Nothing I say changes that — only the work does.

This has to be the least reliable $200/mo subscription that I pay for.
Re:Apple won't let me show my app on Friday July 24, 2026 @02:24PM (#49039711)
If you're ever in the position this developer is in where

"Communicating the idea has always been difficult for this app, and I am happy with my latest attempt through the new screenshots I created."

Then your app either has no value, is too difficult to explain the value, or your communication skills are poor. Whatever the case may be, this might not be the job for you.

Whenever I'm sharing my resume, my LinkedIn, or applying for a job, I've found the process of entering or editing my work experience both time-consuming and unpleasant. I've also sent out-of-date resumes on more than one occasion, and was baffled there wasn't an easier way to always have a recent one available at the click of a button.I've built a better way to handle these pain points (I...

No normal human being is asking this as a first question.
This is awesome! I use the iOS notes app in a kludgy/txt way. This is so much better. Great work getting this out there!
Re:Real-time audio programming 101: time waits for nothing on Wednesday July 10, 2024 @02:58PM (#40930202)
SuperCollider
What is the point? iOS will run a local model for requests that involve personal context and pass requests off to a private cloud instance for requests that are too complex for local inference. For non-personal requests OpenAI or some other service is invoked. Apple isn’t paying OpenAI. Where is the ‘Apple buying their tech’ part in this?
Re:Google Search Is Dead, etc. on Saturday May 18, 2024 @04:37PM (#40401905)
With 82% market share and 8.5B searches/day, I suppose this depends on how you define Goole Search being 'dead.'
IKR? I was like, cool, a little folk diddy and then this monster synth will appear. Nope!

Re:NASA's Bennu Asteroid Sample Contains Carbon, Water on Wednesday October 11, 2023 @12:42PM (#37846788)
Initial studies of the 4.5-billion-year-old asteroid Bennu sample collected in space and brought to Earth by NASA show evidence of high-carbon content and water, which together could indicate the building blocks of life on Earth may be found in the rock. NASA made the news Wednesday from its Johnson Space Center in Houston where leadership and scientists showed off the asteroid material for the first time since it landed in September.
I would propose the following analogy as an answer:

1 - Person A has the flu

2 - Person B does not have the flu

3 - Person A treats the flu with rest, fluids and antiviral medications

If person B also rested, drank fluids and took antiviral medications, they would not become an unusually healthy person. Person B would not become the new normal.

What you're proposing is that it's OK to be sick. We treat every other form of illness with aggressive treatments. Depression is often ignored, poorly treated or treatment is inaccessible to many people due to cost.

What you're proposing is a dialog between a conscious and subconscious self, while in a dream state, where one or the other (or both) forms of being are fully aware of what questions to ask, and what the answers to those questions are. This doesn't sound simple. It sounds extremely complex. And it doesn't explain everything, like, for example, why some people don't dream or can't remember their dreams. Or why other animals dream, unless all animals have a conscious and subconscious self and are attempting to resolve internal conflict.
Your question is less about restarting your career, and more about mental health. I would suggest:

1 - See a therapist. What you wrote is what you believe about yourself, and that belief may be false.

2 - Understand your previous and current behavior. It will follow you, regardless of career.

3 - Be kind to yourself. Others will criticize your career path without understanding your background or history. HN might not be the best outlet to ask for support in this area.

Yes there is hope. Yes you can 'start over.' Begin with asking for help. When you yourself believe tech will consider hiring you, tech will consider hiring you.

Re:Meta stock sinks more than 23% on Thursday October 27, 2022 @04:47PM (#33363822)
I think the logic here is backwards.

Cars didn't become more popular (measured by usage per person) than trains because of the vast infrastructure that was built. Cars became more popular because they were more appealing and useful than trains (for the reason you mentioned - sense of freedom). Cars CREATED the industries you mentioned (highways, gas stations, dealerships, car insurance, etc) because consumers wanted Cars. The demand for Cars increased, new industries were created from the demand, and the combination of all of the above moved the auto industry forward, displacing trains. This isn't a sacrifice, it's the better product winning.

VR will succeed when VR is 'better' than the current non-VR options. People will use VR more, demand will increase, and current or new businesses will start building for VR. Lowering (or raising) the price of a VR headset, releasing new versions of low adoption headsets, or asserting that VR is the future, isn't going to increase demand. Usefulness increases demand.

Re:Adobe to acquire Figma for $20B on Thursday September 15, 2022 @02:36PM (#32856492)
How does this acquisition conflict with a free market? Figma isn't being forced to sell i.e. this isn't a hostile takeover. Figma is free to continue to compete. There's not a 100% clear antitrust case although the $20B buyout could be viewed as anticompetitive behavior (perhaps contradicting my previous statement).
Re:Pure Data: an open source visual language for multimedia on Tuesday August 23, 2022 @05:25PM (#32571761)
MSP is Miller S Puckette. C Sound was the precursor to many of the visual and OO music programming languages, but needed to be compiled and was, well, difficult. Supercollider was heavily influenced by Max/MSP. David Zicarelli of C74 fame had a background in psychology before programming. Kit Clayton wrote the first version of jitter. Autechre are probably the best known artist for using all of the above mentioned software in some form.
Re:AppLovin offers to buy Unity Software in $17.5 bln deal on Tuesday August 09, 2022 @12:40PM (#32400270)
As much as gamers critique Meta's handling of Oculus, Oculus would be dead/gone by now if not for the acquisition. Meta has been dumping fuel/cash on Oculus to keep VR alive and the VR experience has mostly improved over the years.
Re:Show HN: Figure is a daily logic puzzle game on Monday August 08, 2022 @09:39AM (#32385221)
100% use the shapes rather than the colors, but the colors you've chose work quite well.
Re:Show HN: Figure is a daily logic puzzle game on Sunday August 07, 2022 @10:20AM (#32376680)
Thanks a ton for making Figure colorblind friendly. Many/most tile matching games are color-based, making them difficult if not impossible to play!
Re:Don’t do interviews, do discussions on Monday November 08, 2021 @11:15AM (#29150790)
Red flag test. Vague, no guidance around how much time to spend, no guidance around where to focus from a technical perspective (i.e. build anything/everything), bias towards someone who already has some related code completed. Given the lack of clarity, accurately assessing one candidate vs another would be difficult. It also comes off as lazy.
Re:Snapchat raised $1.8B in a Series F round on Thursday May 26, 2016 @03:48PM (#11780914)
The company doesn't have to exit for billions in order for early employees to make a substantial return. Being employed now is a different scenario, though.
Congrats!
Quick promotion - I applied as a solo founder. I'm looking for a co-founder with an EE background and an interest in wearables/hearables. The idea is awesome (of course!) - still in the pre-prototype stage. Would be glad to share more!
Safe to assume that if we applied to both YC Core and YC Fellowship that this email applies to both?
