Hahaha I did this with AI last week. It’s confirmed. We have AGI!
Re:My server is a phone now on Sunday August 09, 2026 @04:50PM (#49235728)
Crazy timing. I did the same thing last week!

I have an old oneplus 6 and all I did was plug it into my computer and told Claude what I want and it just worked.

I even told it to make sure the battery doesn’t charge above 80% to not fry the battery and it couldn’t find the setting so wrote something to make it work.

I feel like this whole thing would have taken a weekend pre AI - instead I did it on a whim and spent about 5 minutes on it and it took less than 2 hours of wall clock time.

Re:Never fail a technical interview again on Saturday December 07, 2024 @03:07PM (#42352475)
Unfortunately real life problems involve a lot of context and introducing that to interviews is hard. It either requires a long conversation where someone might lose track, or involve writing a large ish code base and getting them to work on that (which is a lot of work, and once again they don’t have context).

In my experience if a problem simple enough to be completed in an hour, it’s simple enough for AI.

I’d be curious how old this rule is - because a lot of other goods have really dropped in price.

Food costs for a household were closer to 30% if income and now that’s dropped to 10%. Clothing and technology has taken a similar path.

Re:Notes on rarely-seen game mechanics on Tuesday May 16, 2023 @05:11PM (#35967812)
My partners family plays a version of Canasta where you start dealing by picking up all the cards you think you’ll need to deal and if you picked it perfectly you get another 100 points.

It’s a great addition to the game and makes it a positive to be the dealer.

Re:De-Stressing Booking.com on Sunday April 16, 2023 @05:23PM (#35594409)
I’m very jealous of your experience.

On booking.com I booked a place with a lockbox and it didn’t have all the required keys on it.

Multiple phone calls gave me no help and I found a way to effectively break into the building and I just did that every day for the rest of my stay

Re:Show HN: Noya – A new kind of design tool on Saturday February 18, 2023 @07:06PM (#34852549)
If you like watching design happen you should give the Relume Design League a watch on YouTube. Top designers get 30 minutes to design a website. https://www.youtube.com/live/-78khPk3Lpk?feature=share

Disclaimer: I work at Relume

Thanks for sharing! I’ve been looking at trying cheaper models but have been scared about quality. Definitely more tempted to try these now!
Very excited to see increased competition here!

I'm very interested in the UX decisions they make here. Is it just going to be ChatGPT with a Bing logo or will it be able to intelligently decide when a search engine is better? Will it give results in natural language?

If they sometimes do normal search instead at least that answers how they'll make money

Re:The 5% Rule on Monday January 02, 2023 @08:33AM (#34217640)
It’s possible but I’ve talked to friends who work at gyms and various other sport related areas and they all agree.

Sample size is very small still.

Re:The 5% Rule on Saturday December 31, 2022 @08:05PM (#34202494)
When I was younger I worked at a local supermarket and later at a sports store - turns out customers at the sports store were almost exclusively nice.

Not a huge sample size as I only worked at the one store but from talking to others seems like the number of degenerates is waaaay lower when people play sports

Some smaller companies are doing cool things with esports https://youtu.be/RkrWz7G-blY?t=841

Awesome game! Not sure what everyone else is saying - I found it easy to understand and it works fine on iPhone
Re:Ask HN: Which software do you use for your presentations? on Tuesday September 06, 2022 @04:02AM (#32734289)
Canva is the best solution for higher quality presentations. The templates make everything you do look professional and it's really easy to use.
Re:Ask HN: How would you monetise this site? on Thursday August 04, 2022 @05:52PM (#32348766)
Don’t overthink it at first. Just slap a Google Adsense banner on it and build on it from there. Often traffic spikes like this aren’t long lived.
I personally like going quite in depth into esoteric topics

- car aerodynamics -> https://www.youtube.com/c/KYLEDRIVES

- rockets and space travel -> https://www.youtube.com/c/EverydayAstronaut

- geopolitics -> https://www.youtube.com/c/CaspianReport

- random subjects but always interesting -> https://www.youtube.com/c/PolyMatter

I’ve been working very closely with one over the past few months and the biggest improvement is clearly defining terms and making sure we always stick to them

We realised we were using the word design for like 4 different things and often two or more interpretations were valid

I would pay for this
Far out - after 20 minutes I'm giving up. Please add an easy mode
Re:Ask HN: What game do you wish existed? on Wednesday May 25, 2022 @05:45PM (#31511022)
My girlfriend and I like puzzle games and would strongly recommend “ibb and obb” and “death squared”

This really grabbed my attention - I fear big tech is pushing American morals down the throat of the rest of the world. This is great that they’re noticing this and trying to correct for it!
