I too have a child with Ushers (1F). We told him at age 10, though obviously it didn't really register until some years later. Please feel free to reach out to me.

I worked on that project from the Palm side. Visited Olathe a couple times too. That was one of the more fun integrations.

I have an (adult) child with Usher Syndrome, and have lots of connections and resources that I'd be happy to share. There is a a decent amount of research going on right now. If you like, feel free to reach me at my username at gmail.

I worked there until very close to the end, and the collapse of GO/Eo provided me with a priceless instant network of friends at dozens of companies around the SF Bay Area.
I met my spouse and some of my best friends through GO/Eo, and to this day still greatly value the connections made there for my personal and professional networks. Silver linings.

I'm also an MCC alum - I worked in the Software Technology Program. My code there had a surprisingly long life - transitioning to a spin out startup and then other companies. (See gIBIS https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compendium_(software)#Histor... ). I too learned Lisp (and Emacs!) there - two tools that have stuck with me ever since. Many of us also started to learn Japanese there.

You are correct - that's the main reason I wrote the 1pass wrapper mentioned above. It mirrors the data locally (in a gpg-encrypeted cache).
Re:Evaluation of five password managers

I use 1Password via the CLI (https://support.1password.com/command-line/) on Linux (well -- FreeBSD) Desktop all the time. I wrote a wrapper for the CLI (https://github.com/dcreemer/1pass) to make it a bit more ergonomic to use with things like FZF.
I used to use "pass" like others here, but did not like the Android experience.
*edited to add: and we use the 1Password team account at my day job -- and are satisfied customers. I'm sure other products work well too -- just my one data point.

Re:Syncing and backing up personal data is still too hard
on Wednesday January 31, 2018 @03:22PM (#16277200)
true -- it's more complicated. However I wanted encrypted at rest documents (and that's hard with Dropbox), and I need backup - not just sync, so Dropbox can only provide half the solution.
There's an opportunity for someone here...

This isn’t high art, but perhaps it will be useful to others. Getting my family data reasonably well backed up and synchronized between our many devices was a harder problem that I expected it to be.

the beta cli is available now, though it's more of an API than CLI. [1]
I've written a simple wrapper [2] to make it easy to use.

Re:Unofficial guide to dotfiles on GitHub

I built wsup [1] so that I could keep my dotfiles in multiple independent git repos -- some public on github for sharing (e.g. my emacs config [2]), and some private. It works similarly to stow, but is written in bash.
Re:Dotfiles are your Digital Backpack

Like others, I wrote a tool to manage "layers" of configuration and personalization files (https://github.com/dcreemer/wsup). "wsup" lets me compose various work configurations, personal dotfiles (https://github.com/dcreemer/dotfiles), dot-emacs files (https://github.com/dcreemer/dotemacs) and others from multiple git repositories.
The project was born from my need to manage multiple changing personal and work environments. Now I can go from zero to full environment with a couple of commands.

I've looked, but cannot find a way to hide my email for app purchases through the Play store. There doesn't seem to be anything in either the Play store settings of the Wallet settings. Do you know if this feature still exists?
