its amazing how little governments understand sovreignty and borders these days

they have literally no power over things outside their own land borders and people are right to tell them to piss off.

I really like this, any chance of adding a feature to be able to 'replay' the finished races?
This is really interesting

how does the cron jobs work? Like if you add a PWA on the phone and set cron job tasks, how does it know to execute if the PWA is not open at the time?

Show HN: Squadsure a free tool for volunteer sports committees

https://squadsure.com

hey all,I work on a volunteer football committee and one of the areas where amateur clubs struggle in many cases is assessing the viability of teams. Each season yes there will absolutely be teams that will get the numbers, but when clubs want to expand their reach (perhaps into new age groups, into new divisions) it can be difficult to easily gauge whether it is worth opening registrations and...

You're right

but guess who advises that architecture and implements it... the principal developer/architect.

You can use good security tools, badly.

being able to properly deal with scale and security. Being able to be confident that if I am capturing PII data into my application, its as secure as it can be and as secure as if a principal developer had put the architecture together etc.

Yes i cross referenced the data to ensure it was producing the correct numbers vs my manual methods
Re:AI Can Write Your Code. It Can't Do Your Job on Tuesday December 23, 2025 @09:38PM (#46371852)
I used AI to build an app just for myself that parses data (using pandas, python etc, not LLM but an LLM coded it) for a report that i need to produce

it's purely for myself, no one else.

I think this is what AI can do at the moment, in terms of mass market SaaS vibe codes, it will be harder. Happy to be proven wrong.

Just a reminder that the Australian government has chosen to not ban sports betting advertisements including live odds and crosses to betting companies inside sports broadcasts

that kids watch

And parents have asked the gov to ban

But they won't because tax revenue

So don't try and tell me this government is all about the kids

"YouTube didn’t make it through because of how it actively pushes alpha male crap at teenage boys"

Which previously parents could blocking using the parental tools. Now they cannot because logged out will still show said videos.

The government are idiots

Including youtube is where it became stupid, even teachers pushed back against that
Re:Show HN: I made a website to track my subscriptions on Monday September 22, 2025 @02:17AM (#45329686)
I REALLY like the design however, great job.
Re:Show HN: I made a website to track my subscriptions on Monday September 22, 2025 @02:14AM (#45329661)
I think onboarding subscriptions could be a bit better.

Reading bank statement CSVs (and yes, there will be some customers who won't do that and its fine AND you will have to be more security conscious about how that works, dont store it etc) is likely going to see more onboarding success.

I really think the friction to solve here is onboarding, make that smooth and you will get better conversion.

You could of course go down the path of direct bank connection via aggregators but i'd leave that until PMF is found. I do think this will be your main friction point.

I giggled, hard.
