Hey HN crowd, Deian here from Oh Dear. I do marketing and we took the time yesterday, among many other things dealing with the PHP incident, to look at what has happened to our customers.
We were surprised to see that downtime peaked at 18.8% of the sites we monitor, compared to the 0.9% of the baseline.
What we can establish from our data is that 503 responses increased, but those don’t prove that someone shut down intentionally. Of course, all samples only cover the sites we monitor.
I’d love to get more data from other people, especially those who decided to stay online, or who entered maintenance mode while patches were being worked on.

I came to the same conclusion and built something to solve this pain point on top of having scoped access and tasks, it’s called [Takibi Base](
https://takibibase.com/), a shared knowledge base for AI agents: one human operator keeps source documents, Profiles control what each agent can read, and agents retrieve exact cited passages; Takibi does not generate answers because there’s no LLM at all, you can just use whichever LLM you want instead.
Both Cursor and Grok build ask if you want to resume a session from another harness. Quite brilliant
Yeah I wouldn’t build anything on Google’s products that might not exist in x years
No, just download the Suica app and top it up with Apple pay.
Interesting that you need very expensive hardware to run this…
Oh Dear (
https://ohdear.app/features/scheduled-task-monitoring) has Cron job monitoring and application health monitoring for apps that can send alerts to most platforms, including Slack and webhooks.
What made you build your own over going with one of the established players?
Crazy that the average uptime is below 99%.
Hey Claude, copy XYZ, make no mistakes.
The meme keeps on memeing.
A pity weaker models weren’t tested, also nothing from Mistral. I’d love to see how they compare.

> The one thing I didn't like was that P2P/torrenting is blocked. They claim that to enable torrenting, they would have had to enable logging.
Wait, if Tunnelbear are throttling P2P connections, where is the red flag?
Regarding NordVPN: I’ve used them a few years ago and their service was terrible. Disconnects upon disconnects, servers not working for days — I gave up eventually.
Never tested any other VPN he reviewed, however, I’ve written a guide[1] how to pick a VPN provider without throwing numbers and reviews around me, if anyone wants to give it a read.

Try to get in touch with Damon Baker (@DWBakes). He deals with Indies but should also be able to refer you to the right people.
I know the top model Thinkpads are very durable and are tested under extreme conditions. But those aren’t made from plastic alone as far as I know but use polycarbonate, magnesium, carbon fibre, metal hinges and so on.
Haven’t heard of Solus before. I will check it out.
Reading guides how to choose a laptop for work and travel always seems to contain a few things:
1. it has to be sturdy
2. it should have a good keyboard & trackpad
But what about the software? I’ve come across a lot of people that bought MacBooks only to realise that they actually needed Windows (to run specific software). I don’t think installing Windows on a Mac is a bad idea but why not think about the software first and buy the hardware according to your needs?
What do you think?
