Re:AI Mania: From Tulips to Tokens on Sunday August 02, 2026 @05:35PM (#49148589)
"GPU compute powering crypto for the last decade..."

I keep hearing this lately. Also, that GPU compute has been re-purposed from crypto to AI.

I had the impression that crypto was powered by ASICs for the last... many years. And that was why GPU mining (let alone CPU mining) was not profitable

> Greek being the only Hellenic one

Are there really any other Hellenic languages besides Greek?

Not USB, but there exist SFP DSL modems, like the Proscend 180-T.

They are pricey and difficult to come by, but with something like a Turris Omnia as a host, you _can_ have a single-device modem/router/WiFi AP

He's also the author of elfeed [0] "An Emacs web feeds client". I've found his minimalist implementation very inspiring.

Re:Tell HN: GitHub broke feeds for individual commits on Friday January 12, 2024 @07:05PM (#38975879)
It appears you can still make it return an Atom feed if you pass the 'Accept: application/xml' header.

This is not to say that what they did was right.

We have 30k year old statues?

This is news to me, do you have a reference you can share?

Re:Clean mount lists in Linux on Saturday August 26, 2023 @08:34AM (#37272270)
I have been using `duf` [1] for a while, as a "cleaner" alternative to `df`.

Re:Qalculate – The Ultimate Desktop Calculator on Wednesday August 09, 2023 @09:14AM (#37062179)
It's a really great calculator for all sorts of stuff.

I use many of the following almost daily:

- currency conversion: `x USD to EUR` or `BTC to USD`

- time calculations: `now - 27 hours`

- unix epoch conversion: `timestamp(now - 3 days)`, also `stamptodate()`

- unit conversion: `34 oC to oF`

and more.

Works really nicely with https://github.com/svenstaro/rofi-calc

I have `$mod+c` bound to rofi-calc [1] which I find even more convenient.

Why does email feel wrong? I find it a pretty viable solution.

Re:Heat Pumps – The Well-Tempered Future of A/Cs on Wednesday July 05, 2023 @12:36PM (#36602891)
I have never really understood the difference between a heat pump and an A/C myself.

Any expert care to explain it in layman's terms?

Re:Migrate from Linux to FreeBSD on Monday November 07, 2022 @08:31AM (#33505557)
Is hibernation (is it called suspend-to-disk nowadays?) working with BSD yet?

For me, it is a prerequisite for using BSD as a desktop OS, and what stopped me from migrating from Linux to *BSD last time.

Re:New(ish) command line tools on Wednesday April 13, 2022 @02:47PM (#31018582)
I have found https://github.com/denisidoro/navi very useful for remembering nifty one-liners.

It's like a bookmark manager for commands.

Also good for sharing them with the rest of your team, via a git repo.

Re:My self-hosting infrastructure, fully automated on Saturday January 22, 2022 @03:09AM (#30034715)
I always found the hurdle with self-hosting to be maintaining, not the initial setup. Things like upgrading, in order to keep getting security fixes, and verifying everything works after the upgrade, are what has taken the most effort and time in the past for me.

This looks like a great setup by the author, but difficult to maintain in the long run without significant time investment.

Ask HN: GNU readline editing support in GUI frameworks

Is there a way to use GNU readline motion and editing key bindings in GUI frameworks like GTK+, Qt, etc.?Over the years I have grown accustomed to readline's key bindings in the terminal (e.g.: ctrl+a: move to the line start, ctrl+e: move to the line end, etc.) and I find it annoying not to be able to use the same bindings in GUI input fields.How come there isn't widespread support for this,...

You can also delete old (older than 90 days) undo files with the following in your .vimrc:

  let s:undos = split(globpath(&undodir, '*'), "\n")
  call filter(s:undos, 'getftime(v:val) < localtime() - (60 * 60 * 24 * 90)')
  call map(s:undos, 'delete(v:val)')
