Re:Open-source self-driving for 325 car models from 27 brands on Saturday January 24, 2026 @03:31AM (#46741984)
You're not wrong. Read his profile.

I used to joke about how I used LinkedIn as a dating site, but in the current year this just isn't that funny anymore. The professional managerial class I was mocking is quickly losing its grasp on power, so it's unclear if I'm still punching up.

How many of the messages here even come from real people anymore? How many of those people have pronouns in their bio? Are they GPT/GPT?

We have a big task ahead of us to define what the "new business" looks like. Comparatively, the revolution is the easy part.
Re:LeafletJS: a JavaScript library for interactive maps on Tuesday August 17, 2021 @06:52AM (#28208445)
Right, leaflet can be used also outside the map context. We used it to reimplement a "Pick Your Own Seat" component (originally implemented in flash), where the user picks its own seats while buying tickets!
can you tell us the scale you're talking about? getting good enough results with ~1 billion rows
Love it! But the cdn serving the images is improperly configured. The browser hits the cdn each time you go back and forth, downloading the images (multiple megabytes each) every time.

Likely the `expires` header is the problem (it's a date in the past)

Re:Stripe Identity on Monday June 14, 2021 @12:16PM (#27504425)
Many other countries in Europe can do it as well.

The electronic identity cards of Austria, Belgium, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Portugal and Spain all have a digital signature application which, upon activation, enables the bearer to authenticate the card using their confidential PIN. Consequently they can, at least theoretically, authenticate documents to satisfy any third party that the document's not been altered after being digitally signed. This application uses a registered certificate in conjunction with public/private key pairs so these enhanced cards do not necessarily have to participate in online transactions.

Not necessarily. you could use their ad network or just use your instagram account like anyone does posting images\stories
Re:Making Vaccine on Friday February 05, 2021 @04:10PM (#26041248)
I think he was referring generically to any bad crafted vaccine. Not the one approved by authorities. Indeed any improvised drug can be harmful.
I think the difference in wages narrows down with specializations. I linked just the "general practitioner" because I couldn't find an average including all the specializations.
right, I think I messed up with the reply while I was reading other comments.
Right! the keyword here is "Reproducible Builds". Basically once there is documentation about how to produce the release build, you can do it yourself and compare the resulting hash with the build distributed in the Store. Generally speaking it does no come for free, but once you find a way (e.g. for iOS compiling with a specific Xcode version in a specific OS with some adjusted config) is kind of doable (except that Apple encrypts your build server side for DRM purposes, so you'll need a jailbroken phone to do something about it)

For Signal there is an open issue here for iOS [1] and some documentation for Android [2]

Some nice work about it has already be done by telegram https://core.telegram.org/reproducible-builds

Looks like we're talking a study when N=1, I would wait a little bit more before drawing conclusions.
Re:Load testing is hard and the tools are not great on Tuesday January 05, 2021 @08:18AM (#25645168)
I do agree. More importantly, it has an architecture to scale (despite of being just python).

I created complex load tests and custom workflows to analyse resulting data thanks to its complete scriptability. Really a nice tool.

Re:PHP 8 on Thursday November 26, 2020 @11:51AM (#25221550)
Mostly because only cpu-intensive code greatly benefits from JIT. Serving a blog (like the demo) is not much cpu-intensive.
Re:Facebook account banned after linking Oculus account on Thursday October 15, 2020 @02:51AM (#24785638)
I had the same problem. Created new fb account, linked to Oculus, bought couple of things, got banned. Asked for review, solved within 2 working days. Not even my real name.

Good thing, it's a "soft" ban. They do not allow to log in, but if you are logged in, it's fine. So i could use my bought items even though I could not log in in browser. But if I would have logged out from Oculus, I wouldn't be able to use them.

Re:How to Speak (2018) [video] on Monday April 13, 2020 @09:15AM (#22855531)
The fact that he compared his sport skills (in that case skiing) with an olympionic sport skills. That in my mind sounded like: "Well, she clearly had talent & potential, but he got the Knowledge for skiing, thus was better in that moment"
Re:How to Speak (2018) [video] on Sunday April 12, 2020 @01:41PM (#22849779)
I'm not american, never heard of Mary Lou Retton, still I understood the concept by his explanation, and loved his anecdote that was 100% clear even for me that never heard of that person.
Source is Ministry of Health, data is collected by each Region. Specifically this is the free icu rate per region https://infogram.com/tasso-di-occupazione-posti-letto-1h7k23...

Unfortunately it's live without the per-day history, but you should consider that we're at the peak right now.

Considering the many people downvoting I feel like US news suggest otherwise. Weird!

In Italy you see 10% mortality because Italy tests only (really) sick people. It's really likely that millions of italians have covid. This is not really demonstrable at the moment, but still https://www.wantedinrome.com/news/coronavirus-report-six-mil...

Italy is treating every single patient with high standard healthcare. They did not reach the "0 free ICUs" moment yet.

What we can say as of today is that the high number of deaths do not depend on overwhelmed hospitals, but likely just because there are A LOT of covid patients. Also a greater average age and the fact that older people are much more integrated in the society played a role affecting mortality, but still those are only theories and we can't say how much they affected the total.

Re:China: Leaked files show 20x more cases [video] on Tuesday March 24, 2020 @06:28AM (#22673552)
True, but the video is stating that on specific days China reported wrong numbers of positive cases on purpose. Still we need to verify the source of the leaked document
As of today it's mostly a fake news. The question "are people dying for lack of ICUs?" is asked each day by journalists during the update from Head of the Civil Protection and the answer up to today is "still not". North Italy (in particular Lombardia) is approaching the limit of available ICUs every day. New ICUs are activated every day and there are daily transfers of patients under ICU from Lombardia to other regions (that still don't suffer from much traffic). Still we can't exclude to hit such limit in a few days. It's true that once that limit will be hit there are official guidelines in place that say to give ICU to people with better life expectancy.

If you are interested to see how much Lombardia is hit compared to other regions, take a look here http://opendatadpc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/opsdashboard/index.h...

What do you recommend to read to understand better market index funds?
Re:Stripe is down on Monday November 06, 2017 @12:56PM (#15637257)
Likely the corporate website availability is not related in any way to the API availability (different servers)
Re:“Adobe Flash Player is required for interactive charts” on Wednesday September 27, 2017 @06:47AM (#15346468)
Really the title should be "Adobe Flash Player is required for finance.google.com interactive charts until they port it to html5"
Re:Announcing Ionic 2 Final on Wednesday January 25, 2017 @01:45PM (#13484503)
that is what we do in our organization, we don't see value on their cloud services, we see value on their framework
Re:A new type of book on Sunday February 02, 2014 @05:21AM (#7165565)
I can't see how the fact that other players can modify my story with their decision could be somehow more fun that a pre-scripted story. I mean, yes, it sounds somehow fascinating, but it doesn't really impact the fun on the game. And what about the tradeoff with the quality of the story? You can "easily" make 1 epic\awesome story, you can't do that with hundreds of forks.
Re:Date parsing performance on iOS (NSDateformatter vs sqlite) on Saturday September 07, 2013 @10:07AM (#6345107)
mmm.....can I see the code about NSDateFormatter? because I feel like you're using it wrong. You need to cache somewhere the NSDateFormatter allocation (it is really expensive), reusing the same instance to convert the string to NSDate*.
