I'm a general class ham and developer and I've been wanting to learn CW for years. A few years ago I started working on a morse game and I got the main game loop down but just never really found the time to flesh it out into a fully featured game. When Claude Code came out I decided it was the perfect test case for me to learn CC.Morse Command is the result of that joint effort. What I really...
Started a business with my wife as well. It grew successfully and we still got divorced and now we still work together. Thankfully we managed it beautifully but it was definitely the hardest thing I've ever done emotionally. Worth it in the end, we are both much happier and the business continues to grow!
Some cars and trucks from the last 40 years were built incredibly well and when a specific vehicle was maintained well and not abused can provide very good options vs new super tech heavy vehicles. I have a Ford OBS truck from the 90s and I adore it. The only thing automatic on it is the transmission. Manual everything including windows. Considering a 2016 AMG GT as my next purchase for the same reason (different scale obviously). Just remove the GPS / cellular antenna and its pretty disconnected.
The venn diagram of 'homeschooled' and 'goes to church regularly' is not quite a circle but its not far off. Moderate to large churches also provide a great deal of socialization in this same way. Cross-socio-economic, racial, and other bases, all with a shared value system that creates a localized high trust environment that affords a greater degree of freedom for child autonomy.
I wonder how much is intentional as a painless / possibly even "pleasant" way to end things on their own terms. Its cheap, incredibly effecient, and leaves a better narrative than the more common alternatives.
If they make the firmware there's no guarantee they aren't still doing it just without a broadcast SSID going along with it.
My gf and I are the stereotypical software nerd meets astrology girlie (but doesn't take it too far). She likes to do rituals every so often and I've found that it does create a moment of reflection that you can use however you like. The last time we were camping she told me she wanted to do one so I bought some of that fire color changing powder (mostly just fine metal shavings of various types) and then glued a bit of that on some paper and made sort of a paper packet and then I had the whole group write on a packet something they wanted to let go of and then we all tossed them into the fire at the same time and the fire changed colors. It was pretty magical and I scored a lot of brownie points! So you could sprinkle some of that into your jar and just toss a handleful into the fire and watch the magic of your productivity ascend to the heavens. Or, you know, just watch physics at work.
Wouldn't you say that most multiplayer video games are their outlet for social engagement and even community involvement?
It takes a lot more tech staff to build a tech company than it does to run a tech company.
> If the pendulum can swing so broadly ever 4 years I'd better watch it, right?
Honest question: If, other than voting every 4 years, you have no ability to impact change, why spend the time watching it? Why not spend the time doing something more constructive that you have the ability to impact? (aside from prior to the election to inform voting, of course)
Incentives, the opportunity cost of time, and monogamous cultural influence, mostly.
Touching another person is widely considered an intimate act and most of the general mainstream today are only intimate (physically, or emotionally) with their romantic partner. Broadly speaking we've lost emotional intimacy with close friends and small groups that we've had in the past.
So with that, what is the incentive for the artist to create? He can't sell his work. He can't distribute his work. Touch-based art is highly dis-incentivized in our modern western culture.
When I first started down this path my first red flag appeared when I started asking poly people how long they'd been poly. The first 30 people I asked over a period of about 4 months, the longest anyone had been poly was 14 months. It wasn't until I got involved in a smaller alt-art community that I found a few old timers with more than 5 years under their belts, and all of them were solo poly (they live alone, unmarried, but date multiple people).
Don't attribute to reality what happens for engagement on a tiktok video. BlackRock, Fidelity, and about 10 others have all filed S1s with the SEC who continues to meet with them and ask for specific technical adjustments. It is highly unlikely they'd be asking for such highly specific changes if their plan was to issue a blanket denial. Their decision is due around January 10.
Accidents happen all the time for any number of products. As was linked earlier over 700 people die every year in the US from being tangled in their bed sheets. Banning something because its involved in an accident is rarely the correct move. Was it 'involved in' or was it the 'contributing cause of' are very different things.
From Investopedia: Capitalism is focused on the creation of wealth and ownership of capital and factors of production, whereas a free market system is focused on the exchange of wealth or goods and services.
It's not the free market part that defines it as capitalism but rather the fact he owns the method of production. He owns the code he writes and he owns the business processes around those applications. He privately owns the capital assets (applications and business processes) which make the money.
A private person who controls the production of his work and sells it in an open market economy is definitely capitalism.
'Brutal honesty' and 'not sugar coating the truth' are both lines used by emotionally immature people protecting their own values and ideals. Anything that needs to be said while being "brutally honest" can also be said honestly with compassion and empathy, but that takes a lot more self-awareness and emotional skill than just emotionally vomiting on someone else and calling it 'brutal honesty'.
Few issues highlight just how different the US is from most European countries as well as public transit. Intellectually we all know the US is huge but we don't have a conceptual model of just how crazy big it is in comparison to any European country.
I just moved out of a metro area to about 20 miles out of town and have been running these numbers. How you calculate time is something few people talk about but seems incredibly relevant to this calculation.
I'm an independent hourly consultant so my time has a literal dollar rate, but only if I would be working vs whatever activity is in question.
Assuming I 1: have work available I can contribute quality work to in the time allotted and 2: that I actually would be doing that work in this time slot are two things that rarely match up with when I'm doing personal activities that require transit. One obvious exception is going to or from a client site during the workweek, but with a phone hotspot I can start billing on the bus. Something I can't do driving.
If 1 and 2 above are not both true then my hourly rate is not at all my billed rate and is instead some subjective measure of value. I have yet to determine if that measure of value is best expressed in dollars. So far I'm beginning to think it isn't. Instead, reversed feels better. "Is it worth X dollars to not have to carry my groceries home on a bus?"
I took a queue from Seth Godin in his book 'This is Marketing' where he basically breaks it down to: People like me do things like this.
I adopted a certain baseline of living as part of my core identity. People like me keep the house clean always, and tidy mostly. People like me remove anything with an odor immediately (50% full trash but it smells? gotta go right now.)
Couple that with the 2 minute rule "if it takes less than 2 minutes do it right now" and it's really changed how I live.
You can drive whatever you want on private property. It's the 'going on the road' part that adds on the government oversight.
The iOS Weather app from Apple does tell you if its going to rain in the next hour. Even down to the minute and for how long.
That looks like a great addition to the overall design portfolio. Thanks for sharing! I was hoping for some AI to show me ideal (or at least a few good) layouts instead of me having to come up with them myself but at least this helps get the feel for them in 3D.
No, every one of those is the same as I mentioned. They are staging AI apps. None of them offer the ability I asked for, which is to change the layout of a house / set of rooms.
'use upwork to generate this' meaning just hire someone to do it for you?
Most of the apps I've found so far are just how to stage an existing room, not change the actual room layouts themselves as well.

I just bought a house that has a really weird layout. Previous owner had it split for a rental unit and I'm taking over the whole house. It needs a lot of work and I'm pretty handy when it comes to the work but not when it comes to know how to layout rooms / spaces and even less when it comes to design. I'm already looking for a professional interior designer but I'd also like to play with some...
Humans still need 'prompt engineering' to answer questions more accurately though.
* What's the best way to get to Radio Shack from here?
is not the same as
* What's the easiest way to get to Radio Shack from memory when riding a bicycle from here?
I'm not sure I follow. The mass extinction event is mostly due to habitat destruction AFAIK right? The reason for that is seeking new resources aka energy. You don't need to cut down the rainforest to plant low yield crops if you can more profitably grow higher yield crops vertically with grow lamps and powered watering systems.. no? 'Cheap energy' is very different from 'basically free energy' in terms of what you can do.
But don't tell them how much food or other preparations you have in detail. If you have to go a month without the ability to get new food you don't want the entire neighborhood at your door. Better to generally recommend how much food they should have and encourage them to get it themselves.
