i associate W2 status with an increased likelihood of getting benefits and job security (yes, i know what at-will employment is).
Re:How elephants avoid cancer (2015) on Tuesday August 17, 2021 @11:36AM (#28211036)
Is there a big list of things a human can do, to reduce/minimize their risk of getting cancer? "dont smoke" is obvious but a lot of chemicals/behaviors are less well understood in terms of cancer risk.
I believe that specific form is called a limerick.
if you accidentally press enter, are you ok with the browser sending that information wherever it does?

she did some amazing work with zero-7.
I used this to convince my gf to replace her hideous fake tree decoration with a nice bowl for holding stuff instead. This might be the most useful HN post for me ever.
could you list some example technologies that exhibit these issues?
is there a good online collection of demoscene videos?

OK. And is there any basic foundation for starting, that enables one to understand Heidegger well? Some kind of primer for continental philosophy?
dont forget the automobile lobby fighting mass transit.
not sure how common horses are in africa, even before colonialization. garbage wasnt as plentiful back then either.
having garbage trucks that come reliably costs money and infrastructure that often isn't there.
"afterwork study" for work sounds like "work" to me.
to be fair, crypto purchases have a high incidence of chargeback fraud. this is expensive for banks.

Re:76% of American CEOs say they may shrink office space on Thursday October 22, 2020 @07:12PM (#24864328)
I'd love to hear your precise rationale on the financial side.
agreed but the article says that nonanimal sources are more expensive than sharks. so research isn't what's needed, but rather (arguably) things like state provided incentives.

i think op is more worried about his data's privacy than whether the app complies with facebook's TOS.
Re:Who to ignore – bullshit filters on Thursday August 20, 2020 @11:07AM (#24224055)
The huge header image led me to expect some commentary on COVID-19 coverage in the media, which indeed would have been interesting to read. But the article doesnt really talk about that issue in particular. Are we supposed to make some inference as readers? It's confusing.

edit: after looking at the headlines more closely, it seems that it's commentary on early media reports of coronavirus being no more deadly than the flu. Not sure if that is clear-cut bullshit, rather than just uninformed reporting... or maybe they're the same thing :)

How are you able to make more local friends in a less dense location?

what does a 4k screen do for productivity? i get the image is clearer than 1080p but is it worth the higher spend?
Re:Del.icio.us on Wednesday July 29, 2020 @07:24AM (#23985482)
adding rss feeds to (say) google reader doesn't require technical expertise. email newsletters require your email address, which is obviously prone to abuse and spam. newsletters aren't the new rss, but rather an arguably inferior replacement.
Re:Principles for great product managers on Tuesday July 21, 2020 @09:21AM (#23906586)
i can't provide any advice, but could you share what makes you sick of software development?

btw maybe not having a masters degree is an impediment in your pm job search. most devs don't have one nor need one but i suspect as with other management roles, there's a higher perceived need for an advanced degree.
