Re:Government Proposes New Six-Figure Fee for H1B Visas on Friday August 28, 2026 @11:07AM (#49479690)
The argumenth that H-1Bs are best and brightest is laughable and has been refuted so many time. I don't think anyone would argue against using H-1B as intended to bring best and brightest. If so, it would be nothing for the employers to pay a little bit to prove that the person is so good.

However, the vast majority of H-1Bs are not better than Citizens/Perm residents. And my personal experience working with them side-by-side would actually say that outside of the big-tech the majority of typical H-1Bs are actually significantly worse than their US Citizen peers.

The argument of that we need to import H-1Bs due to shortage on the local market is also laughable given the state the market has been in the last 5 years (constant layoffs, many qualified candidates can't land a job for 1.5-2 years).

Being a total mechanics noob I watched a youtube video guide and did it myself to my Prius V in roughly 30 minutes. It is actually pretty easy to do. Just unscrew a couple of 10mm and 14mm bolts. I really like my prius V. it requires less maintenance that ICEs. And all the scheduled maintainance is pretty much DIY.

Also, I no longer consider any EU car brands at all. I think they wasted all their prior brand value and now buying them is simply not a smart decision.

This is the bigest misconception that H-1B is meant to hire the best. It is NOT. Foreign H-1Bs are typically rank-and-file employees to take mid-level jobs en masses. The best and brightest cannot go through H-1B due to oversubscription and resulting lottery. Thus the best and brightest are using different visa types like O-1 and self-apply for green cards using EB1/EB2 National Interest Waivers.
And what percentage of H-1Bs are these PhDs with groundbreaking research backgrounds? The vast majority of the H-1Bs are hired by a handful of consulting firms (mostly indian) to do mundate SWE/IT jobs that don't require any special skills but a few months of bootcamp.

Also, don't forget that truly exceptional researchers can self-file for green-card using national interest waiver categories: EB1NIW, EB2NIW don't require employee sponsorship.

So, I think your point is moot.

So, you are effectively committing fraud!
First of all these are not new gems. In the past I used both and I strongly prefer this one to aasm. I like the DSL of it. It seems more convenient to me.

In terms of productivity getting into the first release nothing beats Ruby

The Yubikey OTPs work if Yubikey is connected to a phone via USB (Type-C). Not sure about Fido/U2f etc though.
