Google's sitespeed tool only has a, usually quite small, 'sample' of your speed time.

Increasingly you get led down an endless paper trail of showing documentation, code reviews & ccra is now in the business of sicking auditors on claims to aggressively deny them. Wasted time & headaches.

Many people miss a main point of Objectivism that sacrificing & helping others makes a person happy too. Hence you should do so in pursuing your best interests.

I think it gets left out as many feel they're coerced to do it now.

I bought the ebook version of Running Lean... it had quite a few diagrams that are quite useless in that form. I imagine business books with lots of diagrams. This might suffer from the ebook format too.

Lean startup SaaS tools bundling for cost is an idea I'm vetting now: leanmeanbundlemachine.com

Ask HN: Any Interest in Bundled Lean Startup Tools?

I'm wondering if anyone on HN, developing a web biz, would be interested in bundled pricing on Lean Startup tools. I recently started to apply Running Lean techniques to an existing product with tools recommended in the book of the same name. Even with revenue the overall cost adds up quick.Example tools could be prefinery, kissinsights, kissmetrics, mailchimp, etc etc. & might be mix &...

Having read some of the comments already I vote heartily for radiant heating floors, green tech which does not cause more maintenance proceedures/confusion for next buyer, proper amounts of electrical plugs (id put them in the floor in the main living areas or at least at the very base of the floor molds. Lots of houses have ethernet cabling... I think you're safe with that. Air exchanges aren't sexy, but awesome.

hack summer - partly screened in deck/porch from mosquitos are wonderful.

Hey cellis, thanks. What I see in cases where we come up higher in SERPs is that the crawler just hasn't found the best content in google groups yet, if ever. I scratch my head over that one too, but ours is not to reason why. I don't see the index pointing to the same content in the landing pages typically either with my queries.

UI: LOL, yeah, it's a toss up here whether to make it prettier or keep it a bit old school.

as replied up the thread...

[I run osdir.com] Just to be clear we're not scraping content nor SEOing to death. We've been running our mailing list archive for almost 8 years.

To quote Matt_Cutts somewhere else in this thread: 'because USENET/mailing lists don't always have a centralized/canonical location on the web, which makes dupe content more of a potential issue. It's not the usual "Website X copied my website" scenario.'

If you dislike us that's cool, but just know we're not showing in your SERPs because of scraping & SEO trickery. A lot of people, maybe not you, really are finding their answer there. There's a lot of solid answers in inboxes.

youtube scaled on serverbeach. 'nuff said frankly.

I however would do AWS without question. (already on AWS, was on serverbeach - loved them though)

Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @03:44PM (#229008)
I'm looking for someone who creates cool apps to develop them in my company. If they're a hit we spin them out.
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @03:29PM (#228987)
Interesting. I am willing to do exactly this if more feedback comes in supporting it vs what I'm currently proposing. Thanks Tony.
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:33PM (#228929)
Gotcha. I'm hoping to flesh our more details from feedback.
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:30PM (#228922)
My feeling and experience has been that you have to iterate through enough ideas until you find one that actually works. Good ideas fail too.
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:29PM (#228917)
I'm adding info from feedback. This is a new idea for me so it's difficult to anticipate what people want to know.

Also, I'm not exactly stupid, just willing to take a risk.

Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:24PM (#228905)
LOL no. Just someone who hasn't a lot of pre-conceived ideas of what is/isn't possible. We have those already. LOL
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:23PM (#228903)
What do you get out of it?: Great products/apps What do you require of said hacker?: Build Interesting Stuff Do want partial ownership or just someone to bounce ideas off of?: Partial Ownership. What do you mean by in-residence combined with we-don't-care-where-you-live? It means you're a part of our existing company charged with acting & creating like an entrepreneur. Basically you get a salary to work on your cool ideas.
Re:Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence on Thursday June 26, 2008 @02:12PM (#228885)
Indeed. Finishing is a key characteristic.

Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence

I run a small, but successful Web1.0 company, but am looking for a new bright spark as Hacker Entrepreneur in Residence. What’s that? All the fun of a startup without all the risk. YC folks who don't want VC might be interested.inevitable.cc or http://tinyurl.com/5hr434

Re:Ask YC: Stopping bots at proxy server level on Thursday June 19, 2008 @08:53PM (#222331)
Answer (not YC provided): nginx passes IPs in X-Real-IP HTTP header. If your bot trap is not customizable, you can set up mod_rpaf Apache module on app instance.

Ask YC: Stopping bots at proxy server level

I'm trying to block bad bots/spider on my app server. I'm using nginx as a reverse proxy though and so the IP that appears to my app server is always the proxy. How can I either capture the actual browser's IP on the app server -or- start stopping bad bots/spiders (not Google or adsense's bot) at the reverse proxy level?

My ec2 instances are up.
Avoid any chair with arm rests which stick out to far foward and don't allow you to get close enough to your keyboard without having to lift your shoulders/elbows.
Re:Ask YC: MacBook Black vs. MacBook Air on Thursday May 29, 2008 @07:50AM (#203202)
Being unsure of the specs I bought an Air at a local big box store so I could bring it back later if I was unhappy. I did. -no power-
Re:Ask YC: Best Place to Sell a Website/Domains? on Tuesday May 27, 2008 @07:08AM (#200868)
What do the high profile sites sell for? 10x monthly revenue or more than that?

As someone who visits infrequently I've only seen 10x monthlies which seems ridiculous for a high profile site.

I would define a high profile site as any with a long existence, tons of traffice - but still off the radar, & consistent revenue... or some super flash in the pan breakthrough site like twitter (new & no rev).
