News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Father of 3 here; 1 year, 4 years and a 7 year old. I was also nervous about first kid, I only have few things. Every kid is different, but there are always some generic things to say.

Relax, kids mirror your emotions and can feel if you stress. Even if you are up mid night and are stress about sleep. Just take it easy. Kids don't do it to be mean. They don't have those kind of thoughts.

Kids are simple. They want affection, food and sleep. But they can't get any of it on their own. To begin with, they barely even know if they have feet and hands. So it's your job to help em out.

Babies can be crying or complaining for many reasons; Maybe something is itchy, they are hungry or need to poop. So relax, it's not always something bad. Give them some love, check their diaper, keep tabs on the time since last feed.

First time is always bad. First couple of weeks is just stress. You need to get into a new rytm, but it gets much much better after 2-3 months, where their stomach settles in, they settle in and you can start to enjoy it much more.

Re:A beginner's guide to intermittent fasting (2012) on Thursday March 10, 2022 @09:07AM (#30627013)
And that is what I did. Sorry if it was unclear. You can still overeat in one sitting. It all depends what you eat, it's just tougher with one meal.
Re:A beginner's guide to intermittent fasting (2012) on Thursday March 10, 2022 @07:49AM (#30626306)
It's great way to lose weight if you can keep yourself from overeating when your feeding window opens. It's the same result as calorie restriction.

I like stuffing my face instead of eating smaller portions. So I decided to go down to 1 meal a day doing 20/4; I lost around 48 pounds in 3 months.

3 years old .. hmn
Re:GitHub's new text editor leaked on Twitter on Wednesday February 26, 2014 @07:53AM (#7304609)
Same I use it every day ... perfect plugin :)
Re:New Sublime Package Control Site on Saturday August 10, 2013 @05:38AM (#6190547)
Some feedback on the plugin some of the commands won't work on none US keyboards. The scandinavia keyboard uses shift + : to make ;

and that kinda fucks it up when your shortcuts are: cmd-; cmd-shift-;

I know you can remap in your plugin. Which is great. But this is just a small not to let you (and hopefully other plugin developers) know that this is an issue they should be aware of.

Up-boat and comment for later reading and look thru.

I like your idea and I hope it's okay if I borrow some of your concepts for a future idea of mine ?

Re:Show HN: Super simple static blog generator, Benjen on Tuesday March 19, 2013 @05:28AM (#5399777)
I have mixed feelings about static site generators on one hand i really like the geeky approach where you make everything yourself and build it all from scratch and you fiddle around in the terminal ... on the other hand im really lazy and just want to push a button and it just runs.

And I think that is why I love the idea and concept of Kirby. It's PHP yes, but I this case I don't really think that, that is a bad idea. I wan't my blog to be easy and cheap to host. And a PHP hotel is easy and cheap. With Kirby you build your site and upload it to some random host and it just runs. No need to setup S3 or Github commit and push.

So thumbs up to Kirby, it suites my lazy habits.

Re:Why Are Lego Sets Expensive? on Friday January 11, 2013 @07:36AM (#5042390)
Coming from Billund (where LEGO is made and invented) ... having friends and parents who worked +25 years at LEGO. My dad having worked both with construction and design of the plastic molds for all those years. I can say that the only reason LEGO is more expensive, is because its a high quality product made in Europe (mostly Denmark) and not in China.
