Ask HN: Is there a virtual receptionist service for my personal phone?

I would like to pay a human to answer calls to my cell phone and just send me an email of who it was and what they wanted.I don't need a full blown personal assistant, I just hate answering my phone.I am aware of several call answering services, but all the ones I have found are set up for customers calling businesses, and tend to glitch out when people who know you personally call expecting to...

Tim Poole was gunning a bit hard here. I actually came out of this feeling better about Twitter.
Wouldn’t an attacker only have to manage to bruteforce 2 of the hashes in order to discover this pepper, which would just be the text that is common between them?

Ask HN: How to keep your side projects going after you die?

I have a couple side projects that generate income without much interaction beyond paying my hosting bills and keeping packages updated. This doesn't require much technical knowledge, but is likely beyond what any of my next of kin would be equipped for.I've made some arrangements on the financial side to ensure that ownership transfers properly and automated payments so long as income >...

Anyone have an opinion on which (if any) legal entity provides the best ratio of benefit : hassle for a smallish Open Source project that wants to accept donations, likely in multiple currencies (including crypto ones)?501c3 seems like a big pain in the ass as far as paperwork, directors, etc.An LLC actually looks like a reasonable option, but perhaps I'm missing something there.Just not form...

This is great News!
Agree, this would get you kicked from an AOL chatroom. A heuristic I still find useful for some reason.
TFW the first comment is more substantive than the article it's about.
He has some valid complaints, as did Ted Kaczynski. Dropping out of the world seems as unlikely to make anything better as blowing up random people.

Excel spreadsheet on a highly secure, intranet-only SMB share. Not even joking.
Can we fork religion to support this feature pls?
It's funny/scary how much less sophisticated we humans are than how imagine ourselves to be.

Whomp
Since world class engineers are perfectly distributed throughout the population regardless of age, sex, race, education, interest, and geography, it is a travesty that Google doesn't look like a random sample of Americans.

You should just drop packets from badguys unless you are planning on great-cannon-of-chinaing something using 301s. `--reject-with tcp-tarpit` may slow this down but it's probably not worth it if they have 10,000 IPs since that sounds like it's probably comming from a rotating proxy "service."
