I'm convinced to try deno. I only use node for small testing scripts so it should be easy enough.
Re:Google illegally underpaid thousands of workers on Friday September 10, 2021 @11:01PM (#28489090)
It's funny how arrogant you seem to have gotten working at Google. Looking through your post history a couple of years ago you were doing grunt work you would see as below you now. The belief that all Google employees are doing hard innovative work is untrue. A large portion are centering divs and wrangling JSON.

I made the switch a couple months ago and its harder than you think. There is a lot of convenience you take for granted in the smartphone age.
Can't you still cite finances as a reason for not going? As in, "sorry I don't want to spend that much on this experience"
Is your extension collecting email addresses? I got an email after trying it out.
Yeah that makes sense. I'm sure after 5+ years there you would be far better than the average developer. I am talking from the perspective of people that I've seen go to those companies. Sure they were above average programmers, smart and driven but they weren't superstars or truly exceptional.
People that work at FANGs frequently say this isn't true
That's completely reasonable since you're not being paid for the time you spend on the bus or in a car each day.
Re:The ongoing witch-hunt for sex workers in Sweden on Wednesday June 23, 2021 @09:24PM (#27612783)
"Dealers are scum" makes no sense. Is the college guy selling weed and mushrooms to his friends "scum"? Maybe the guy that gives out free samples of meth or heroin to get people addicted is bad but that sort of generalising is why drugs are illegal in the first place.
I wonder about this too. What sort of people do international criminal organisations hire to manage their info-sec? A criminal that became a computer expert or a computer expert that became a criminal?
Not quite. They were using an app developed by the police as a honeypot. Someone else had even discovered this and blogged about it[0]. If they had used email and PGP they likely wouldn't have been caught in this way. 3-letter agencies are not going to use their trump card of backdoored OS or hardware to catch drug runners.

From what I understand they targeted a high ranking member of the gang and he promoted the app, which was developed by the police to others. Since a high level member endorsed it, it become widely used.
Re:America has a drinking problem on Tuesday June 01, 2021 @09:11PM (#27363617)
Would you recommend it? I'm considering giving up drinking entirely and just smoking/vaping weed. A small amount of weed gives me the same sort of social buzz that the sweet spot of alchol (3-6 drinks) gives me, with no hangover and excess calories.

That's why they are all moving to Brisbane. And they shouldn't, because we are full :P

Not surprised to see Australian cities so high. Most office jobs are a strict 9-5 and not a minute over. For outdoors only beaten by a few places in the US and Canada.
I think he's making fun of the over the top gamer branding some technology products have.
Re:Flask 2.0.0 has been merged into master on Tuesday May 11, 2021 @09:10PM (#27125556)
If you like Express and writing middleware in Express, you will love Koa. Its written by the same team that wrote Express so it will be familiar. It makes more use of async/await than Express too.
Can anyone make a comparison between GCRA and the sliding window algorithm? Why is GCRA superior?
Cool site but I'm not giving you my email address. Might use once that is removed. I'd use my Github if you weren't requesting to read my private email.

What a waste of time. Just the author feeling smug about being "smarter" than this person.
Re:Posix Threads Programming on Wednesday February 10, 2021 @07:44AM (#26088369)
I was going to comment the exact same thing. I have fond memories of learning about parallelism in university and using pThreads. It was such a mind-blowing and novel thing at the time when all I had been exposed to was sequential single threaded programming.

Thank for the introduction to vimium. This will change my life

This is why I am baffled by Apple watch users. My phone is distracting enough that I make a point of having it turned off and in my backpack when trying to work. I can't imagine having something on my wrist that vibrates whenever an app is trying to get my attention.

>You are more likely to name a variable after the singers/songs name than what the variable is supposed to reflect (true story).

I thought this was a bit absurd. Good article nonetheless though, I can see how getting into a routine about when you will perform specific tasks throughout the day would be more productive.
