And how do you objectively come to this conclusion? Could you say a human prisoner can learn to cope in a prison and present "psychologically" well, but it still feel like a form of torture?

Instead of reinforcing the fuselage, I wonder if just having a 1/4 nacelle that shields the passenger side would work.
Re:Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025) on Sunday June 29, 2025 @11:15PM (#44418947)
Building an RPG-like skill tree but for real life.
Re:Phlex for Rails Emails: Action Mailer Without ERB on Monday March 03, 2025 @02:33PM (#43245735)
I really loved using slim and only recently abandoned it because the benefits for using Cursor to code were so good.

Slim made views way easier to look at, understand, and code. I personally gained a lot of efficiency working with it.

Whether solid or liquid blankets, these guys seem clueless. How about the neutron shield? Gonna breed tritium as well? How long do they suspect reactor components can last w/o all the heat and neutron radiation?

Looks like the site is down. : (
Re:YC is doing a first ever Fall 24 batch on Tuesday August 06, 2024 @07:21PM (#41176577)
Yes, I'm also interested. Will have a new baby, so while I'd like to do in-person, it wouldn't be feasible for the new few (or more?) batches. Though I still plan on grinding either way.
Re:Rotation curves: still flat after a million light-years on Thursday June 20, 2024 @12:02PM (#40740232)
Are you aware of any visuals that show what the density distribution of DM looks like to fix the expected the rotation curves for some example galaxies?
Re:Stereogram Tutorial (2020) on Wednesday May 08, 2024 @05:32PM (#40302896)
This can be practiced! I was super into stereograms years back and have decent control now (not intentionally but happened naturally). Can slightly diverge to see smaller/far-away images or maximally diverge for the bigger/close-up images.

Re:Network visualization of 50k blogs and links on Tuesday April 23, 2024 @04:20PM (#40136794)
Very neat! So you wrote the graph visualization UI? I see in prior project you used cytoscape - any motivation for doing it yourself this time (vs one of the available libraries)?
Re:Why are bidets just now getting popular in America? on Sunday March 24, 2024 @03:30PM (#39809634)
You don't need warm water / electricity - you get completely used to the water temp after using a week or so. The bidets on Amazon (pretty cheap) work just fine and install onto most toilets in 10 minutes. Super easy and affordable.
Re:Airfoil on Wednesday February 28, 2024 @01:14AM (#39534658)
There is no lift on a sphere or cylinder without rotation dude. The whole point of parent post is that the "proper" discussion does not inlay a good intuitive understanding of lift, which in my opinion, should start with "push air down to go up".
Re:Airfoil on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @03:26PM (#39529371)
Yea, I agree and try to explain it this way to friends. Airfoils help, but it's ultimately just the wing pushing air down and why planes can fly upside down.

FWIW, aerospace engineering degree, used xFoil, did tons of fluid sims, etc.

Sync between devices (windows <> mac <> iphone) is the only thing more I'd want out of this. Great work!

I think the target market is huge. My wife, for example, spends tons of time writing out stuff for Instagram posts, some quite long. And I see tons more across social media that is largely done on people's phones.

Yes, huge for fusion and would allow tokamak miniaturization too.
Re:Why Do Cats Knead? on Friday June 09, 2023 @02:31PM (#36262060)
I'll hold my cat like a baby, and she'll knead in the air. Or when getting pet lying on her side. I think it's a happy state thing for her.
Re:Apollo will close down on June 30th on Thursday June 08, 2023 @05:23PM (#36249312)
I think, for one, it is important to note that Christian doesn't say "go quiet". He said "quiet down", and those carry different interpretable implications regardless of context (the latter having much less potential implied threat imo).

Second, listening to the actual audio, it doesn't sound like a threat at all, and it all cleared up right away.

> effectively impossible

Maybe if you are alone, but you could easily get spotted for a bench press and put low effort into raising the bar each rep.

Re:Next Stop for Waymo One: Los Angeles on Wednesday October 19, 2022 @07:47PM (#33269228)
Yea, that's a fair point. Though I'd still be upset if I'm waiting in a line of Waymos turning left that go once per light change when I'm not in a self-driving car.
Re:Next Stop for Waymo One: Los Angeles on Wednesday October 19, 2022 @06:22PM (#33268597)
They mention unprotected left turns. I'm really curious how this will be handled in LA because there are a lot, and if you aren't at least a little aggressive, you will miss lights constantly. And some lights are miserable if the cars turning left in front of you are passive, and only one makes it through per light change.
Awesome to hear that RL for plasma confinement could work for fusion progress.
Awesome pain point yall fixing here. Do any of these firms provide actual, document APIs intended for external use?

I'd happily drop my current brokerages and switch to a consumer-friendly brokerage that supported this.

Re:Making the dislike count private across YouTube on Wednesday November 10, 2021 @05:14PM (#29181665)
In response to their reasoning, why not instead hide dislikes only for smaller creators then? Once you reach a certain threshold of views/subscribers, it becomes visible again.

STOP using secure texts for passwords by default
