I use and pay for the professional review site https://www.which.co.uk/

They are a charity funded by subscribing consumers. They don't get paid by the sellers so the incentive structure benefits the consumer. I trust what they write.

The official pdf for the paper is at https://arxiv.org/pdf/2412.06769

I can find "Coconut" 54 times in the PDF. The movie does not look made up.

Your altitudes for satellites are too high. Low earth orbit is defined as being below 2000km and very low orbit as being below 450 km. Starlink is at about 550km. Sources: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low_Earth_orbit https://ts2.space/en/what-is-the-altitude-at-which-starlink-...

This might be a wording issue but how can a currency lose more than 100% of its value?
As a UK customer, I use Monzo bank and have pretty consistently had good experiences. They are a new bank. Recieving international money transfers was the only bit that they didn't support.

Re:Amazon Fake Reviews Scam Exposed in Data Breach on Friday May 07, 2021 @01:02PM (#27078119)
I spent years worrying about misleading descriptions and fake reviews. I then bought a subscription to which.co.uk and have been a happy customer since. They review a wide variety of products and they are a non-profit registered as a charity in the UK. They are mainly funded by consumer subscriptions so conflicts of interest are avoided.

Flask was originally an April fools joke with what the author thought was a silly design. It is now widely used, including in production systems at my company.

Re:Ask HN: Team fun event ideas during WFH? on Tuesday February 09, 2021 @06:06PM (#26083718)
I personally bought all my team members a beer delivered to their houses. One guy didn't like beer and got whiskey instead. On Friday at 4pm we all had a casual chat about non work topics and drank together. That seemed to go down well.
I think you mean above 80 degrees Celsius
Re:Tibor Gánti's ideas about the origins of life on Tuesday December 22, 2020 @03:33PM (#25510882)
I haven't seen that research but I find the idea fascinating. Where can I read more about this?
From the article: "Moderna's vaccine appears to be easier to store as it remains stable at minus 20C for up to six months and can be kept in a standard fridge for up to a month."
I believe the 1918 flu also had the unusual property of killing people in their 20s at a higher rate than the middle aged and old. https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/12/1/05-0979-f3

If you write an article and post it here I will read it.
I live in the UK and also recommend Monzo. They have a good app but the thing that stood out most to me was the correct use of emoji in their terms and conditions. It is definitely a modern bank.
Every time rust is mentioned on HN people talk about how wonderful rust is. They are jokingly called the rust evangelism strike force.

I agree with your comment about System 2 like reasoning not being common right now. I am not an expert in the field but the closest thing I have seen to learned planning is: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1911.08265.pdf

Re:Uncensorable Wikipedia on IPFS on Monday May 08, 2017 @03:24PM (#14294732)
In IPFS the user's computer connects to whatever node has the content, popular or not. This means that even if the the 100 most popular nodes in the world have enough pressure put on them that they refuse to host a file, I can still host the file on my laptop and everyone with an internet connection will be able to access it.
