Re:Chrome Now Warns Before Insecure HTTP Connections on Saturday October 24, 2026 @06:08AM (#50219761)
It's kinda amazing in retrospect that HTTP was ever the default for sites, even when the Internet was very widely used, and for years.
Re:Musk says he will rename SpaceXAI to SpaceXSI on Monday October 05, 2026 @12:33PM (#49967060)
Also, will Intel remain Intel or become SuperIntel?
Re:Humanity's Last Invention on Monday September 14, 2026 @01:21PM (#49700553)
$4.65B seed round. That's a lot of investor faith in a seed round.
Re:Ask HN: What do you do about API keys? on Saturday September 12, 2026 @01:13AM (#49669053)
- Don't put them in non-trivial paths so they are not easy targets. I never put them under a path that `git clean -xdf` erases, for example.

- One thing that always scares me is that some third party code will just do a getenv AWS_ACCESS_KEY_ID in whatever language and send it out somewhere. So I tend to either invent non trivial environment variables names, and/or do unsetenv when the process starts, after it loads them to some internal config struct.

Re:Godot and Rust based multiplexer (terminal panes and more) on Saturday September 12, 2026 @01:07AM (#49669020)
Terminals and web browsers are our main UI drivers right, so yeah, it makes sense to have a super app that provides them both in the best way. Embdding a terminal inside a web app is annoying because of Ctrl-W and other issues, and embedding a web broswer inside a terminal is even more weird. So we wind up having Wayland compositors do the work to combine them in one environment.

I tried to do this with a simple wgpu + winit app, servo, and alactitty_terminal, and it kinda worked, but both terminal and web browser rendered poorly.

Re:Anthropic aligment lead warns about extinction by AI on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @06:04AM (#49623970)
Frankly, I don't know how this 10% chance can even be calculated.
Re:AI Has a Discovery Problem on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @03:11AM (#49622450)
I see this too. Generally, having a builder mindeset is independent from the tools available.
Re:Software for Humans on Wednesday September 09, 2026 @02:57AM (#49622292)
I think that the future in which these projects will remain relevant does not exist.
Re:Speculative Decoding in vLLM on AMD GPUs on Monday September 07, 2026 @07:34AM (#49597078)
I think this has changed since then, their policies toward open source improved (e.g ROCm).
While the logo somewhat like the shape of the Star Trek franschise Starfleet logo, the small text reads 'Starship Troopers'-inspired, and to remind, in that Heinlein fiction human societies pride themselves in becoming authoritarian. That's the scary part.
Re:Doomscrolling Ourselves to Death on Monday September 07, 2026 @04:25AM (#49595536)
I've read the whole thing, but I usually read the end paragraphs of long articles because that's where he point is made.

Leading to it is:

> A recent report issued by Britain’s most important cultural funding body, the Arts Council, warned against the use of “terms like excellence” which may promote “unhelpful hierarchies about what kinds of work are valued”.’

Which I find despairing. Article ends with:

> The cultural elite has abandoned cultural elitism.

So the point goes far beyond 'social media despair', it goes to say that the entire culture is regressing.

Re:Ask HN: What is one simple thing LLMs are insanely bad at? on Wednesday August 26, 2026 @01:04AM (#49444205)
Understanding human interaction nuance to an exact degree. For example, even when given all the scripts of the Seinfeld TV show, they still cannot come up with a new script does not feel as good as any of them (once they can, I want to watch these episodes..).
Re:Implementation of GPT-2 in pure CMake on Monday August 24, 2026 @09:47AM (#49419740)
These kind of things have used to be more impressive in the past, when you knew that humans made them.
Re:Sokoban via Grok App Builder on Thursday August 20, 2026 @10:08AM (#49374777)
Please share more what you would expect out of sokoban as an AI coding benchmark?
Re:Sokoban via Grok App Builder on Thursday August 20, 2026 @10:04AM (#49374731)
Yes, it's after multiple attempts at the problem. It's hard to nudge it to have it come up with an algorithm that generates 'interestingly difficult' levels.
Re:How to Exist on Saturday August 01, 2026 @06:02AM (#49132900)
That, until the short moment where we all completely lose agency like in Pluribus
Re:AI revenues are growing fast, but not fast enough on Tuesday July 28, 2026 @10:11AM (#49084171)
It makes sense that if software turns to a commodity by AI, and models are also commoditized, then distribution is all that matters. Anthropic is therefore attacking other's distribution in order to protect its business. Perhaps they should focus on their own ways of distribution.
Re:The New AI Superpowers: Focus and Followthrough on Monday July 27, 2026 @04:25AM (#49066627)
People try to automate-maxxing and forget the Human In The Loop (HITL).

We need the HITL. As opposed to people who think that Human In The Loop Entirely Redundant is better. But it's dangerous.

Re:Inflect-Micro-v2: complete voice in 9.36M parameters on Sunday July 26, 2026 @01:40PM (#49060404)
I think we need more neurons in the human brain than parameters in this model for speech. I wonder what it says about the human brain vs LLM efficiency.
Re:Show HN: Reverse Minesweeper on Sunday July 26, 2026 @09:02AM (#49057771)
Awesome idea
- litellm listens on 127.0.0.1:4242 with some pre-shared key, give the credentials to the harness. - Tools can exfiltrate any data accessible to them given network access, so all tools run inside a VM or a container targeted to the specific tasks. For example, I've made podman spawner that runs a 'tool server' inside a container, and all of my custom harness' tool requests go to that container (which can be barred from the network). The workspace for that LLM is solely inside the ephemeral container, but it can get bind mounts from outside if needed.
Re:Why copper still rules the motherboard trace on Thursday July 23, 2026 @02:46AM (#49017772)
Copper from electronics is recyclable, so I'm guessing we should see more recycling of electronics if there are any mining difficulties.
This is going to start being a benchmark for the frontier models. I'm guessing we are at the 'low hanging fruit' of these kind of problems.
Re:Tesla Balance Bike on Wednesday July 22, 2026 @03:08AM (#49002878)
How about for grownups? Those old ICE motorcycles are still making city centers noisy and it would be nice to start phasing them out with electric.
On one hand, I sense that the same people who were in the shorts crowd of the Tesla 'boom or bust' Model 3 era ($TSLQQ) are now piling up against SPCX (e.g. Ed Zitron). Betting again Elon is very risky. And on the other, boy that huge valuation is scary.

The situation could be that there are two intertwined bubbles: an AI-tech-bubble and AI-financial-bubble, both at the same time and only one of them is going to really burst and affect valuations. If that happens, we can only guess the period of time it takes for the S&P 500 to recover.

And on the other hand, there's a whole movement (in niche terms, though) of people going "just add to an S&P 500 ETF for 50 years and forget about everything else".
That could happen, but should also consider that it's often the case with lockups release that they do not inflict much change on the stock price, but only if there's already enough trading volume on the stock due to other market conditions.
Understand that social media endorphin-inducing algorithm optimizers, have made these sites optimized for _all_ ages, so it should not be a surprise. Very few of us are immune.
My longevity will extend one second into the future in nominal terms, increasing the chance to reach the 22nd century a tiny bit.
