I guess the question is, does the Dunning Krueger effect apply to models? The dumb ones might think they're up to the task.

Re:AI-Written Code Is Still *Your* Code. Are You OK with That?
on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:51AM (#49509822)
I’ve settled on a practice of having the agent write a lesson plan with quizzes for me, for any PR or feature of sufficient size to warrant it. It works pretty well and forces me into a back and forth with the model where I otherwise might be tempted to let it do whatever it wants.
I published a skill and short article on the technique I settled on: https://condour.github.io/lesson-plan-quiz/

Author here. I've come up with a method to inform a developer about the code their agent has created. The gist is - I have the agent create a set of lessons with a quiz at the end of each section, plus a guided code review section at the end. Hopefully some folks will find this helpful!

Re:The Timeless 9 Golden Rules of Debugging
on Monday January 13, 2025 @08:35AM (#42683255)
One good timesaver: debug in the easiest environment that you can reproduce the bug in. For instance, if it’s an issue with a website on an iPad, first see if you reproduce in chrome using the responsive tools in web developer. If that doesn’t work, see if it reproduces in desktop safari. Then the iPad simulator, and only then the real hardware. Saves a lot of frustration and time, and each step towards the actual hardware eliminates a whole category of bugs.

But it’s based on a misunderstanding. Xenomorph just means “alien”— it wouldn’t make any sense for that to be the term for that specific alien, because their existence isn’t common knowledge.

According to a quick googling, this would be enough density for for short range commuter aircraft to become viable.

Solar is getting cheaper by the day, batteries are getting cheaper and more efficient by the day, and there's a ton of money pouring into research. Maybe I'm crazy, but I can see a future, maybe a few decades from now, when power is "too cheap to meter" because of renewables.
Re:Are we going back to the cable days?
on Wednesday August 24, 2022 @07:48AM (#32578096)
The cable subscription has commercials. The experience of time shifting and fast forwarding through commercials is inferior to streaming.
Also, a cable bundle forces you to pay for Fox News, which is primarily funded by carriage fees. They wouldn’t last long on robot insurance ads.

Another factor: office space is expensive. In a past job I remember seeing that the cost for our midtown office was 3000 per month per employee. A company might drastically reduce their costs by having an office that only accommodates some fraction of the staff

I anticipate a hybrid model where most deep work is from home, but certain weeks have employees gather, like for project kickoffs or critical junctures later in the process. Only problem with that is the lack of a stable routine.
