Re:Elasticsearch SQL on Monday October 24, 2022 @03:30PM (#33321326)
As I recall, this is severely limited in that it does not correctly support sub-searches or pivoting between different indexes. Any news on if this has been improved?

Why is the velocity of a falling bullet > the speed of gravity?
Re:SSH tips and tricks on Tuesday August 16, 2022 @03:19PM (#32487501)
I will for sure be using the SSH straight into Tmux trick. To get it to work I had to add a RequestTTY option in ~/.ssh/config.

Ask HN: Is Russia taking down kyivpost.com?

A major Ukrainian media outlet appears to be down. Is Russia behind it? How might you go about investigating this more methodically? I posted the results I gathered when I tried to reach it from a VPS in Poland.https://pastebin.com/Tbe4UmDd

Re:I got pwned by my cloud costs on Monday January 24, 2022 @03:22AM (#30054813)
Ouch. If Troy Hunt of all people can make this mistake, it can happen to anybody. HIBP is an awesome service funded totally by donations, so it's too bad this happened. Of course Microsoft is happy to hide behind their confusing pricing model and let customers overpay for Azure without alerting them.
Re:CronRAT malware hides behind February 31st on Sunday November 28, 2021 @01:55PM (#29371703)
That seems like an obvious oversight. This is a well known and widely used malware technique. https://attack.mitre.org/techniques/T1053/003/
Re:COBOL – Still standing the test of time on Wednesday September 15, 2021 @06:46PM (#28545375)
I would imagine part of the reason is because even if you have a trained COBOL maintainer, they still have to learn and understand the actual business logic of the application. Learning the language is not even half the battle. Maintaining old often undocumented code is a hard task in any language.
Re:Check If Email Exists on Friday July 02, 2021 @12:32AM (#27707833)
Does it work?
Ah, I was confused until I ran > alias ii

Now I see why this works. Good trick either way.

I learned from the video you can launch VS code from within WSL with "code ."

That's really useful. I like it.

Google DNS is reporting back a different IP for me when I query perl.com (same subnet though). It's all part of the Google Cloud /13 block.

Sure it may have been used for malware, but given those IPs float between ephemeral cloud instances, it does not mean it is currently being used for malware.

Are you saying you do not use IDEs? What is your rationale for that decision?
I guess this means a lot of malware/botnets that uses Twitter to communicate just broke today.
