Re:U.S. and Israel Conduct Strikes on Iran on Saturday February 28, 2026 @04:06AM (#47192601)
Please don't put words in my mouth. At no point did I say we should attack Israel.

I firmly believe we should ignore them entirely. Engage neither positively or negatively.

Why are you presenting this dichotomy of "Either we are at war with an Islamic state or we are at war with a Jewish state"? Both wars are completely unnecessary and harmful to American interests.

Re:U.S. and Israel Conduct Strikes on Iran on Saturday February 28, 2026 @03:30AM (#47192287)
I don't think it's "over-simplistic". I consider it "morally clear".

A model for global terrorism and control.

So we agree that in both cases we should not be allies with such a nation. Glad we came to consensus on this.

I don't think an ethnostate is capable of providing value to the world.

I'm old enough to have purchased an Open Pandora and seriously considered """"pre-ordering"""" a Dragonbox Pyra. I'm so glad I decided to hold off until launch because well would you look at the time! It's been twelve years.

I was hoping absl::Cleanup would get a shoutout. I worked hard to make it ergonomic and performant. For those looking for something (imo) better than the standard types, check it out!
Re:Ask HN: Who wants to be hired? (December 2025) on Monday December 01, 2025 @07:13PM (#46115492)

    Location: United States (Eastern Timezone)
    Citizenship: United States
    Remote: Yes
    Willing to relocate: No
    Technologies: (C/C++, Abseil), (Javascript/Typescript, React, Next.js, Node.js), (AWS)
    Résumé/CV: https://linkedin.com/in/~cj
    Email: Please add me on LinkedIn and send a message. I try my best to be responsive.
I'm looking at getting into software consulting/contracting. I've tried my hand at it before a bit (was a contractor for Google) but have not had the opportunity to explore independent gigs. As a result, I'm pretty flexible on pay and structure as I'm essentially just starting out in the space.

My background is a mix of C++ library development and full stack JS/TS. I'm quite fond of React and as of late I've gotten into AWS CLI via Claude Code. Please refer to my Linkedin for my work history (Google/Alphabet, Hudson River Trading/HRT, Facebook/Meta, Snapchat/Snap and others).

If you're looking for someone to do low level C++ work or high level Javascript/Typescript work, I'd love to chat and see if we can find a short or medium term contract that satisfies both parties.

Alternatively, I'm open to full time positions, but remote is a must. Thank you!

Puts a smile on my face!
What a deeply ignorant statement
Re:Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++ on Tuesday August 05, 2025 @03:39PM (#44803215)
Well for one, in addition to templates it has definition checked generics. That alone justifies it to me, but it's far from the only improvement.
Re:Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++ on Thursday July 31, 2025 @03:47PM (#44749368)
How is it inconsistent? The square brackets always mean "this was deduced" and the parens always indicate "this was passed in explicitly"
Re:Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++ on Thursday July 31, 2025 @03:46PM (#44749351)
Square brackets do not indicate "this is a type". Instead they indicate "these things were deduced from their context"
Re:Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++ on Thursday July 31, 2025 @03:45PM (#44749343)
Splendid reply! I'm a big fan of Carbon and so I really appreciate when people make solid arguments for its tradeoff space.

It seems the music note emoji were stripped out. The first line is a quote from one of her songs.

In my Tennessee mountain home, life is as peaceful as a baby's side

As an East Tennessee native, I love everything Dolly Parton!

Did you read the article?
It hasn't been released yet, but I'm very excited for Carbon :)
Re:Swiss Tables on Friday February 21, 2025 @12:24PM (#43130261)
I always get excited when I see Abseil related things online. I was a member of the team from 2018 until 2022 and had a blast getting to learn from the best.
