Grief comes in many forms, friend. I hope you can see that.
I had a british room mate for a few years, so...
Basically, "are your thoughts on this final and unwavering?". The "fullstop" was externalized towards them, not towards my sentence.
You've misread.
To be explicit, I guess: fuck CBP and fuck the assholes who think it's okay to "whomp whomp" when peoples loved ones are taken away from them. Giminey...
What have I gravely misread? I'm telling you that it's fucked up to minimize a situation by making a "sad trombone sound". There's really nothing else to my post.

Like, you realize that it's not okay to respond to grief by playing this audio, yeah...? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQeezCdF4mk

the fuck...

Is your unspoken suggestion that the ends justify the means, fullstop?
I appreciate you reflecting on it, but please try to continue reflecting -- saying you get a "sad trombone" reaction is incredibly frustrating to read. You're making light humor around very horrific things as if it's some comedy. These are our friends and families being taken away from us.

2022 DOJ guidance is relevant here:

The policy for the first time directs that good-faith security research should not be charged. Good faith security research means accessing a computer solely for purposes of good-faith testing, investigation, and/or correction of a security flaw or vulnerability, where such activity is carried out in a manner designed to avoid any harm to individuals or the public, and where the information derived from the activity is used primarily to promote the security or safety of the class of devices, machines, or online services to which the accessed computer belongs, or those who use such devices, machines, or online services.
Having been threatened with CFAA charges for using wget to get FOIA files on S3 whose URLs were embedded in the page's source, it's refreshing that intent is at least a small factor. But as with criminal courts, charges alone can absolutely uproot someone's life.

Once sat in a coffee shop in downtown Chicago and overheard two ICE attorneys chatting about why they joined ICE. The gist of it was that they were both very, very aware of the appearances of their work. But they both agreed that it was worth it for their careers to work there for long enough to build a reputation and then move on.

They know that they're working for an evil org and they don't care because it gives them nourishment. If my friends were doing that, I'd have an intervention with them. I hope you do too.

Neat. Did you make this? I really appreciate the documentcloud search.

Would be wonderful to include links/searches to Open Oversight, cpdp.co and ILETSB lookups.

Definitely some weirdness going on in this whole thread in general. It went from front page to 5th page in an instant.
It takes balls to be a whistleblower. I'm not holding my breath that it'll happen.
"I think kids are seeing videos of people throwing these and, of course, only the successful videos make it to their feeds."

What makes you think this? This is such a fucking absurd thing to say.

Fun fact: when a record is created by a government agency, it's done with the expectation that it's going to be FOIA'd. The failure of the agency to maintain records in a way that allows the public to FOIA for their documents is an inexcusable failure by the police agency.

Also, there are many ways to simplify review and redaction processes such that it doesn't cost millions of dollars.

So you're just that much of a badass?
This conversation isn't about tear gas grenades.
When I was 14 I used to think I could shoot a kamehameha if I tried hard enough. Even then I would have made fun of people thinking they'd know what to do when a fucking grenade was thrown at them.
I think you, also, are misunderstanding why their comment is such a ridiculous thing to say.
For the life of me I can't get their comment out of my head. It's just so ridiculous that I can't figure out what their point even is.
Yes, teenagers tend to be pretty stupid but... do you think if a grenade was thrown at you that you'd react rationally?

Say more please!
I hope you watch the movie and can eventually look back on this comment.
SPOILERs kinda: Notably, it's all in the presentation and form of everything that went on. There were about ten different moments in the packed theater where something was said or happened where the entire audience was... silent. tense. I've never felt that sort of palpable and shared tension anywhere in my life like that.
I think I would have had this position prior to seeing the movie. After seeing it last night, I'm 100% inclined to do everything in my power to not spoil the experience. It's truly, truly that wild.

I have no skin in this game, but: friend, are you okay? You're acting like an incredibly weird jerk.
