time and money that will be needed to be spent to rewrite.
Call it maintenance costs if you want but those costs are directly affected by the technology decisions you make.
This. Developer happiness matters.
