Re:A Markdown File Should Just Open on Thursday October 22, 2026 @05:00AM (#50192969)
Just installed a markdown renderer extension to firefox, then set firefox as the default program for markdown files.

ez, wish the browsers had nice rendering out of the box and registered themselves as a handler though

Maybe just for not spoilers?
I also like how they explained ferromagnetism as being arranged atomic magnets. Magnets all the way down.
First we had AI psychosis, now we have AI schizophrenia
They do. There are two parallel championships. The drivers and constructors championships.

That’s why when Hadjar was off with an injury the Red Bull team got a replacement driver (Liam Lawson from Racing Bulls), because they still want to get as many points for that car in the constructors championship as possible :]

Re:Getting the most out of Opus 5.5 in Claude and Claude Code on Saturday October 03, 2026 @08:19PM (#49949229)
Fable came with a new set of api prices, and a special allowance for subscriptions.

If they did what you suggested either they eat a ton of additional costs, or send a signal to the market that they’re increasing costs more generally.

Also Fable and Opus have different specialties so they really are best presented as different models

Re:Show HN: Rabbit Hole – a daily Wikipedia racing game on Friday September 18, 2026 @06:15AM (#49752258)
Very fun! But I wish I could see a leaderboard so I know if 4 is good or not ;)
I completely agree and this is a pet peeve of mine so it's nice to be validated :]

It seems like it will be fun but my headphones just come in under the activation threshold, but I can't see a way to add some input gain

Here’s one. There are more. Don’t be so naïve as to think any single country is free from these kinds of issues.

I actively avoid using navigation. If I’ve already been there once I’ll just try get there without it.

Sometimes I check the route on Google maps first to get an idea, then close it.

I think navigation is like a muscle and you’ve got to train it.

Though I do like rerouting depending on traffic conditions. I guess in some cities that would basically feel mandatory to use

Re:Defrag98: Windows 98 Disk Defragmenter Simulator Online on Saturday August 29, 2026 @10:21PM (#49495112)
I started the defrag on F and got about 1/4 the way, but had to stop cause my brother wanted to use the family computer.

When I changed it between drives and back I lost my progress :/

Yes, using dice would have prevented this.
Re:Humanising LLM Outputs Is Dumb on Monday August 10, 2026 @07:50PM (#49251443)
That’s an interesting point too. I just don’t think I’m equipped to compartmentalise well enough.

This is why I say please to agents, and I’ll say thank you or good job if I have a follow up.

Chatting with an agent using language feels like talking to an assistant.

I don’t think my meat brain is able to really differentiate between writing a message to an agent versus writing an agent to a human.

I’ll keep being polite and grateful to agents, so that I maintain those social habits for when I talk to humans.

Maybe your complaining wasn’t worth a comment on Hackernews?
Re:Show HN: Brolly, a plain-text weather forecast site on Sunday July 26, 2026 @04:58AM (#49056094)
My only comment is that the time of the report under the date was a little confusing, for a moment I thought that was the current time. Maybe you could add `as at` so it differentiates the time of the observation window versus the current time?

I'll try using this as my go to over the next week :) thank you for making this.

Re:Japanese symbols that speak without words on Monday June 22, 2026 @09:30PM (#48639016)
The fact you’ve got to learn them doesn’t negate the statement that they communicate without words.

All language has to be learned
