gitkraken also has an undo button
Re:Servers as they should be – shipping early 2022 on Wednesday May 26, 2021 @05:45PM (#27296502)
Your approach to pay is really refreshing and attractive as an engineer, and also seems like the exact type of thing most VC or larger tech firms would really hate. That alone feels like evidence of your conviction
Re:Open-source RGB lighting control for keyboards, fans, etc on Monday January 04, 2021 @12:15PM (#25634444)
If you're in this thread "I built a PC, all my stuff has RGB, it's fine but I don't get it", try setting them all to the same color - you might be surprised how nice it looks. I set everything to white, but my roommate has a nice shade of purple he uses for everything. My real golden rule is absolutely no motion. Can't stand cycling rainbows or whatever.
Re:App Review process updates on Monday August 31, 2020 @01:32PM (#24333817)
Yeah, why provide an API to disable the minimize button if they're going to reject your app for using it
Re:Cloudflare was down on Friday July 17, 2020 @06:41PM (#23876835)
lmao it even took down my local stack
That's so interesting! I think the fact that they nail the tech so well makes it intuitively surprising that it didn't come first. Not pixar but similarly, when I saw the siggraph talk where Disney Animation showed off how they do snow rendering in Frozen I wondered whether the tech came first
Re:Questions to ask a company during a job interview on Monday September 09, 2019 @06:56PM (#20923400)
> I think the way a team/company handles an unusual high-stress situation is in many ways telling of the team/company dynamic in general

What sorts of signals do you look for in these answers?

Re:15 states are trying to make the electoral college obselete on Wednesday August 21, 2019 @04:37PM (#20761477)
Right now it's the opposite

> People who want to get away from the ~big cities~ small towns and live a different kind of life with different priorities (and different legislative interests), shouldn't be totally shut out, should they? Even though I live in a ~giant urban area~ rural area, I wouldn't want to feel pressured to due so due to lack of political stake if I move elsewhere.

who's to say one direction is more important than the other? At least if we ditch the electoral college, individual voices always have the same volume

Re:Sunsetting Mercurial Support in Bitbucket on Tuesday August 20, 2019 @08:45AM (#20746288)
I don't agree with the assessment that betamax was superior. Sure it had more advanced technology, but it was too expensive and much more complicated - it fit the business requirements of a home video system poorly

Re:What to Know Before Debating Type Systems (2008) on Friday May 03, 2019 @09:09PM (#19823613)
I think reposting is fine, I just think it'd be nice to have a list of previous discussions because I like reading them
Re:Anki Shutting Down on Wednesday May 01, 2019 @03:00PM (#19800486)
Honestly their toys always seemed really cool, but I'm surprised this didn't come sooner. They were _really_ expensive, which was justified by how advanced the tech was sure, but to a certain point most people just don't want to spend that much money on a toy
Re:Show HN: WAPM – Package Manager for WebAssembly on Tuesday April 23, 2019 @06:00PM (#19733379)
They say the registry info is available via API, so perhaps a simple bash script that calls curl would suffice
I think we have a ways to go. Typescript's type system is very feature complete (which is a good thing, but it also means there's a lot to learn, and I feel like I have to think about type definitions more than I ever did with other languages), but also, fantastic libraries like Ramda have a lot of trouble with expressing their types with Typescript. It's a tough problem to solve, and I still use both, but I'm just saying we're not there yet.

You can place the objects on the kraken!
I prefer simple tools.

- Heroku is cheap for personal projects. - A single Digital Ocean droplet where you manage everything yourself, is cheap for personal projects. - If you're working in node, Glitch.com is literally free node hosting

Re:Announcing flicker-free boot for Fedora 29 on Tuesday October 02, 2018 @06:33PM (#18126278)
My custom build shows the motherboard logo at the correct resolution immediately on POST and never has to mode switch even through grub. It flashes off and on to load the nvidia proprietary drivers, but never has to do so when I boot to windows.
Are you arguing that these companies have their monopolies because of regulation?
Re:CLI: Improved on Thursday August 30, 2018 @05:35PM (#17881000)
ZSH's z plugin does the same thing. Highly recommended for the ZSH users out there!

There is some empirical research that our attention spans are degrading on average. I don't have any of it handy, but there's a great book I had to read back in high school called "The Shallows" by Nicholas Carr that goes into it.
Re:Dugout Loop on Thursday August 16, 2018 @01:53AM (#17772266)
They keep calling it public transportation, but say it will be funded by the boring company?

So is it going to be publicly owned and privately operated?

Re:MacOS System 6, Version 6.0.8: run in browser on Sunday August 12, 2018 @05:41AM (#17743682)
Surely, such file browser can't be that hard to develop as a user space application, right? I mean there are explorer alternatives on windows, a plethora of GUI file browsers on linux, and I have no idea but I can only assume there's at least one finder alternative on mac. I wonder why this hasn't been done yet.
Re:Ronald Wayne, the third co-founder of Apple on Monday August 06, 2018 @02:11AM (#17695411)
Rumor has it his brother, Bruce, was fairly successful as well, though nobody seems to know what he actually does...
Re:GUIs Considered Harmful (1992) on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @05:10AM (#17660816)
This continues to be the feature that keeps me using macos for work - the search field in the help menu searches all the menu options, each of which displays its own shortcut key beside it
Re:GUIs Considered Harmful (1992) on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @05:04AM (#17660781)
and, importantly, they can still pick up the metaphors even if they don't understand english (or the language of preference) very well. MAN pages often require really really good language skills in the given language to understand.
Re:GUIs Considered Harmful (1992) on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @04:59AM (#17660748)
I'll pass the feedback along!
Re:GUIs Considered Harmful (1992) on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @04:56AM (#17660726)
I think he's implying it's built in by default? I personally have never observed it, but I don't really use powershell so maybe I'm doing something wrong
Re:GUIs Considered Harmful (1992) on Wednesday August 01, 2018 @04:50AM (#17660684)
