Getting enough sleep. Seriously, it makes a huge difference.

You're able to make better mental connections and decisions when you're well rested, ultimately leading to growth as a developer.

Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @02:20PM (#13073752)
I get that, but that's after the first TB. For a $5 VPS I'd expect most customers wouldn't go over that.
Re:Amazon LightSail: Simple Virtual Private Servers on AWS on Wednesday November 30, 2016 @12:37PM (#13072747)
They say on the FAQ:

>For every Lightsail plan you use, we charge you the fixed hourly price, up to the maximum monthly plan cost.

Wording implies the monthly pricing is a 'maximum' price.

Re:Show HN: Dply – Free temporary Linux servers on Thursday November 24, 2016 @10:39AM (#13030839)
Pretty cool! Spun up a new server in like 30 seconds. I can see this being helpful for small POC's and the like.

I'd say a good next step would be to add some more user-data example scripts for common setups.

Awesome job!

Re:The Programmer’s Guide to a Sane Workweek on Friday September 16, 2016 @10:07AM (#12514076)
I think this really boils down to self regulation. In some/most cases no one is forcing you to work 50+ hours a week.

I remember a sign a coworker used to have in his office. The gist is - are you happy? If so, keep doing what you're doing, if not, change something.

These are all very good points, coming from someone in a agency/consulting shop. Big things I find are being able to communicate effectively with non-technical folks, budget accurately, and knowing when to ask for help vs. hammering something out.
Re:Bluebird in the wild: Advanced promise-based workflows on Tuesday April 19, 2016 @10:48AM (#11527352)
Good reasoning here. Bluebird also has alot of utility methods that native promises don't have/support.

I love that the screenshot is HTML. DevOps is known to be very heavily HTML based work... .
Re:WordPress Plugin Possible Cause in Mossack Fonseca Breach on Thursday April 07, 2016 @04:45PM (#11450562)
I dunno if this promotes their product all that much. It does highlight some major issues with out of date plugins and WP installs though.
Re:WordPress Plugin Possible Cause in Mossack Fonseca Breach on Thursday April 07, 2016 @04:42PM (#11450540)
Eh, it wasn't WordPress per se, but a plugin. This plugin's vulnerability was also posted YEARS ago. So I wouldn't blame WP (in this case).

As a dev, I've come across plenty of out of date CMS/ modules/ plugins that had huge security holes in them. It's part of the 'build and forget' mentality that seems to be widespread these days.

Re:Recreating Daft Punk's Da Funk with Overtone and Leipzig on Thursday April 07, 2016 @07:22AM (#11446366)
Haha. This is awesome. I wonder what the final output would be. A full song?
Nice. Was looking for something like this.
Re:Now: realtime Node.js deployments on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @02:30PM (#11440709)
Ah cool. Kind of like a Heroku build pack. Still more effort than 'just deploy' though.
Re:Now: realtime Node.js deployments on Wednesday April 06, 2016 @02:23PM (#11440657)
Also, Openshift is only supporting Node O.10 right now...
Sucks, but we've all been there. If the admin is reading this, it's all going to be ok! Just remember, life sucks, then you die...

Nice write up. As someone who doesn't work remotely this provides some neat insight.
Re:jQuery.sheet – Easy and fast spreadsheets for the web on Friday February 05, 2016 @05:06PM (#11045006)
Oh man I so agree with you. Just finished a mini app build with React. I don't understand the popularity.

Yep, same boat here. Even in Web dev if the page takes too long to load, or an API call is slow...off to HN
Re:Two HN Announcements on Tuesday September 29, 2015 @03:32PM (#10298917)
I agree. The mobile apps for HN are terrible.
Re:Two HN Announcements on Tuesday September 29, 2015 @03:31PM (#10298907)
Cool. Any word on a responsive template for the site?
Re:Stop using React for everything on Wednesday August 26, 2015 @11:20AM (#10123491)
I think these points could be for 'hip' frameworks in general. As a developer, it's tiring keeping up with the latest and greatest AT ALL TIMES. Anyone have a good comparison of React and Angular that cuts through the hype?
Re:Show HN: MonkeyLearn – Text Mining Made Easy on Thursday January 22, 2015 @03:42PM (#8931614)
Looks like some formatting issues in the "Super Easy Integration" sample code. JS/Java and .NET have some weird tab spaces. Chrome Mac OSX Yosemite.
