Re:AWS Data Transfer Price Reduction on Friday December 05, 2014 @04:21AM (#8703567)
Strong incentive to dive in to CloudFront CDN it seems. Transfer from AWS to CloudFront 'edge' caches is now free, and outgoing from CloudFront to the internet is nearly 30% cheaper all of a sudden.

I don't find it aggressive, it seems more like Dutch directness to me. As an inhabitant of a neighbouring country, I must say it's an acquired taste ;)

This is really neat! Congratulations to Ben for another great feature.

I don't know if it's coincidence, or maybe personal bias, but since going Open Source the pace of improvements to Feedbin has really picked up.

I subscribe to a metric ton of travel-hacking blogs, gathering all the discounts, promotions,... and now I can finally filter out all the loyalty programs I don't use. Super handy.

Re:Foursquare dataset free to download and analyze on Tuesday October 08, 2013 @07:31AM (#6514119)
Could anyone recommend some solid introductory material on data analysis/data visualisation?

I'm thinking this data set seems like a fun way to fill a rainy weekend, going for a dive into these worlds :)

AFAIK, to activate full screen mode using a keyboard shortcut for any app using the Lion-flavored full screen, you'll need to create a shortcut yourself :( http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/10/full-screen-keyboard-shortcut...
Re:Coders choosing Mac OS over Linux environment on Tuesday August 09, 2011 @04:39PM (#2865510)
Not right now, but soon (in a few weeks - months) there will be a whole avalanche of laptops coming out based on Intel's Ultrabook platform; very much 'inspired' by the MacBook Air.
I don't really want it per se, but isn't this quite similar to pixelpipe? Since that service already exists since 2007 or so and they recently (April) raised some $2.3M, there must be quite some people who _do_ want it.
You've got to be kidding! Think about it, Clippy wasn't really all that bad; he was always there for you, giving handy tips & tricks. But most of all, his funny animations provided a ray of light when you needed it most - when any of the above applications had driven you mad once _again_.

Related: Rosy retrospection http://http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosy_retrospection

My top 5:

1) Poor separation between content and presentation

2) Way too many features enabled by default.

3) Bulleted lists don't always indent in predictable fashion, which is annoying

4) When cooperating with a few people things go really bad, really quick (track changes, I'm looking at you). For example: header styles start to change, lists of tables start randomly missing items, references start failing,..

5) Numerous other layout issues that slowly drive you mad each time you have to use word

"PowerPoint is by far the worst app in the Microsoft Office suite"

Really? I nominate MS Word for that title. Maybe we should hold a poll :)

Reminded me of the recently announced Free Wifi at Brussels Airport (Belgium), "Open every Fri and Sat from 6 am till 8 pm"

Re:DuckDuckGo: Escape your search engine filter bubble on Monday June 20, 2011 @09:18AM (#2673997)
In all seriousness, this is actually my main use case for the private browsing mode in chrome: to search google without the filter bubble(1)

It's quite shocking to see just how much those results differ from the ones I'm usually served, actually.

I know it's actually supposed to be 'awesome' to have every search tailored to _you_, but it just makes me feel uncomfortable that I'm not seeing the internet "the way it's supposed to be seen" - if that makes any sense.

(1): Or at least a smaller bubble, considering it still knows my location - even though i use google.com, my os, my browser, etc...

Re:Is tmux the GNU Screen killer? on Monday June 20, 2011 @09:10AM (#2673970)
Still, you have to admit, the iPhone is working pretty well as a Nokia killer ;)
Hey everyone, I have a semi-related question (since it's briefly mentioned in the article): is it possible to make a decent salary exclusively by doing freelance work through vWorker (rentacoder) and the likes?
Re:Ask HN: Who's Hiring? (February 2011 Edition) on Monday January 31, 2011 @11:16AM (#2161987)

Re:John's Phone: a minimalist cell phone on Thursday January 27, 2011 @06:22AM (#2147419)
Am I the only one thinking that the screen is on the wrong side and this is a very poor choice UX-wise?
I second the full RSS feed request
Probably the site's author sees it from the PoV that it's just too expensive in the US. Other systems offer the same level of health care, at a far lower cost to the patient.

Or... you can just link up facebook with your old Yahoo mail address.(the one from the 90s you still keep around and check every 6 months or so ;)

This lets you import your facebook contacts in your yahoo address book, so you can export them as csv later.
