Ask HN: What is a fair rate/salary as a co-founder and student?

I am currently working on a small start-up that I co-founded. There are two members, I focus on technical stuff, my partner focuses on marketing/operations/business. It's important to know that I am an undergrad, and I am working on this project full time through the summer.I have read numerous sources on how you should determine salary in an early stage start up, but it is just too messy to...

And in MOBI format on Kindle, the content seems to be pretty readable - even for technical books with pictures?

Thats great, those are two of the reasons I was looking to get Simple Touch GlowLight; plus it is much lighter than carrier around some books. Unfortunately I am planning to read some technical books as well so I'm hoping someone here can shed some light on how it works on that area.

Ask HN: Do you use an eReader? Why? Why not?

I am trying to decide whether to get one or not, and am curious to hear what every one has to say about them here. I will be reading an array of styles of books, from novels, to technical books on development. So, what are your opinions on eReaders based on your experiences with them?

Ask HN: How do you focus?

I am trying to work on a side project that I have huge motivations to get started on. The problem is, I can't seem to control my focus. I'm trying to read the official Django tutorial right now and my mind wanders and gets off track before I can fully complete one step. I'm doing everything I can to do well at this - I am eating healthy, getting plenty of sleep, eliminating distractions, yet I...

Re:Ask HN: How long should it take to build this web app? on Wednesday May 01, 2013 @07:30PM (#5641494)
Right, what about my level of knowledge of Javascript? Should I spend a few days hitting it really hard just to learn it or is it something I can pick up on the go if I have a background with Python/C++/Java?

That sounds like it would be pretty useful. What would you suggest as far as the database? I plan on using Postgres on Heroku and will be either be using SQLAlchemy or Django's ORM. What would be a good way to approach this problem? I was planning on doing something similar, making a diagram of all of the models/tables I will need, and additionally writing out all of the details of each relationship and possible entities I will need to add in the future.

Ask HN: How long should it take to build this web app?

Hey all,I am a new developer, a first year CS student, and an aspiring entrepreneur. I am building my first "real" web app this summer, and I am just looking for some general guidelines. I really don't know how long it is going to take, and I know a lot of this depends on the experience of the developer. So let me give you a little background on me:I have been programming for about 2 years. I...

Re:Ask HN: What minor/major would compliment a CS degree? on Friday April 12, 2013 @04:22PM (#5540778)
So would you say math/philosophy would be useful in more of a research type position? In that case you would probably need even higher levels of math - so the logic behind philosophy might be useless either way?

Ask HN: What minor/major would compliment a CS degree?

I am looking to tack on a minor to my CS major, and I am curious to hear what opinions you guys have. It would be easy to do a math minor as well, but pure mathematics isn't my thing. Other common majors/minors include IS, physics, statistics, etc..I mainly want to know if you have run into developers with a unique major that has actually benefited them - even if just in a niche area.I am very...

Will I have a chance at building this in 2-3 months?

I want opinions from others who have seen students do startups. I am a first year CS student and this summer I am planning on creating an e-commerce style web app. That is the best way to describe some of the technical challenges, additionally, users/sellers will be able to create accounts, rate sellers, rate products. There is really more to it but from a technical perspective it is comparable...
