Why not both?
I think this is the only business model that makes sense, monetarily, for current LLM CapEx and OpEx. The value is not in what it can do for consumers or how much money it makes, but how it can shape consumers through knowledge control. Think of how much a totalitarian government would pay to keep citizens from thinking certain things.
Re:Early 2000s were peak of humanity on Monday August 31, 2026 @09:48AM (#49509789)
Isn't this the central conceit behind "The Matrix"? lol
I went on a grand jury in early 2025, and it was eye opening to see that under my state's laws the "smell of weed" is enough to justify a traffic stop and search of a vehicle.
You'd probably have to embody it.
It's definitely the principle of least privilege applied to network access.
SSD installs were, for the longest time, the single best ROI on upgrading a laptop. I think a SATA SSD in that 2012 bad boy could considerably boost its performance.
I agree, but the incentives for Alphabet to encourage content like this isn't there. The content that is encouraged is that which keeps eyeballs glued to YouTube.
But it is. For the savvy user you can run whatever you want on an android device.
Re:Go is my hammer, and everything is a nail on Monday August 12, 2024 @10:56AM (#41225150)
Just from an ergonomic standpoint it's a million times easier to deploy a go binary instead of a whole jvm and a jar file.
I can't think of a historian, skeptic, or sci-fi author who's had a level of power enough to disprove your statement.
Re:I made a note taking plugin for a PHP app in 2024 on Monday May 06, 2024 @10:33AM (#40275171)
Some folks had asked me to post this in a comment on a Kanboard thread, so I thought I'd just post it as a new submission. Enjoy!

You have to balk when anyone says that anybody is the same person they were 24 years ago.
Re:Embed Crystal code directly in Ruby on Thursday April 11, 2024 @08:12AM (#40001282)
That's a very Ruby idea.
It's plug-in system is quite comprehensive. I just finished writing a note taking plug-in and the source code itself was a great reference for developing a plug-in.
Re:Why Is Panera Exempted from California's New Minimum Wage Law? on Wednesday February 28, 2024 @04:05PM (#39543405)
I think some franchisees will sell day-old loaves for fifty cents. Some gen-x YouTuber was using it as a cheap food source in college back in the day.
Re:React Labs: What We've Been Working On – February 2024 on Tuesday February 27, 2024 @07:17AM (#39523154)
Most of the core React devs are employees at Vercel. As much as you may not like it, core parts of React are driven by Vercel 's business model.
Re:GitHub Actions as a time-sharing supercomputer on Thursday January 11, 2024 @01:05PM (#38956067)
Definitely validates the mainframe architecture though doesn't it?
Re:Practising Programming on Tuesday January 09, 2024 @10:08AM (#38927008)
At the same time, it used to be expected you would learn to program a computer you bought. So much so, that operating systems shipped with BASIC and a language manual. That is not the case today, but I guess software doesn't ship in the same ways it used to either.
Practically all of Activision's PS2 era catalog falls under this banner. We only recently got re-releases of their Star Trek stuff and a lot of their Marvel/movie tie-in games are MIA.
Re:Was BASIC that horrible or better? on Saturday December 23, 2023 @12:48PM (#38746253)
I think most tech companies rely on ignorance to sell their "simple" solutions. If everyone could solve their own problems their own way, then nobody would buy "simple" solutions.
Re:Baldur's Gate 3 Wins Game of the Year at the Game Awards on Friday December 08, 2023 @06:06AM (#38567596)
The only thing missing now is a modding community ala Neverwinter Nights. Then BGIII can truly be the heir apparent to the infinity engine/bioware legacy!
Re:Playstation keeps reminding us why digital ownership sucks on Wednesday December 06, 2023 @01:25PM (#38547674)
Digital ownership seems like a wonderful use case for blockchain technology, and it baffles me that there hasn't been a DRM company yet that's jumped on this idea.
Sexual selection certainly does. Eggs being expensive and sperm being cheap kind of make winners necessary.

Re:8BitDo Micro on Monday October 30, 2023 @05:16PM (#38075987)
TBH, I've been thinking about these for my young kids. The small size is a plus in that regard.
TBH, that stat seems low.
There's a great write up on how to proxy/multiplex rtmp streams with nginx on the OBS forums.

https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/obs-studio-stream-to-...

Edit: That one is newer and maybe more useful. Here's the one I had used before. https://obsproject.com/forum/resources/how-to-set-up-your-ow...

That would require the dismantling or restructuring of malpractice law and litigation. The reason a doctor is required to be present is so that an individual can be held responsible to their Hippocratic oath when patients get litigious. Non-board certified staff, AFAIK, don't need to take a Hippocratic oath nor do they need to carry the burden of insurance the same way a doctor or nurse practitioner does.
