You can't see the amount on any feed except the me tab
and guess what I'm doing in the next 4 weeks... Really trying to formulate a plan for when I move across the country to try and make friends and have a life.
Re:Implementing Malloc: Students and Systems Programming [pdf] on Thursday December 21, 2017 @09:38AM (#15978980)
I wish I went to a real school that had interesting labs and projects like this and actually taught their students.
I am really interested in what company this is. I love kotlin and wish I could switch all of our new java services to kotlin going forward
In defense of the person you replied to, I had the original question framed around my situation more but edited it to be more generic. Thank you for the information!
Re:Why functional programming matters on Tuesday April 18, 2017 @09:02AM (#14138437)
Does anyone have a solid place to start with functional programming? Don't really care too much about the language it's associated with but would really like to jump into learning the concepts behind it.

That is the ugliest thing I've seen in a long time, more power to you if you like the appearance, but I can't seem them bringing in sales for that thing for the design.

Re:Hiring without whiteboards on Wednesday March 15, 2017 @09:47AM (#13876019)
Yea but the process is never just coding project... It's either just whiteboard interviews or a coding project and then whiteboard interviews. There's never a reduction in time here
Re:Hiring without whiteboards on Wednesday March 15, 2017 @09:39AM (#13875971)
Why does everyone assume that you're asked to write perfect code on a whiteboard? I've been through 15+ interviews and have never been asked to worry about method names being right or signatures of methods being perfect and such. Most of the time people are amicably against me worrying about it. This isn't an issue.
This is what "Via" (https://ridewithvia.com/) and they got the idea from the van-busses in Israel and Turkey does here in NYC and some areas.
that's true, it's a bit of a gray area.
the way I read it is, I can't put a new name on it under my name and then redistribute it. But I can use it in a library or app and then open source and distribute that
Re:Why Snapchat didn’t give Spectacles to techies on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @09:56AM (#12967385)
some people don't want to text, regardless if you're on an iphone or not. I've had people I just don't talk to much anymore because they only want to use iMessage and hate when it's the different color for someone out of the ecosystem.
Re:Why Snapchat didn’t give Spectacles to techies on Wednesday November 16, 2016 @09:56AM (#12967380)
The reason why it's not a privacy issue? You can tell when someone is snapping with spectacles. You could have no idea someone was taking a photo with glass. It's different.
Author here, I hope this post doesn't come off as a, "Let's all stop using Java for everything because Kotlin is amazing." Just wanted to write it because I had found Kotlin pretty interesting and I was able to find some places in the code bases I work with that would make it a lot more readable and easier to understand.
Re:Macbook Pro Touch Bar runs watchOS on Friday October 28, 2016 @10:05AM (#12815923)
I always saw it as a strong portable machine for people who needed to work on the go. I'm sure video editors, photo editors, audio people use shortcuts and do touch typing.

Re:Be Kind on Friday October 14, 2016 @09:18AM (#12707842)
This was literally the biggest issue for when I started at my first job. We had a team member who was terribly condescending and talked down to everyone but especially me. You could tell that he hated the fact that he was on a team with a junior developer and took every chance he had to made sure I knew I wasn't as good as him. It makes a terrifying environment to ask questions because who knows what kind of response you're going to get.
Re:Soaring Student Debt Prompts Calls for Relief on Tuesday September 13, 2016 @03:34PM (#12491486)
Every state school in NJ is pushing close to 20k a year now with fees. Let alone room and board and you're getting close to 30k.
Re:Soaring Student Debt Prompts Calls for Relief on Tuesday September 13, 2016 @03:33PM (#12491472)
what state does that exist in? No state school here in NJ is under 10k a year, and none of them are ranked decently except for maybe Rutgers, Stevens, and NJIT's architecture program.
That's not what he's saying. The original quote was that people replace head phones all the time, he doesn't. Higher end headphones allow you to not replace headphones all the time when a small piece wears out or breaks. So that quote is false for him.
