Yeah I know- I have accounts on bluesky and mastodon as well- but I try not to isolate myself to one network, there are plenty of non-usa accounts that were only on X who I followed for technology and art/photography stuff. shikata ga nai I guess.

Posting here since I am curious if any friends on HN have faced the same AI based banning. I have had a Twitter account since like 2008 and they just did this- like folks on reddit are reporting appeals just get robo-rejected. Is there any way to reach a human at X? I have some SWEs and SREs in my linkedin account as second and third person contacts but reaching out there just feels wrong. Putting AI in charge of Auto banning 10+ year old paying accounts is insane. There is another thread on this same issue here

I feel this. And agree- like when I started playing with cloud tools in 2006... AI tooling has quickly become a main part of my daily workflow.
Well that ansible job was quickly ran, buhbye atop. Very concerning coming from Rachel and not some rando. I know a number of fortune 5's that use atop for troubleshooting as well. So as others have commented if you had this baked into images or loaded with puppet etc than now may be the time to cleanup.
Bonus points for articles that start with a tldr and don't try to bury the lead
Actually had this happen with a boomer long ago. Not saying that insultingly- just a difference in generational cohorts. I use Google keep for all my notes. The guy stopped mid meeting and asked me why I felt he was so boring that I would just play on my phone during the meeting.
I turned the screen and explained the typing was me taking notes. He and I had a good laugh and had a better understanding about this- ever since then I tell new people in meetings with me that I am going to take notes on my phone.
This guy and I became good friends but this is just a difference in technology utilization between generations.
Holy cow, was this a test of my ad blocker?
Delete Nazis killed a number of good deeply technical pages, always citing some obtuse wikilaw. There was a time when contributing was encouraged and assisted. Now if you make a new article one of these pricks will delete all of your work no questions asked with their fake voting process where they pull in their little cadre of friends.
Now I just add data to places like GitHub and subject specific wikis. I treat wikipedia like Pinterest at this point.
Curious if I am the only one that has such a dislike for wikipedia?
Tldr. Never, ever take a tam role at Amazon. My leadership actually told me to avoid that role when I worked at Amazon as I was curious about more customer facing roles.
Ditto, not sure why everyone hates on plex so much. Sure they do some dumb stuff- but overall media handling capability has improved. I am still pissed about camera upload and podcast support. But not enough for all the reddit user rage I see.
Use both Plex and Emby. This does not concern me since I think of Plex the same way as I think about a SIP provider. They provide the connection brokering so my devices and my server can handshake.
I have Emby as a backup because some media might have issues with transcode on plex. Jellyfin is a distant third for me due to transcode issues with hdr 4k content. (When last tested)
Either way, my content is for me- still not sure why people are crazy enough to pirate a ton of crap, buy space on a cloud provider then sell it on reddit.
I am sure the backlash on this move will be on par with when Plex said they wanted to collect media hashes and everyone swiftly raged at them.
The sad thing is Plex used to be awesome they killed camera upload and their podcast product is garbage cloud only trash. Plexamp is awesome. It just blows my mind they they don't create a podcast polling module where you can store data locally.
All of their recent focus has been on trying to be a multi streaming site aggregator. If they took a lesson from ye olden dogpile I think they would see this is a bad cart to hitch your horse to- they really need to get back to self hosted stuff.
This ticks me off... But their DVR and advert removal tooling for live TV tuners still rocks and I use for accessing my CATV and OTA channels.
Someday I will drop them- this is just another bad choice by very schizophranic leadership at Plex.
Plexamp is my main Android auto car music app, maybe I drop them for all but my live TV and music use?
Curious why Emby is not brought up more- I love it much more than jellyfin for stability.
That is why I selfhost. Digital ocean has an appliance you can spin up and play with in about 10 minutes.
I think you know, but in the civil fashion of this site and assuming positive intent in your question;
Shorthand for American obsession with identity politics, pronouns, trigger warnings. Those things are okay, but when it's all you post about and your entire identity is being oppressed and offended- it gets old quick.
Also shout-out to tacobelllabs.net for my favorite domain name.
I'm not at all affiliated with this instance but I follow many users there and the admin Jerry is a pretty cool dude. Checkout infosec.exchange
But yeah I'm amazed that such a glowing article came out about hachyderm. To be fair, they serve their userbase well. And I think that's where the federverse wins. You have instances that exist on the far extremes of both political sides of the spectrum. Then you have instances that are mostly apolitical and focus on technology or photography etc.
Yep I defederated her instance because it was full blown woke political stuff. Nice thing though with mastodon, we can do that. My instances are apolitical technology groups. Still though- I love mastodon.
I am so tired of people depending on others hosting their content. If your going to pay a website for something consider self hosting. I hate the modren lack of genetic diversity in the web. I used to spend hours on topic specific sites and forums. Well before wikipedia, reddit, twitter and facebook.
Something something old man yells at clouds. I hate how the internet has become a handful of large sites to the average american. Shamelessly going to plug that projects like mastodon and Lemmy have been super fun and I really hope it's a direction we start seeing people move.
Simple federated sites without some cryptobro vapourware.
Stopped buying WD years ago when they went to the Skittles marketing and after a number of worthless green drive failures.
My raid arrays all use segate drives. The exos line has been pretty solid. Segate has their own problems, not saying the are perfect.
Its not a bad language once you get used to it and the ability of Cache to scale is past what I have seen with other database products. (I work on an EMR that also happens to use Cache and know some Epic people)
Edit; just going to link one of their docs https://learning.intersystems.com/course/view.php?id=417&sso...
It's actually a pretty awesome product. Its used by some top EMRs like Epic and Meditech. I used to think this story was insane then I worked with EMRs. Multivalue databases have their place and are very good for people records. You will also see innersystems cache and iris used in many government and intelligence sectors.
100% why I left the Amazon meat grinder and RSU weighted compensation packages. I am one million times happier working for a midsize business that actually treats me like a creative, not an assembly line worker.
Pretty disappointed it's not signal or Mastodon or literally anything other than Discord.
Also their website sucks as explaining it.
1. You setup a server at domain.tld
2. Your account is named Bob
3. Go and browse any mastadon instances you please- easy to find on Google.
4. You follow someone by copying their @username@domain and pasting it into your instance. Basically like following a blog with RSS
5. You can now see their posts and interact with them. They will see you as [email protected]
It's awesome. And was about 30mins of work.
Just setup my own instance its super easy to follow people and interact. The "blogosphere" has been reborn. You can stand one up for less than a Twitter plus subscription and start interacting with others today.
Where is the schematic for the hardware and the 3d printed parts?
