Bro, do you even code?

I like the concept btw...

Re: on Saturday September 17, 2011 @03:46PM (#3008782)
It's a good idea and will save me time. But, I really think it needs a subject line.
Re:Show HN: Buzzer beater notifications on Tuesday May 31, 2011 @11:08PM (#2605778)
Dig the idea, but agree the design is lacking. I'm still going to subscribe - good luck!
Re:Famous people productivity methods on Tuesday March 23, 2010 @11:33AM (#1213141)
That site is pretty cool, there are lots of similar charts and graphs on there.

Day jobs...

I worked in Olathe, Kansas for about eight years before moving to Portland, Oregon. I wouldn't personally move back, but I sure do miss the BBQ and significantly lower cost of living.

Assuming they would have kept their SF salaries - they would have felt like they got a pretty sweet raise. On the flip side, Kansas doesn't offer anywhere near the culture or available activities.

They way they choose to handle this was pretty cool though, good for them!

Re:Tell HN: Rails screencasts. on Sunday March 14, 2010 @02:32PM (#1191061)
http://www.railstutorial.org/

This is a book teaches you how to build a Twitter like applications. According to the site it will eventually be accompanied by screencasts.

I do like screencast though. I say go for it but teach folks how to build a different application than the one in Rails Tutorial.

Re:PG Essay Return of the Mac Revisited on Tuesday February 02, 2010 @03:05PM (#1095914)
That is a good point. But certainly some of the folks PG observed had always user Macs as well.

It would be interesting to know how many people he had interviewed at the time he wrote the essay.

Re:Mathematical and Scientific Joke Competition on Saturday January 30, 2010 @04:12PM (#1089267)
Q. Did you hear about the constipated mathematician? A. He worked it out with a pencil.
Re:Poll: Are you getting an iPad? on Wednesday January 27, 2010 @03:23PM (#1081636)
I choose No.

I'm interested in playing with one. But I really don't think I will buy one - perhaps my wife will though. ;-)

Re:HN: Help me pick a logo on Sunday January 24, 2010 @04:31PM (#1073833)
plus one on both of these suggestions.
Re:Ask HN: An app to organize business-cards ? on Thursday January 21, 2010 @12:00PM (#1067689)
Have you considered Evernote? You can input text or take photos. Then tag them all to keep it organized.
Re:Ask HN: What are the best links that we've missed? on Monday January 18, 2010 @01:02AM (#1059514)
That's really cool! I sometimes go on streaks of actual work and always knew I was missing some great stuff. Thanks.

Yeah - he should just make 10 louder.
Re:Ask HN: Which tools you use to develop your webapp? on Sunday January 10, 2010 @11:41AM (#1043260)
Currently while developing a Rails app I'm using Notepad++ on my provided XP machine. And normally Pico when SSH'd in, making quick updates.
Because all of the necessities are covered? Death by comfort?
Re:Ask HN: Framework or no framework on Thursday January 07, 2010 @06:50PM (#1038370)
I think you should stick with the framework, at least until your requirements exceed the frameworks capabilities.

There is always a simpler solution that you can one off. But is it worth your time to reinvent the wheel?

Also, I'm curious - were you able to do the same thing in Python that you did in Scrapy because you tried Scrapy first?

Re:Poll: Tablet? Why? on Thursday January 07, 2010 @12:46PM (#1037517)
I don't see the appeal of a tablet. I can't think of a single reason to use one. I like my iPhone - it fills in the gaps enough for me. But I still prefer to be on an actual computer.

Tablets just seem odd to me. How do you hold it? Do you set it down on the desk and stare down at it? Are you going to prop it up? Will it have peripheral support?

Re:Tablet Musings on Thursday January 07, 2010 @12:40PM (#1037496)
Form and function wise I just don't get tablets. I don't seem them replacing MacBooks.
Re:Tablet Musings on Thursday January 07, 2010 @12:39PM (#1037492)
Unfortunately - I bet a lot of this is dead on. I can't imagine the device being more open than any other Apple product is.
Re:Other startup got there before me. Stop or continue? on Thursday January 07, 2010 @12:32PM (#1037473)
Keep pushing on. You should be encouraged that the idea has competition, I think that gives it merit.

Also - their large team and funding could actually limit them. You will have a lot more freedom to build what you want.

I asked a few days ago - here is that thread.

Re:Why James Chartrand Wears Women’s Underpants on Monday December 14, 2009 @11:25AM (#994378)
I don't know - I think it is interesting. I would have thought that it would be easier for a woman to be successful writing on the internet. I guess I based that on 'sex sells'. It does seem that profiles on social sites with photos of pretty girls get more attention...
Re:How to fix capitalism on Sunday November 22, 2009 @12:47AM (#955452)
Well I didn't really understand that article, but I know how to fix capitalism. Though you're going have to pay me to find out.
I just ask myself, "Is there anything you can do to fix it right now?" If the answer is no, I feel less stressed and am more able to focus on other tasks.
Re:Ask HN: How can I get up early in the morning? on Friday March 20, 2009 @12:09PM (#525081)
If you’re able, you should do what comes naturally. Are you a night-owl or a morning person? If you’re asking about how to wake up earlier, I’d guess the former.

I’m simply more productive and creative in the AM, so I rise each day at 5:30. For me, knowing when I'm the most please with my own production is my motivation. But, by the time 2 or 3 rolls around in the afternoon I’m all out of juice. And truth be told if I wasn’t in a corporate environment I would likely take a nap at this time to recharge.
