This is similar to what I did. Just download the gpx and analyze that. Skips the Garmin API.

A lot of the transit authorities have live maps: https://www.rvf.de/map
Re:Personal Encyclopedias on Thursday March 26, 2026 @04:45AM (#47528025)
I like the overall project and goal. I personally would like a way to ask questions to those that are living or have a template that I can use for filling in family history.

Secondly, the home page seems like I am reading a family history page more than talking about the software. It is confusing to me.

Thanks for sharing.

100% should have an alternative
Can you write one to compare Octopus Deploy?
Re:The US is flirting with its first-ever population decline on Tuesday February 10, 2026 @01:39PM (#46964702)
This is exactly how it was for me and my family when we lived in Wisconsin. We live in Germany now. Everyone walks to school or bikes - there is community.

I used to colocate a 2U server that I purchased with a local data center. It was a great learning experience for me. Im curious why a company wouldn't colocate their own hardware? Proximity isnt an issue when you can have the datacenter perform physical tasks. Bravo to the comma team regardless. It'll be a great learning experience and make each person on their team better.

Ps... bx cable instead of conduit for electrical looks cringe.

Re:Learning a foreign language–before you're born on Tuesday October 07, 2025 @04:44AM (#45500804)
I shared this article with my sister. Unfortunately I have lost faith in most people to read the full article. Within 30 seconds of sending the article she responds with "Sadly I don't know two languages! So we will focus on english together"

To me the point is to toss as much at the brain as possible. Not limit yourself or your child with monoculture.

Definitely need an LLM to just generate it automatically on the fly! Welcome to the future! (Just kidding please don't (generate automatically))

I wish there was a Git way of commenting even anonymously (not necessarily without auth). Then a site like this, written with Hugo, could keep all the comments and the moderation/spam could be built in with a GitHub authorization.
Re:Helium Browser on Thursday September 25, 2025 @07:05AM (#45371471)
I removed myself from beta. I always have iPhone and Android apps stalling on backing up unless the app is open.
Re:The man with a Home Computer (1967) [video] on Wednesday August 27, 2025 @06:23AM (#45037653)
I was also thinking something similar. If it was me as a child it would be quite nostalgic to see a video of myself at 4 years old with my father.

Pretty neat test of image recognition. I don't know why but it bothers me to know that everyone everywhere is being watched by something.

Using the get parameter that is mentioned at the bottom of the page produces a very jarring scroll through all comparisons.
Re:PHP in 2023 on Tuesday January 17, 2023 @10:18AM (#34413402)
I work in PHP each day. I prefer the Yii2 framework and sometimes use Symfony. For some reason I just can't get into Laravel. I tried but the rapid development speed of Yii2 really is the best for my workflow.

I love my Meater+. It definitely changed how I grill or bake food.

I switched to the Logitech M570 and can't go back. It works wonders.
Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @12:19PM (#34277666)
I don't have a palm rest. If I didn't have a Garmin watch to bump up my wrist height I'd probably get one though as it is bulky. I was surprised at how heavy it is.
Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @12:18PM (#34277644)
I got this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SLP2L99

FWIW: They offer a $20 gift card for a review.

I bought a Keychron keyboard as others have mentioned.

On the $300 end though I got a walking treadmill for my standing desk. It is changing my life.

I'm about 2 weeks in and usually avg 5.5 miles a day. Words per minute is still 80 and accuracy hasn't suffered. Worked my way upto 2.6mph. I had to set the office temperature to 66 degrees F though. Worked up a sweat :)

Re:Ask HN: What sub $200 product improved your 2022 on Friday January 06, 2023 @07:19AM (#34273884)
I got one too and love it. Still can't get VIA to work on pop_os though.
Re:Twelve Truths About My Life with Bell’s Palsy (2017) on Wednesday October 19, 2022 @11:17AM (#33263469)
I had it this year as well. Acupuncture helped with the nerve pain and the doctor diagnosed it as bells due to Lyme disease. Acupuncturist said when he was in China they'd diagnose bells palsy as lyme if it presents I'm fall.
The statistic might be accurate but what a terrible way to explain it. "75% of the time we spend with...." what? You already lost me.

Just say that by the time a child is 12, you have 6 more summers left. The impact is greater even if the premise isn't true. Which it isn't. It's a false premise. Now you have X years as an adult.

Ask HN: Use Angellist for incorporating? Trying to raise funds

Hi HN. I am completely green when it comes to raising funds. I have bootstrapped a business that helps ecommerce companies connect with 3rd party logistics centers.I currently have $5k MMR and want to grow fairly stable and hire on 3 developers, 1 qa, 1 designer, and 1 sales next year sometime when funding is there.I am not sure how to go about seeking investment. Angellist looks like a good...

Re:The Ancient Persian way to keep cool on Wednesday August 11, 2021 @09:03AM (#28141496)
How do you keep your bed from getting wet or do you accept the consequence?

I'm going to pursue cold showers at night on really hot days and try to keep the AC off or only kick on if the house temp is 85F.

Re:2020 U.S. Migration Map on Wednesday August 11, 2021 @12:19AM (#28137981)
I wonder how this compares too births, deaths, college graduates... etc
Are you retired? Employees pay you for the time it takes on a job.

If you're retired then maybe you are waxing philosophically about the fleating nature of time.

Adapt or leave. Couldn't agree more. Any time I worked somewhere I felt my needs weren't met I tried to work with my managers to fix that. It is different for everyone but you should at least try.

And if it doesn't work for you after trying, quit batching and change your situation.
