Ask HN: Unbreakable Crypto How to Market

I was talking to this tech person today who was telling me about his unbreakable crypto technology. He was wondering how to market the idea as it didn't get any tracktion in the market.I was wondering if a social network type of approach where you offer an incentive (1000$) to break a technology, yet you have to pay 10$ to enter which get added to the amount offered. Is that something that...

Skrill security

I just did a password reset my password with Skrill and got an email that my account got accessed from a computer in Indonesia! This is really freaky - how can I trust Skrill now if it get access from other computer. I have just put a new 16+ digit/letters password which is unique to this account.Although I could change again my password, I don't have any trust in Skrill anymore because of this...

Ask HN: Rackspace email re-seller plan just added a minimum monthly fee

I started reselling rackspace email service a few months ago, and just now I got a bomb dropped in my email:As of November 1, 2017, your account will now have a $150.00 per month minimum commitment. This means that if the dollar value of the Cloud Office products that you are using is greater than your $150.00 per month minimum commitment, then there will be no change to the amount that you are...

For me it just sounds like a consumer generation smartening up - no napkin, hooters, beer and softeners... This is mostly waste anyway, our needs and consumption will change and the industry has to change with it.
As far as I've experienced working only with floss, none of my clients ever cared about what tools I was using. Not only that but I haven't found much community that share/support/talk about running a creative business on floss only. But now I have hone my skills and I can produce the same results for the market/product I am working with, and enjoy the stability and flexibility of linux.
Re:How to Get into VR on Thursday May 04, 2017 @12:27AM (#14262463)
Why are VR posts devoided of any talk about porn technology development. I think a huge market for VR will be the porn industry, and it seems quite untapped at this point.
I want my html css and js to live update. Only css and only sublime seems quite a limitation. Something like npm reload does a lot more.

Ask HN: When will the React trend fade away?

I'm surely not an expert coder, but I've work with the web since setting up BBS in the 90s. I've dabbled in react a few time only to find myself annoyed by it's complexity. I have a deep feeling that this type of framework is only a trend. It is changing the way we think about the web, and will surely inspire better way to code the web, but I feel the fad greatly surpass the usefulness of this...

Re:Foxconn Confirms Plans for U.S. Investment on Wednesday December 07, 2016 @05:06PM (#13126696)
I'm not clear about China/Japanese investment in the USA but doesn't that feel like the US is loosing it's edge and competitiveness. From an uninformed point of view it surely feels like China and Japan are actually in a position of control here more than ever?
That is for sure a needed design, and we've seen it in few sci fi. We are used to hear car and it's part of our safety system, EV vehicle will make a lot less noise and should definitly have recognizable sound.
Re:Ignite UI is now open source on Wednesday October 26, 2016 @02:08PM (#12798907)
Is this Fremium or crippleware? I'm getting tired of business raising the open source flag for only sharing a small part of their code and then writing:

"Big news for the web dev community! Ignite UI is now open source! "

I'm sorry but this is not big news and it's not really open source.

Re:Ask HN: Any minimal framework for small website? on Friday September 23, 2016 @10:39AM (#12564937)
That is what I am doing now, but I was wondering about boiler plate code, most site have menu, pages, contact form and some of these basic elements, at which point it feel redundant to re-create each time.

Ask HN: Any minimal framework for small website?

There is a lot of huge framework for big web projects, but there seems to be a need or a place for medium project. I've used Angular on some projects but it seems quite big complex and actually not needed for smaller sites. Ember.js is actually interesting even for smaller site, but still the complexity is a tad daunting.I've used a mix of handlesbar.js and json for the content, but often feel...

Re:Old Geek Jobs: fighting against ageism in the industry on Thursday September 15, 2016 @02:03PM (#12508343)
But don't ageism always happened to be reverse? I still roll my eyes when a early 20's try to sells me idea of marketing - and although you can have a lot of good ideas at that age, you still don't have life and work experience that is needed to go trough massive amount of stress or unknown situations. I think it's fine that kids who run new business don't want old folks in there. It's a bit of a return of the balance. If you're too old to get hired, how about starting a new business with other oldies?
The whole car pride is a thing of the past. It used to define who you were and prove your success. People are simply evolving and take the car for what it is, it's simply transportation and you shouldn't make a big deal out of it, nor you should go in massive debt for it. If the car industry wants to change, making better quality, cheaper car, less polluting and smaller or more intelligent, it might benefit them a lot.
Re:The New Cheating Economy on Monday September 05, 2016 @01:43AM (#12428364)
But on the other side of the medal, there are a lot of people who gets paid to study no? If I was a poor student I'd try to get hired in one of these business and start going to school while being paid.
Re:You’re How Old? We’ll Be in Touch on Monday September 05, 2016 @01:26AM (#12428312)
That's one side of the story - I think there is also an imbalance of old folks in higer ranking job, from politics to multinationals, no?
Re:Hosting My Static Site on Wednesday August 31, 2016 @08:01PM (#12402349)
Yes I'll definitely expand my cloudfront + s3 for my next projects - to see how that could help. The only + for shared hosting is that I offer free shared hosting email with any hosting for my clients. Email are getting to be an expensive commodities.
Re:Hosting My Static Site on Wednesday August 31, 2016 @06:30PM (#12401961)
for static site, can't you use any shared hosting and have 1000sites for 3$/month? Not sure I follow the logic behind the article.
As a web developer I feel sometime solution like that remove the understanding of how the internet works. This script can be replaced by a tiny shell script, that runs a rsync of the dev folder to your server, and I think it is important to know basic scripting like that even for a front end dev. I have to say that I haven't tried the script but I haven't seen anything impressive from the presentation video.
Re:How to reduce the number of ads in Gmail on Saturday April 19, 2014 @01:38AM (#7612693)
Well that's definitly an oxymoron, use your own mail server, or paid mail server, use imap for google, ose AdBlock, or just don't use free service if you don't want ads...
