React using Remix (https://remix.run/)

I’ve used it for nearly 2 years in production

Highly recommend this video if want a good primer on the problem it solves: https://youtu.be/95B8mnhzoCM?si=EzKwMLbJW2602PJI

It’s built by the team that created the popular react router library, which has over a billion downloads since it was published;

It brought the joy of programming back for me, but more importantly it solves lots of typical headaches in react and helps me ship faster and with right amount of abstraction and levers to pull

If you’ve used react router, all that knowledge transfers over, if you have a react SPA with react router, very little to learn

IMO, it’s quite simple, enough that several SRE & traditionally pure backend teams at my company have adopted it for building their own internal tools & UIs

Ask HN: Ways to break into CS research without a formal education/degree?

As a basis for discussion: - Does anyone know stories of people without degrees or PHD’s doing research work in their respective fields (submitting co-authoring papers etc)? - If so, what their journey was like? - What other organizations have research teams besides Amazon, MSFT, Google? Some experiences of breaking into “researchy” roles & teams: - **Friend at Microsoft Research**...

Nothing super particular at this time, but generally: In the past I've wanted to spin up something like ElasticSearch in a desktop or mobile app. I really love the SQLite model of a simple file. This type of just dealing with a file has grown in popularity recently. See [rqlite](https://github.com/rqlite/rqlite) and [HN:Consider SQLite](https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=29727707)

Where does full text search fall into the picture / current query language? Do I need to drop down to writing SQL for that?

When do you drop down to SQL / where does the boundary end for edgeQL?

Typescript, React & Posgres or SQLite. I’m really enjoying Remix.run. It’s shares some commonalities with SvelteKit & NextJS. . This is subjective of course, but I enjoy how in Remix there is only 1 way to fetch data, which I believe is simpler mental model & way to get started with or work with:

“The fundamental difference here is that Next.js has four "modes" for getting data on the page: (1)getInitialProps - called server and client side (2)getServerSideProps - called server (3) getStaticProps - called at build time (4)client fetching - called in the browser with Remix there is only 1 called loader”

If you curate your twitter using Twitter’s “List” feature you can create some great productive feeds

I’ve been using it for 3-4 years, I recommend checking it out if you haven’t

I use it to curate my tech news. Some example lists I have - Data Visualization - systems programming - Frontend engineering - NodeJS - Databases - Dev Conferences - etc.. -

Patterns.dev is free book on design patterns and component patterns for building powerful web apps with vanilla JavaScript and React. 435 pages of rich text and visuals
Awesome comparison! I believe both Atom & Visual Studio Code will only get faster over time.

I've been using Atom for over a year and it has made great strides over the last few months. I don't have any problems opening large repos or files now, as much as I did a few months ago.

I use VScode for personal projects & it's fast and awesome as well.

I linked your comparison in one my detailed Quora posts comparing Atom & Sublime --> https://www.quora.com/How-does-Atom-compare-with-Sublime-Tex...

For those who want a quick look at the state of Atom today & it's packages I made a video covering the top frontend and backend packages for Atom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFAzqvYoHJs

Or here's a small blog post I made: http://cliffordfajardo.com/2016/atom-editor-review/
