I don't buy that argument.

I would pay for an Ubuntu that runs flawlessly and supports more software.

1.) We only introduce you to Investors if you told us that you want to be introduced to investors. That's the first layer.

2.) We will prefer people who have mutual friends, many friends and live nearby.

3.) We are thinking about a curation/application feature where people get a score or are voted about to become introduced.

4.) We can't protect you from spam 100%

Re:Ask HN: Review my startup, intro.getletsapp.com on Tuesday July 24, 2012 @09:49AM (#4285650)
We could give you a number of introductions/matches for free and if you want more, like 20 introductions to iPhone developers you would have to pay for it.

Ask HN: Review my startup, intro.getletsapp.com

Hey guys, I have a new startup idea:http://intro.getletsapp.com/In short, it works like that: You get introduced to relevant new business contacts based on your profile, interests and location through our matching algorithm. The algorithm is based on what you are (startup founder, marketing expert, investor, etc) and what kind of persons you want to connect with in your area (like investors,...

Very nice

Very good points.

So far we haven't found something promising in the meetup space. We'll probably pivot somewhere else.

We haven't found a niche that may be suited better. We'll likely pivot to something else.

Yeah, maybe we'll apply for the next YC class.

I wrote about our failed idea in another comment

A few months when it was just a little side project and then 6 weeks fulltime. We only burnt 6 weeks of salaries.

Re:We have a funded startup but no product on Thursday July 05, 2012 @12:27PM (#4203668)
We thought about that. We wanted to make people define a minimum number of attendees. But that's more of a feature, not a product.

Meet with VCs, Business Angels, Founders, etc. for some months regularly and keep them updated about your startup, maybe work with them on a project, do some freelancing for them or become an employee at their company. Then they get to know you and your skills. Then pitch them an idea that gets them exicted that they themselves can understand. Something in their space.
Re:We have a funded startup but no product on Thursday July 05, 2012 @11:48AM (#4203531)
We wanted to make spontaneous meetups happen. However, our real world is not made for spontaneous meetups. You have to spam about 70 people to find some people to meet spontaneously. And if you only have 10 friends near you, chances are not good that a spontaneous meetup will happen.

We have a funded startup but no product

We had to kill our original startup idea. Now we have 60K left, we are two founders (Developer & Business) and we have an outstanding advisory/angel board. But we are kind of bummed. It's crazy. And funny. And sad. But we don't know what we should build now.You come up with tons of startup ideas while you're in school, college or working at a company. But when you have to come up with...

Re:Weird. Distributing startup job offers via email on Sunday September 18, 2011 @03:24PM (#3011026)
One more thing. Maybe we shouldn't focus on job seekers. Who else is there to focus on? Answer: People who have a job but want to have a better job. These people don't spend their time browsing job sites because they don't desperately need a job. But they may subscribe to our service because it requires no additional time.
Re:Weird. Distributing startup job offers via email on Sunday September 18, 2011 @03:05PM (#3010982)
Oh I didn't actually answer your question in my last post. At first we have to get our hands dirty to get the seekers to sign up for the list. Talk to people directly, ask for feedback in developer message boards etc. But if they like the convenience of the service it hopefully spreads.
Re:Weird. Distributing startup job offers via email on Sunday September 18, 2011 @02:55PM (#3010954)
Ours is a different approach that has some advantages and some drawbacks. As a job seeker, all you have to do is join the list and then you will get offers automatically. It's literally no work. But we don't know if it's gonna work. Depends much on your feedback.

Weird. Distributing startup job offers via email

Would you like this: A weekly newsletter with job offers from awesome startup companies. We think about setting up such a service. We will cover job offers from around the globe. If you provide your favorite work location we can prioritize offers near you and personalize your weekly email. The service will be 100% free and we won't share any private data publicly.I would love to hear some feedback...
