The “raw” data in so-called “raw” image formats in not unprocessed data from the image sensor. The camera will already have done processing on the data, it’s just not fully processed.

If it was indeed raw data off the sensor, you’d see all kinds of “bad” things such as dead pixels. And camera vendors (obviously?) don’t want you to see that.

Re:A taste of CoreData – A graph framework on Tuesday February 20, 2018 @08:20AM (#16420066)
Well, that’s a common misconception, but far from the truth. If you actually care about performance, you’ll soon find out that performance wrt. database work is all about high-level optimizations: You want to reduce the times you hit the database (both reads and particularly writes).

And once you’re getting into that busyness, Core Data will allow you to create way faster coder in less time. Core Data will get you 10x the performance for 10x less effort.

You can use swiftc (the Swift compiler) without Xcode just like you can use clang without Xcode. Xcode is just an IDE.

You don't need to have home brew. And most of this can be done a lot simpler: https://gist.github.com/danieleggert/b029d44d4a54b328c0bac65...

Here's a similar write up I did about Mach-O (iOS / OS X): https://www.objc.io/issues/6-build-tools/mach-o-executables/
Another Janus Friis company to add to the list.

You're worried about security, but you install homebrew?!?
Re:Applebot, the web crawler for Apple on Wednesday May 06, 2015 @10:06AM (#9498682)
Apple trying to get do what Google does faster, than Google doing what Apple does.

In other words: Both Apple and Google in the mobile OS and device space. Both Apple and Google in the (mobile) search space.

On OS X 10.10 there are no WiFi credentials in the EFI boot variables.

Re:How Your Camera Works on Wednesday February 11, 2015 @01:32PM (#9034564)
Thanks for the feedback. The reason I picked this title is simply because "your camera" for most people will be their smartphone. A bit too catchy for people with a DSLR.

But as other people have noted: Most photos today are taken with smartphones. I touch upon aperture, and linked to Wikipedia for those interested in in-depth information.
