Re:Wendell Berry has died, age 92 on Thursday September 03, 2026 @02:35AM (#49546601)
I first read Berry as a student of agronomy in university and have been deeply moved and impressed by his work ever since. Coming from a (European) family of farmers I have always felt a profound connection to his characters and stories. He will be remembered.

Obviously nothing is stopping me, that's not the point. I was just highlighting the fact that in my opinion the DX of parts of Django is inferior compared to the JS frontend ecosystem. As the Django community, I think this is something we should have an eye on.

I love Django and have been using it for many many years. Lately, however, I’ve been finding it increasingly difficult not to be annoyed by some aspects of the developer experience. For example I’d choose React + Typescript over Django templates any time of the day.
Re:Ask HN: Solo Dev(Op)s, how do you deploy webapps in 2021? on Saturday April 03, 2021 @05:23AM (#26679501)
Even for small stuff? And which managed k8s would you recommend?

Ask HN: Solo Dev(Op)s, how do you deploy webapps in 2021?

I'm a solo dev focusing on webapps (python/nodejs/go). In the past, I've been deploying for production on Linux VMs (Hetzner) or AWS Elastic Beanstalk for small to medium audiences. For an upcoming project, I'm looking for a hosting solution that would ideally tick the following boxes- managed (server)- (GitHub) CI/CD integration with push to deploy- zero downtime deployments- Docker containers,...

I have been meaning to develop the exact same thing (I was going to call it lastsforever.store), but just never found the time. Thanks for putting this out there. I'd say it's still a little rough on the edges, but should have potential.

What I honestly dislike, however, is to see all the google tracking going on there... is that really necessary?

Re:Ask HN: What projects are you working on now? on Tuesday March 24, 2020 @04:26AM (#22673048)
I'm working on a webapp that enables people to include non-smart (i.e. pdf or paper based) data about their carbon footprint into https://north-app.com/.

The alpha version is available here: outsmart.superservice-international.com/

I studied agronomy and am well familiar with Berrey's work. Nonetheless, I was sucked into technology's vortex and am nowadays working as a software engineer. In my dreams I’ll go back to farming one day, but if I’m dead honest that’s probably never going to happen. We’ll all eat lab food pretty soon, hopefully at least for the better of the environment.

Similar experience. While the django rest framework is a joy to use, I’m almost inclined to call graphene a headache. Poor docs, lots of spread our third party extensions that really should be in the core... I have even found myself wondering if the stark discrepancy between drf and graphene reflects or hints at a decline of django as a framework.
Thanks!

Ask HN: How do you not ruin your back (as an engineer)?

Working as a software engineer, I'm sitting/standing (==> not moving!) for ~8 hours a day. Six years into the profession, I'm starting to feel the negative effects this has on my body, especially my back.I eat healthy food and I do sports ~2x a week, but still I feel I need to go beyond this to avoid a physical breakdown before I turn 40 (or even 35).So my question is: How do you not ruin...

Ask HN: Is there spaghetti code in e.g. iOS?

Whenever I work on software, I find that it usually has some parts that shine and others that smell. This makes me wonder if there's also code smells in "big" software like iOS or Gmail that should be rewritten?Any experience?

How are Shopify and basecamp "clean tech"?

Ask HN: Which clean tech company is hiring (remote) software engineers?

Being very much concerned about the ecological crisis in general and climate change in particular, I would like to turn towards dedicating my career to the attempt of contributing to the prevention of that crisis.I have a background in agronomy, have been working as a full stack web developer (python + javascript) for six years and have been getting into data science and machine learning...

Your app is very impressive from a technological point of view.

However, I would like to point out that while there are ~400 million dogs in the world, there are only ~200.000 wolves left. Things are getting out of hand.

Based on the github api and github topics, look up and compare popular repos for any framework or technology.

Original motivation: As a react developer I find it quite inspiring to look from time to time what is going on the angular or vue world.

Comparisons/explorations can also be shared like so: https://ecosystem-explorer.github.io/?topics=react,vue,angul...
