IHMC has been working on various legged robots for a long time. Back in 201X, my sister team worked on a running robot inspired by Ostriches (while I was on the Exoskeleton). Looks like they are mostly focusing on humanoid and Exo now. http://robots.ihmc.us/fastrunner

Some stayed at home to take care of the kids. Others upleveled and went for jobs that pay better wages. A bunch of people died as well, I wonder of this affected the job market. I'd love to read a study on this specific topic.

They don’t store the ID.
Re:Introducing Age Verification on Saturday September 25, 2021 @03:05PM (#28655407)
Depending on the country, it can be due to local regulation. I don’t think it is required yet in the US E.g. AVMS in Europe. Youtube had to implement age verification.
I really enjoyed this SciFi book - Dark Matter: A Novel

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

What makes you think that? I’m past team matching, HC, and VP. I’d be so disappointed to make it so far and not get the offer...

I’m also stuck at the SVP approval since 8 days...
I read that the stimulus bill is offering a forgivable loan for small businesses if they don’t layoff. Basically taxpayers paying for employees salary. Let me see if I can find the source...

This could be one of many reasons.

[edit] here we go, forgivable loan of up to 10 million, based on the company payroll https://www.inc.com/kevin-j-ryan/inc-chamber-of-commerce-sma...

Re:Live: Who's Freezing Hiring from Coronavirus? on Saturday March 28, 2020 @12:23PM (#22712126)
Hi David, Thanks for doing that. As someone that was affected by the layoffs, this is really helpful.

Currently on the final round with Facebook, they mentioned that they hire L5 and above. E3 & E4 is on hold.

There is a reason to wash hands and avoid touching visage with dirty hands. Isn’t it? Touching mouth with contaminated hands = eating the virus.

I didn’t like the lady either, she’s was definitely doing it for the money.
Yes, it’s not new to manipulate people, the low cost for high efficiency is new. Clinton had almost 3M more votes than Trump. It would be much more expensive to manipulate 3M (1% us population, 1.2% voters), rather than 70k (0.02% pop, 0.028% voters). If winning the election is about properly manipulating 0.04% of the voters, that’s very scary and not working as initially designed.

Edit:math

It’s harder to manipulate millions of people rather than 70k.

You’re right, it was also used to get Obama elected. It’s still wrong.

Why aren't we talking about the Cambridge Analytica scandal example? Another issue of the Electoral colleges is that a candidate could target only a few amount of people (70k according to the documentary) for changing the course of the election. Even if this has been fixed by Facebook. Shouldn't it be considered as a major flaw of the election system?

Depends where you live. Spending $2k a month after rent in the bay area is common, especially if you are two. $800/month in groceries, $200 gas/person, 2-3 dates (or restaurants with friends), utilities ($200+), Insurances ($200+)...

There are a lots of benefits from using wisely these cards without overthinking.

Re:Ask HN: How to cope with job hunting and depression? on Tuesday February 26, 2019 @02:11AM (#19252537)
Stay strong, you have the will. Please seek help if you keep having these thoughts. You should be able to find free help on that matter.

Practicing sport keeps my mind focused and the negative thoughts away. I find it a great free anti depressant.

I subscribed to Indeed Prime, they offer free coaching (resume help, mock interviews...). With your background, you should be selected.

Have you got feedbacks from employers?

Did you apply to unemployment? Can you take a side job in the meantime (e.g. Uber)?

Don’t overload yourself and do a little everyday.

Interview Travel Expenses, Who Pays?

I was asked for an onsite interview (already passed two rounds), but they want me to advance the travel expenses (Flight + hotel, it's about $1K). There is a staffing agency in the middle and I don't trust them. I talked to the agency about this making me uncomfortable, and they still want me to book it. In the past, companies always took care of the logistics. I'm worried that they could...

“Disconnecting ego from the work was the first big lesson I had when I started working in software” This is so important in Design as well.

UX/Product Designers that are using photoshop or illustrator to deliver a full page designs are wasting everybody's time. They should learn Sketch, InVision Studio or XD.

Re:The designer who doesn't code on Thursday February 07, 2019 @08:45PM (#19110638)
Why don't you have design review and design sessions with the designer? This is the type of thing that we talk about on a daily basis (I used to code and now design). If the Dev or PM has a compelling argument, we negotiate, compromise or stop at each other desk.

I bet that the Ads is not his call but marketing :)

Maybe we will find a good way to gamify care home and incentivize the elderly (future us) to do our daily exercises and cognitive training
Re:Ask HN: Where am I going wrong? on Sunday February 03, 2019 @04:25PM (#19072319)
Would you mind developing a little bit? How would you sell the idea and get your customers first? I kind of get it, but it would be nice to have few examples.

Ironic considering that the Teslas are made in America. I don't understand the point of their "protest" (beside low cognitive functions). It's time to start towing.
