Re:JetBrains IDEs are now powered by libghostty on Tuesday October 27, 2026 @05:11PM (#50265870)
In 2026.2.2, I have Tools / Terminal / Reworked 2025 selected but the font selection seems buggy. It doesn't allow me to pick several fixed width fonts, including the one I use in the main editor, and there are no weight settings.

Ghostty didn't have issues with the same font, not sure what the problem is.

Perhaps I should have linked to the Reuters version instead; it was covered widely:

"Capital One has never accused the Trump Organization of illegal money laundering. But Friday's filing argues that "documents and Plaintiffs’ own allegations make clear that Capital One closed Plaintiffs’ accounts for anti-money laundering (“AML”) reasons"

from

https://www.reuters.com/legal/government/capital-one-says-it...

Other points:

* Capital One says anti-money laundering review prompted closure of more than 300 Trump-affiliated accounts

* Trump Organization and Eric Trump sued in March 2025, alleging political debanking

Notice "political debanking" :)

Paywalled, but I wonder if its really retaliation for this:

"Trump bank accounts were closed due to concerns over possible money laundering, Capital One says"

Re:AI Can Write the Code. Who Verifies It? on Saturday October 17, 2026 @04:34PM (#50134883)
Wouldn't the cost to fix something in production be expensive, because many things won't be reported until one of your users got pissed off enough to report it (hopefully accurately) enough to fix?

In other words, you are shifting cost onto users doing your QA now.

Thanks for the heads-up on Textual!
Re:IRCv3 on Sunday October 11, 2026 @12:06PM (#50044744)
Tried Halloy on macOS for ~6mos, has some serious issues ...

(1) It silently disconnects from the server without indication, and does not reconnect. You might assume it is connected, until you send a message and see "message can not be sent". You will lose conversation history unless using a bouncer. Clicking around, all the buffers will clear indicating some major state issue, and you will have to restart it.

(2) Consistently uses ~5% CPU doing nothing at all.

(3) Doesn't behave like a macOS app, pressing the red "close window" button will close the window, but the main process goes ANR.

After leaving Textual since that was discontinued, guess I'm looking for a macOS IRC client again. Might give Mango a try.

Re:An Update on Orion for Linux and Windows on Saturday October 03, 2026 @01:11PM (#49945990)
I don't get the impression Mozilla puts much effort into Firefox on macOS - whether its performance, or fitting in UX wise. So it's nice to have another browser on macOS that can run uBo.
Re:Price Increases for 2GB Raspberry Pi 4 and Raspberry Pi 5 on Thursday October 01, 2026 @01:00PM (#49924225)
The RPI Zero 2 has micro-USB ports ... there are plenty of reasons given for this, which arguably made sense 5 years ago. I'm not sure about 2026 though.
Re:The new Firefox design is here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:30AM (#49893968)
Don't feel sad or sorry :) There are other options, like Orion that runs uBo just fine. I haven't used it enough to say either way though.
Re:The new Firefox design is here on Tuesday September 29, 2026 @10:03AM (#49893489)
I gave it a few minutes of trial and then disabled it.

With memory prices increasing, many people unable to afford new machines, and web browsers being one of those things that can potentially take a lot of system resources, I wish the Firefox team would prioritize CPU and memory performance of the core engine for users with lots of tabs.

I have stuff like 'Auto tab discard' installed but it seems to break other things, like 'Close Duplicate Tabs'.

This devkit does look fun. I had a few small personal projects I though might be worth writing for Android Wear OS, but Google isn't worth the hassle, and this little ESP32 Watch might be less friction.
Re:Musk, the Movie on Monday September 28, 2026 @12:29AM (#49873652)
Reading that, it sounds even worse...

> A YouTube spokesperson said the ad should be appearing soon, though as of late Saturday morning Bleecker Street has not yet been informed of any change.

> The Meta reversal is especially notable as the company had previously rejected an appeal by Bleecker Street, leaving it with few options to run ads on Instagram and Facebook.

> TikTok and X have remained quiet and continue not to run the ad.

One thing I would like is a tree-like chat structure like reddit / HN. Many times I abandon the direction things have gone but would like to resume at some ancestor or sibling response.
Re:iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 on Monday September 14, 2026 @04:59PM (#49703916)
I was on Sequoia as well, and just updated ... first thing I noticed is LaunchPad is gone.

The Tahoe Dock "App View" / Spotlight just lists my 30 installed apps intermingled with Apple System Apps, which I hardly ever use. Hard coded categories, no way to re-order as far as I can tell.

Seems like the closest thing to LaunchPad is dragging ~/Applications to the Dock.

The other thing I have noticed is scrolling in Firefox is more choppy, and animations are more Janky than Sequoia on this old MacBook Air M1.

Re:Homebrew 7.0.0 on Sunday September 13, 2026 @12:09PM (#49685556)
I don't know anything about homebrew, but have a question ...

I see some parallels between homebrew and Gradle ... for the longest time Gradle was using Groovy for build scripts. The Gradle / Groovy build script DSL was a little too magic and dynamically typed. It looked cute, but led to issues in developer UX (awful stack traces), tooling (documentation and autocomplete), robustness, and performance.

There are other reasons why Gradle is moving away from Groovy. I suspect that the number of people that use and know Groovy is steadily declining. Declarative Gradle, which is the future, is not Turing complete.

I can't help but notice the parallels between Gradle / Groovy and Homebrew / Ruby: using a dynamically typed Ruby DSL with Turing completeness like the olden Gradle ways, and Ruby is declining in popularity like Groovy.

I would have to imagine at some point, the people who know Ruby well enough to create / debug formulae will dwindle. What are the plans?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a dumb watch (<$100 USD) that has good programmability (flexible alarms) for a HIIT protocol? It would be nice if it had HRM but at that price point, maybe not feasible.

I don't want the fuss or expense of an Android or Apple watch. Garmin makes some nice models but they are still relatively expensive.

Can anyone take a guess how they are monitoring financial activity?

Re:Google WeatherNext 3 on Monday September 07, 2026 @09:22PM (#49604669)
Same here, if its raining Windy.com radar will always show it, but often Google Weather does not show it, despite saying its updated "now". Sometimes it seems to be a tiling issue, where there will be a blob of rain on the map but cut off at some boundary over the forecast area.

> We now add Lysol laundry sanitizer

I do as well for super stinky clothes (usually trail running stuff), but I am not sure how worried we should be about the active ingredients (quats). Since I can smell Lysol's fragrance, I assume some of those quats must be left behind as well.

Not just their coding products. Compare Claude Desktop / ChatGPT Classic to Gemini Desktop... Gemini desktop is barbaric with less usability / polish and more UI bugs than its online web counterpart.

I wasn't able to give the new ChatGPT desktop app a try because it insists on phone number for the registration flow even though I'm using a free tier.

Ya, I noticed that with the CoreS3-SE being incompatible with the "Extension Port Module for Core2" (M123). I don't see a version compatible with the CoreS3.
