This could be an extremely interesting legal argument, but I suppose the language used requires a request in 'writing' of some sort, which I suppose HTTP requests would fail.
They already do this for a large portion of Prime deliveries in India. Don't see why they wouldn't expand it to other countries.
Re:Show HN: Razorpay Payment Pages on Friday May 03, 2019 @09:20AM (#19818124)
Razorpay has been such a terrible experience for me as a consumer, that I'd actively avoid using it as my payment processor.

I know at least 3 scam operations having their payments processed through razorpay, and these are proper scams selling non existent products. So far all my complaint emails to razorpay have gone unanswered.

Have the entire world change their implementation rather than the one company which is doing it wrong?

This is not how RFCs work. There's a reason RFCs came about, and it was to prevent this exact type of situation. Just because a company has a large market share, doesn't mean RFCs should be changed to suit it.

Because if they didn't pretend that it was the same to fly a 737 and a 737 max, then they would be required to have pilots get a separate type certification for the max, which is costly for airlines and makes the airlines very reluctant to order the max.
Re:Ask HN: YouTube Unusable on Firefox? on Monday March 11, 2019 @02:29PM (#19361459)
Try loading it with Firefox in extensions disabled mode. The last time I had an issue with Firefox and YouTube, it was due to an extension.
Wow, $1 for 100 emails is very very very very expensive. So expensive that I'd opt to build this in house rather and take on the costs associated with it and still come out saving money.

It's a pretty solid idea otherwise.

Could YC pro-actively get in touch with the folks already working on the project? Sounds like they would be your best bet at success.
Actually a lot of email addresses cannot be validated this way since most ESPs including gmail have adopted an 'accept-all' approach to incoming email. So getting the email accepted by the server is no indication that the address exists, or that the email will actually be delivered to that address even if it exists.
I've created a new issue (https://github.com/asleepysamurai/socketwrench/issues/2) to track this. If it get's enough votes from other users, I'll add it.
Re:Show HN: A Simple Imgur Alternative on Wednesday March 06, 2019 @11:26AM (#19320096)
I'm only getting the Apache Test page.
One of the suggestions that came up more often from people who tried out Socket Wrench was the ability to connect to Socketio servers. However supporting socketio namespaces complicated the UX, so I decided to wait till I got a lot more people asking for SocketIO support to implement it.
It's not open source. I want to keep any possibility of future monetization open for now.

Do PWAs allow you to do things like modify application menus, access the file system etc?
> git-admin repo create awesome-new-project

This is pretty much the only reason, apart from issues, that I actually open Github in the browser for. Now I can do even that from the terminal. Yes! Thank you!

Ask HN: Would you be interested in a Voting-Ring-Detection-As-A-Service

I've been thinking up a lot of ideas of late, which involve some sort of community voting. As always, the problem with voting is voting rings.I had the thought that if I could come up with so many ideas which would require a voting ring detector, maybe others would as well, and that got me thinking of building one out as a service. This post is targeted at people who would need something like...

Ask HN: Help with Interviewing for Software Development Manager Roles

Hi HN, Here's the background. I've been working in software in India for the past 8+ years. About 2 years ago, I got promoted to a Software Dev Manager role, and I have been performing it quite successfully. However, I am now looking out for opportunities in other companies for a similar role. I have had about 4 interviews till now, and it's not progressed to offers. I think the issue is that...

The automatic report generation from templates is nice. But the killer feature for me would be the programmable actions. No more clicking and confirming and verifying while creating new testing accounts sounds like heaven, especially if you're working in a studio developing a new app every month like me.
Re:Show HN: Posthook – Job Scheduling as a Service on Tuesday June 19, 2018 @11:48AM (#17347746)
What happens when you have a service outage? Do you directly mark the hooks as failed, or do you retry once after your service has been restored?
Ooh, this is just in time for me. Was searching for a React charting plugin with multiple styles just in the morning. Will give this a spin in development and come back with more comments. Thanks :)
How does this compare against existing services? Wondering since we use box for file sharing at our company, and file upload speed has never really been an issue for us.
Re:Free email address validation API for web forms on Saturday July 27, 2013 @03:15AM (#6112119)
This has actually existed as an independent library called Mailcheck.js[1] for a long time and I have used it in quite a number of projects. So if that is the only reason you want to use this API it would be better to go with mailcheck.js, simply to remove an external dependency.

> Signatures? One line is still to much for me, all forums need the option to turn off displaying signatures.

Ofcourse, there will be an option to completely disable all signatures.

>Real names? Hmm. That kills basically all but talking about pets or whatever. No forums for whistleblowers, abuse victims, with alternate sexuality and/or religion and the problems arising thereof in certain areas of the world, no place for really nutty art. It's also trivial to make a fake facebook profile I'm sure, so in the end it might offer a false sense of security more than any actual security.

The real name is not for any notion of 'security'. It's a psychological thing, to remind users to be civil to each other.

>The "flamewar control" stuff.. Yup, definately too nosy to me. Wouldn't know the difference between flaming and a burst of creativity and all around merryness, either. Have you ever been member of a really wild forum, I wonder? Why seek technical solutions to social problems?

Believe it or not this actually exists on our very own HN (and discussions here do get 'wild' once in a while). And if it works for HN I don't see why it shouldn't work in other places.

>And then comes "tagging". Just to increase user engagement, because that's useful for the site owner, not because it's useful for the users :/

Actually, this would be very useful to users in conjunction with notifications. There have been many times when I have posted on a particular thread and then forgotten all about it, and so I miss it when somebody responds to me. This has happened annoyingly often.

>And of course, it can't be hosted; gimme the source or I'm not interested in the least.

Why (just curious)? A hosted version is to make it easy for your regular Joe Forum-master. I suspect not many of them would want to learn to manage a VPS.

> Popular stuff on top, unpopular stuff at the bottom makes me think of downvote squads and paid upvoters.

Anti-gaming measures would obviously be part of the system as in HN and Reddit.

> Social logins. What when they go down? See facebook login last week. What about people that don't want to log in with their social account?

Local logins are also an option. However, social logins do indeed provide an ease of use. Perhaps some sort of backup login system might be used as well? Like get the emails when people first sign up and if your login provider is down send a temporary login link to the users email.

>The flamewar control seems that it might hamper legitimate conversations. Imagine 2 or 3 people discussing something civilised, and each time they post, they have to wait 5 minuten or more. I know I'd stop talking pretty quickly.

Have you ever been discouraged from a lively discussion on HN? Believe it or not, this same feature exists on HN, and it works rather well.

Yes, maybe a system of display names would work for this. But the thing is you have an entirely different mindset when you are responding to 'shadowfaxx12' rather than 'Martin Carpenter'. It's more to remind people that there is another real human being behind that particular comment, and to be civil to them.
I tend to disagree. A lot of shared hosting providers still support only PHP. The ratio of providers who support Ruby to those who support PHP is staggeringly small. So, practically the only way to self-host something not written in PHP is to go for a VPS.

While a VPS is quite cheap these days, the skillset needed to operate a VPS is quite different from that needed to install vBulletin on a shared host. This is why I wish to keep this as a fully hosted offering.

I've added four more seconds to each slide's display time.
