Re:How will the US implement a ban of WeChat? on Friday September 18, 2020 @08:42AM (#24515938)
Supposedly the US will ban WeChat on Sunday. How would that be implemented? An order to Apple and Google to remove from the app stores? What about existing downloads?
Re:Ask HN: Sold my Apple Watch: Quadcopter or 3D printer? on Wednesday November 04, 2015 @03:06PM (#10509235)
I never thought of making parts for the quadcopter with the printer. That's amazing.

After reading on HN about the miners in England yesterday, it's difficult to generate too much sympathy for your situation.

I hope that you translate your passion into using technology to truly help make the world a better place.

Ask HN: What happened to clean tech?

10 or so years ago clean-tech was going to be the next big thing. A bunch of VC funds created dedicated clean-tech funds. It seems like the underlying premise of needing more clean energy never changed. So, what happened? Why did clean-tech seem to fizzle?

Re:Ask HN: What is the most important tech trend? on Tuesday May 12, 2015 @08:12AM (#9531111)
Providing services to the next billion internet users sounds like a big opportunity. I wonder if the solutions will be similar to what worked in the developing world or entirely new.

Ask HN: What is the most important tech trend?

I launched my first startup 6 years ago and arguably the most important trend was the adoption of mobile. I focused my company on this and quickly grew and sold my company. Now I am trying to figure out what the most important tech related trend will be during the next 5 years.Virtual Reality? Drones? 3d printing? Bitcoin?

How many of you made it through this article without getting interrupted? I only made it about 1/3 the way before I received 3 different text messages.
Re:Ask HN: Any resources for solving the chicken-egg problem? on Wednesday January 28, 2015 @08:36AM (#8959678)
One solution is lots of money so that you can buy your way into both marketplaces quickly.

A better solution as jchung pointed out is to narrow your scope until you have enough resources to create a great market. For example:

USA -> California -> Bay Area -> Stanford -> One Dorm

Do you think they would use cookies to track usage? If so, I'm predicting that many more people will learn how to clear their NYT cookies.
In my opinion, Fixed income investments like Bonds & CDs are incredibly risky in our current economic climate. If interest rates rise or inflation increases then these investments can loose a great deal of their value. Also there is always a risk of default.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I really appreciate the feedback.

Ask HN: Python vs. PHP

I developed my website using PHP and I believe that PHP could handle all of the features that I have on my product roadmap. However, now I as I look for additional resources I feel that most talented developers would prefer coding in Python instead of PHP.What do you think? Is it worth transitioning to Python in order to get better developers excited?

Re:Ask YC: Do you test your site? on Tuesday June 24, 2008 @01:38PM (#226524)
I've used A/B and multivariate testing at multiple companies. It can be incredibly helpful in optimizing a product.

I would suggest however to focus on building a solid base product first and then optimizing it.

For web the google web optimizer works ok and its free. There is a Boston startup called Sitespect who I've used in the past as well, which has a more robust platform. I can introduce you to them if you want.
