I've got a `.rustfmt.toml` file in all my repos with

  hard_tabs = true
Got this spam today on my GitHub address, YC affiliated:

Hey,

I hope all is well with you, just reaching out as you seem to be interested in on-device speech models.

Cactus is a low-latency AI engine for consumer devices like phones, Macs, wearables, Raspberry Pis, etc.

We support transcription models like Whisper & Parakeet, benchmarks available in the attached GitHub repo.

GitHub: https://github.com/cactus-compute/cactus

We are keen to get your feedback, and star if feeling generous.

Thanks a million

I had a similar problem, the 5 reboots fixed it: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102577
Re:Psilocybin shows promise as anti-aging therapy on Saturday July 12, 2025 @06:27AM (#44540946)
Melatonin is effective ~5 hours later. No need to take more than 0.3 mg.

What you should try is L-Theanine just before going to sleep, it's effective against Caffeine, not sure about Psilocybin.

I did some benchmarks on one of our CLI and found that `opt-level = "z"` reduced the size from 2.68M to 2.28M, and shaved 10% on the build time, worth a try.

I'll try with `panic = "abort"` for our next release, thanks for the reminder.

Same, anGLuar sounds, for a french speaker, like https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/engluer

1. to birdlime

2. (reflexive) to get bogged down

Re:Kagi finally let me lay Google Search to rest on Thursday October 12, 2023 @02:41AM (#37854147)
I'm a paying customer since June 2022, and I was wondering if I was the only one using its most powerful feature: domains personalizations. I guess not: https://kagi.com/stats?stat=leaderboard&k=2

When you start searching a lot for professional reasons (e.g. rust the language vs rust the game), Kagi's value is a no-brainer.

This should help:

Re:Klack – Satisfying sound with every keystroke on Tuesday September 05, 2023 @03:23PM (#37396504)
Been using it for weeks, makes me feel "productive" when typing a lot.

Some keys (numeric keypad) are silent, which is odd, and makes me look at the keyboard wondering where did I put my fingers...

Flywheel are efficient for high power in short duration: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flywheel_energy_storage

Usually used during a short period of time before the diesel generator can be fully operational.

Re:Store your epoch times as 64-bit floats on Friday June 09, 2023 @05:22PM (#36264334)
At first glance I thought you were talking about "Thai" time, which is a surprising calendar when you have dates with years in the 2500 range. Looking at you Symantec AntiVirus, storing AV definitions date using the user's locale...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhist_calendar

If you are a homeowner, first start with your own house.

1. Insulation

2. Heat pump

3. Solar panels (more the better)

Depending on your location, this will be amortized in ~7 years, which is like 14%/year return rate. Excellent investment!

With some added benefits:

- Better climate control (less cold in winter, less hot in summer)

- Charge the car/bike for free

- Some green washing points to brag about ;-)

Well, Romansh is a Romance language, a Latin vernacular like French and Spanish.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romance_languages

Off topic: I'm rebuilding our landing page (targeting CH for the time being) and decided to add Romansh. Long story short, there are 5 standard forms, plus an official made-up version, all of that for 60k speakers. Was interesting to read so much about our 4th official language.

I've found the sparse protocol many times faster than git since Rust 1.68

To use the sparse protocol with crates.io, set the environment variable CARGO_REGISTRIES_CRATES_IO_PROTOCOL=sparse, or edit your .cargo/config.toml file to add:

  [registries.crates-io]
  protocol = "sparse"

Re:Firefox 111 supports CSS 4 color functions on Wednesday March 15, 2023 @12:21PM (#35170653)
CSS color functions color(), lab(), lch(), oklab(), and oklch() are now supported. These features are disabled by default and can be enabled by setting the preference layout.css.more_color_4.enabled to true.

rsvg-convert from https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/librsvg is what I use. They've been refactoring it in Rust for the last 5 years. It fit my needs, but I'm still trying to figure out how to get it to compile and get a fully static build.

Re:ReMarkable 2 on Thursday October 27, 2022 @02:49AM (#33354077)
I wish Remarkable would release an Apple Silicon (arm64) version of their desktop companion app.

I've got to keep an old Intel MacBook for these "legacy" apps, it's not ideal.

It works in Rosetta, but I can't install Rosetta on my main machine. I use it for dev work and the only way I've found to ensure that I don't have x64 code sneaking in is to have Rosetta not installed.

Re:Zstandard – Real-time data compression algorithm on Monday September 05, 2022 @03:11AM (#32721416)
Yes, sort of: "Zstd offers a training mode, which can be used to tune the algorithm for a selected type of data. Training Zstandard is achieved by providing it with a few samples (one file per sample). The result of this training is stored in a file called "dictionary", which must be loaded before compression and decompression. Using this dictionary, the compression ratio achievable on small data improves dramatically."
