Re:Ask HN: Do you still use MongoDB? on Friday May 22, 2020 @07:32AM (#23270959)
Yes, we do at WaystoCap. It's our main DB. I like it mostly for the flexibility. I think it's one of the best DBs when you're in pre-product market fit stage and making a lot of changes to the data model.

One of the main cons I've experienced with it, is it's beginner friendly nature and docs leads you to have a non-optimal data schema for No-SQL. Like even the way it does pagination with Skip, is not the performant way to do it.

As areas in our business mature and scale we suffer bottlenecks and have pretty big changes to optimize those areas of the data model.

Books on the north would be good for me. Anything economies or about business there. Very happy to read anything you recommend about life in general there.

Re:Ask HN: How would you turn Twitter around? on Tuesday February 28, 2017 @01:12PM (#13756056)
One thing for sure, I would remove posting privileges from the API.

Yes it is a bold move. It has a great platform ecosystem but the amount of automation you can do is what removes the value from the platform. For example, followers mean nothing anymore and auto-DMs from people I recently followed is an Ah-NO moment.

Instagram and LinkedIn have kept POSTing out of their API for the most part. One reason (of the many) they are thriving is because people know it's all handmade engagement.

We created https://wealthhackers.net for consumer side fintech news. We quietly launched it yesterday.
Re:Ask HN: What book have you given as a gift? on Monday August 08, 2016 @05:46AM (#12246491)
Eric Fromm's The Art of Loving.

It's my grandmas favorite non-fiction and she's read over 1000 books. She gave it to me and it sat on my shelf for months because the title wasn't appealing and I'm not a big book reader. Since I read it, I've now bought a second version of this book and give it to friends to read.

It's a technical write-up about Love in the general sense. Fromm pitches the idea that love is an art rather than a feeling.

I highly recommend the read. This book discusses the topic in a serious and insightful way.
