They're pretty cool. They can be good in situations where you don't want any backlash and lots of torque. I believe they're very popular as actuators in robotics.

You can still get to product reviews directly and search them. Here's an example:

Product page (copy the identifier at the end): https://www.amazon.com/Long-Thanks-Hitchhikers-Guide-Galaxy-...

Review page (paste the identifier at the end): https://www.amazon.com/product-reviews/B001OF5F1E/

This seems to bypass all of the LLM stuff for now.

It does mention Kowloon:

As others noted, it does happen and is called a human challenge trial. In fact, here's one for malaria that's currently accepting signups.

I feel like there's an interesting irony here (on HN, not in the particular link you shared). In a thread where folks are discussing how they like/dislike how companies shutter their forums in favor of Discord, you then see how Discord themselves use a more traditional thread based tool to manage their own support site rather than using Discord itself.

Why wouldn't Discord's support site say, "Meet us in the Support Discord"?

FWIW, it was confirmed that this was a bad parking job and was making things annoying for the employees.

0xffff2, you yourself just said, "I'm stuck in <location> because of <reason>." It can't be that baffling to think that h3rsko is also stuck (e.g. because of a family).

Ask HN: How has SARS-CoV-2 impacted your benefits and compensation?

For those fortunate enough to have so far kept their job through the pandemic thus far, have your benefits and compensation been impacted either immediately or in the future?I imagine there have been combinations of furloughs, bonus plan adjustments, retirement match reductions, promotion freezes, etc. Have executives taken pay cuts? I've been curious to see how large and small companies in...

From the article (if you scroll down to the Camera section and expand it):

asdf21 is implying that your strategy probably won't be effective because YouTube may only enforce this policy selectively (i.e. not on their own parent's content or other powerful entities).
Re:How Discount Brokerages Make Money on Tuesday June 25, 2019 @08:19PM (#20280706)
> Brokerage customers keep ~10% of their assets in cash. The 200 basis point spread between cash in brokerage accounts and money market funds or insured bank accounts [...] is equivalent to a 20 bps asset management fee across the portfolio.

Could someone break this down a bit more? I'm trying to grok the point, but don't have the intuition. Where is the "200 basis point spread" coming from? Why is it equivalent to a 20 bps management fee?

Mods should tag this as being from 2017.
Re:Instacart CEO apologizes for tipping debacle on Wednesday February 06, 2019 @04:54PM (#19100457)
I wonder if this starts organically: some customers paid tips in cash to their "shoppers", word gets around, people see other gig apps accepting tips, and so Instacart follows suit and adds this feature.

Perhaps it's a legal cover? If enough customers are paying cash tips, is it in Instacart's best interest to keep track of this (by building a tip feature into the app) for tax reasons?

Devil's advocate: sounds like someone knowledgeable enough to make a video that's can't be easily dismissed as a prank. :-)

Re:Glitter bomb tricks parcel thieves on Tuesday December 18, 2018 @10:38AM (#18707216)
What are people's thoughts on if this is staged?

Considering the views / subscriptions are the main motivation here, it might justify the expenses poured into this project – that is, it would be quite a waste if all that effort went into the build just to have no one actually take it off the porch.

If actors were used, it would explain the lack of police involvement (it's easy to say, "police weren't interested" ).

An obvious consequence of it being a production without disclosure is the copycats that this will spawn.

Edit: just to add a bit more food-for-thought in response to comments such as, "why do that to your own car?" or "why get sprayed with fart spray": what makes you believe it's their own car (could be a beater picked up for a few hundred dollars) or that the fart spray actually smells?

Re:Ford Buying San Francisco-Area E-Scooter Startup Spin on Thursday November 08, 2018 @01:58PM (#18408874)
I don't think you're making a very compelling justification for bicycling on sidewalks.

Your statistic regarding UK pedestrians being killed/hit vs bicyclists being killed/hit isn't strong as it's probable that nowhere near as many bicyclists choose to ride on the sidewalk as compared to staying in bike lanes and roads. That is, if more bicyclists opted to ride on sidewalks, the incident rate would certainly increase.

Additionally, rationalizing this in terms of the risk towards the bicyclist just comes off as selfish: "I'm not comfortable with the risk I'm facing while bicycling on the roads, therefore I will put pedestrians at risk instead."

Perhaps instead of endangering pedestrians, something more constructive would be to engage politically to improve the situation (maybe you do this already, if so, awesome!).

Re:Apple introduces macOS Mojave on Monday June 04, 2018 @03:53PM (#17231625)
The main difference is that, while you have already been able to change the menu bar and dock to a dark color scheme, the update coming in Mojave allows the window chrome to be dark too (note Finder being dark in the article).
