If you have a problem to solve and the grit to execute/endure, go the startup route. Do not do this if you’re content to shoot an arrow into a wall and paint a target around it. You can do that at Google.
Launch it, but don’t tell anyone else about it. Ever.
Email + Excel just isn’t efficient if you’ve outgrown a flat-file system and most paper-based processes. That being said, I get your frustration 100%.
The solution: build or befriend a relational database developer that will create a bespoke solution of your dreams. The more difficult part is getting c-level buy in and wading through whatever crap middle management believes to be the flavor of the month.
People. They are the most meaningful part of life and yet, almost always, the most frustrating.
I mean truly exercising freedom - which is the ability to govern oneself. All we can really control is ourselves. Sure, one could be impulsive/reflexive and even reactive, so long as it doesn’t impinge on anyone else’s freedom to govern themselves.
Basecamp my friend. There are others, but Basecamp is probably the most well known.
Does the product add value and work as intended? Cool. Most products designed by committee don’t.
No. The only social duty one has is to govern oneself and cause no harm. All else is nuance.
Productivity assessment isn’t for people, it’s for things. Devs are people, as such:
1. Do they know what they are doing?
2. Does it work?
Simple enough.
Unplug and get outside, get some air, do something real. Pick up a non-tech hobby. It will all help.
Twitter is a time sink at best, and behavior modification at worst.
Not having a Twitter account has added tremendous value to my life.
Stay away from social media and all of the other bullshit distractions in the world. Meditate and work on focusing and concentration. Like others have said, read and write a lot. Put on some ambient chill tunes and get in the zone. Steer clear of chemicals - they don’t help.
Uniquely and by blowing up the ATS bots. Generalists aren’t favored by non-human companies. Don’t waste your time with them. Find your fit and alignment with other individuals. They are out there. Good luck!
11:59 PST is when interview invites are scheduled to be sent out.

Recently, I finished reading Hackers and Painters by PG, so this is going to be blunt, but helpful. You are warned. There is absolutely no surefire way to guarantee that your side-project will ever be anything more than a hobby that pays for
itself. But there are some surefire ways to guarantee that you'll get to failure sooner rather than later.1. Building something in the latest and greatest...
Ommwriter. Beautiful, elegant, and very, very simple.
Any program/seminar/book that sells you success without factoring in luck...which is pretty much all of them.
Reading, experiencing life, balance between mental and physical activities, creative self-expression, trying to view the world from a perspective other than my own.
Now you’re cooking! Conifer looks interesting and the user-provided DB is as well. Both seem like valid ways to potentially provide a greater piece of mind to the SaaS user.
Do you think that most SaaS co.’s wall in the ecosystem from a business standpoint (i.e., price increases) or is it merely a consideration of efficiency?
You're not thinking about this the right way. Check it out:
Most users don't have a problem with a SaaS accessing their data - it's 'what happens when they get bought out or close up shop', etc. The problem is the user having limited access over their own data.
I mentioned VST/AU audio plugins and the ability to do just this. Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/UAD2SatTB38--univers...
So, let a SaaS like Notion have access to your data, but you store it...or it's colocated. If they close up shop or get bought out, your data doesn't disappear because you already have it.

So, a lot of the problem users have with SaaS products is worrying about their data. Why don’t one of you super evil Uber-genius types solve this problem with an intermediary? In the music world, specifically plugins, there are numerous solutions to run your plugins on a separate platform from your DAW, to increase speed and free up processing power. Why not build an intermediary for something...

Currently in SS and have applied to YC W21. Notion + Super.so is fantastic, so that's what I used. Easy, clean, simple. I'm ex-FAANG with two startups under my belt (B2B SaaS and B2C manufacturing for the MI). One failed spectacularly and one became profitable in 10 months. This is my first as a solo-founder. It's pre-MVP.
I would like some feedback on this LP, if you have the time.
Thanks in advance.
It's much more fun to blow up the non-parsing ATS bots!
Avoiding companies that use lingo is the easiest solution.
Spend more time observing and listening. It will make you a better writer.
Hi all, I’ve elaborated on and pivoted to include more information. This is pre-MVP with the sole purpose of whether or not it could solve a problem that many of us have encountered or will encounter.
Thank you again for taking the time to check it out and for providing any/all feedback.
I appreciate it.
It sounds like it didn’t load right. That being said, it is really minimal: a hero header/title, hook, and a call to action at the bottom(Typeform, 2 Q’s).
I appreciate you taking the time to check it out.
