Thanks, Amazon FPS seems to be exactly what I want, but I don't think it has UK merchant support. I am hesitant about the whole "escrow" system because that can introduce a lot of complications and does not scale easily.

Hi,I'm toying with an idea which involves your standard "directory" type commerce site where you aggregate sellers (e.g. different restaurants) and let them receive their own payments off of the "food" they'd sell on the site. (I know this has been done to death, it's just for illustrative purposes). Is there any service that lets you implement this kind of payments system (i.e. let new sellers...

Hi,I just registered a new .it (TLD for Italy) domain name for my startup - incidentally, works great with a verb (stuff.it, eat.it etc). However, the registration process was more involved than your usual .com/.net in that I had to give a passport number (it's limited to EU citizens). More importantly, there was a clause that said the domain would have to fall under Italian law and...
I've seen quite a few similar concepts out there, but I think your functional but cool domain name is one that I would easily remember over the rest. I really don't get why startups go for some obscure fabricated name linked to some deep Latin or Greek ethos instead of a more functional engaging name.
Thanks, but sarcasm aside, I was going on the premise of a far smaller share (<5%) for an innovative technology. I can see what everyone is saying though, seems like a bad idea. I'll just keep trying to flog it to investors.

Hi,I have a fully working web startup that I want to launch - the cost will be primarily image hosting and while I'm reaching out to Angel Investors (London is getting better but still pretty tough), I was wondering how reasonable an equity for hosting offer would be. I presume most major startups have extra capacity left over after setting aside excess to take up variable demand slack. Do you...
From the point of vew of graduate jobs, becoming a dev in Quant or Algo is definitely a pretty high paid start in line with other IB Front Office (£50k ish). That said, I don't know how well Google pays grad software engineers.
...and this wasn't even UBS LA.
Thanks, that was really useful. Another basic thing I was wondering about was User Management (i.e. getting users to sign up, assigning password protected dirs etc). From browsing around there seems to be some good scripts but are there any classic recommended solutions that would be easy to integrate and allow payments etc.

Hi,I'm looking to deploy my startup on a scalable solution and was hoping you experienced folks at HN could give me a few wise words and tips. The start up is effectively an image editing service which will allow users to host the edited images for use wherever. I anticipate about 1 MB storage per edited image including all overheads. I intend to take a freemium approach with a free service for...
This should make it a lot easier for developers to code a sense of design, a bit like AS3 for Flash.
In my experience, there is a placebo in this delusional sense of elitism that galvanises your belief in being able to achieve literally anything. At your disposal are unrivalled resources, networks, prestige and financial backing that make it much easier to succeed.
Thank you, and I completely agree if I was aiming to be the next eBay execution would be absolutely paramount. However, my (working) prototype is inherently novel and specific to the extent that there is limited scope for messing up the execution, and as a corollary there is a limited number of ways in which you would use/consume it. Sorry to be vague but I'll release more info one of these days once I figure out where to go with it!

Hi,Newbie here. I've spun off my university project into a web prototype that I want to launch eventually, and I've submitted it in the current YC batch. I'm pretty good with it so I've got it hosted, put up a fairly basic (1 person usable) proof of concept prototype. It's also innovative (sorry guys, can't give too many specifics yet). However, I'm not experienced when it comes to rolling out...
Well if that guy ever applies for YC he'll sure have a good answer to the "hacking a system" question.
