As LLMs advance so rapidly I think that all the AI slop code written today will be easily digestible by the LLMs a few generations down the line. I think there will be a lot of improvements in making user intent clearer. Combined with a bad codebase and larger context windows, refactoring wont be a challenge.
Re:Why is SendGrid emailing me about supporting ICE? on Friday January 09, 2026 @01:17PM (#46557058)
I've been thinking about building a browser extension that turns clickbait headlines into factual titles.

"Why is SendGrid emailing me about supporting ICE?" becomes "Phishing Campaign Targets SendGrid Users via Compromised Accounts and Politically Charged Bait"

I think it would be more time than I'd like to commit though.

Re:NTP at NIST Boulder Has Lost Power on Saturday December 20, 2025 @04:20AM (#46334723)
Can anybody expand on the implications of this?

Being unfamiliar with it, it's hard to tell if this is a minor blip that happens all the time, or if it's potentially a major issue that could cause cascading errors equal to the hype of Y2K.

Re:An LED panel that shows the aviation around you on Tuesday December 02, 2025 @03:15PM (#46126234)
I've seen this done a few different times. FlightRadar24 has a 24/7 livestream in Las Vegas that tracks and annotates them.

Your description above says it's a supported platform FYI
How do you try it out in the web browser? There's no obvious link on the website
Re:Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025) on Sunday March 30, 2025 @08:32PM (#43529325)
I'd love something like this, however the pricing isn't clear. It looks like I have to pay for a $100/yr server license and self-host it?
Re:Jensen Huang – Nvidia GTC 2025 Keynote on Tuesday March 18, 2025 @02:35PM (#43403060)
GTC stands for GPU Technology Conference, for anybody else who wasn't familiar with the acronym. Surprisingly they don't have it spelled out anywhere on the homepage.
Re:Deploy from local to production (self-hosted) on Saturday March 08, 2025 @03:49PM (#43303386)
Agreed. This project isn't that upfront this is a wrapper around 4 commands. Docker build, docker push, docker pull and compose up.
This is fascinating! Are you still looking for labelers? I'm a SWE with about 30 hours of flight time towards a PPL, lots of hours watching VAS Aviation, and have worked on ingesting ADS-B data. So I may be qualified for that type of work.
Re:400 reasons to not use Microsoft Azure on Friday February 28, 2025 @10:33PM (#43215527)
Does Azure's version of Github, Azure DevOps (ADO), still lack the ability to search pull requests?
Tyler Hobbs is one of my favorite generative artists. I recently enjoyed his talk "How to Hack a Painting" from Strange Loop 2017

I'd love to hear more about how you're using models on a phone. Have you written anything about it?
I imagine the first implementations would be a mix of on-device models and procedural generation. For online multiplayer games I could see the cost of running the models baked into a subscription.

I feel that I don't know enough about the gaming world to actively apply my imagination to the concepts and principles that currently exist in that realm.

That article is referencing visuals embedded in PDFs. As a free user you wouldn't be able to ask ChatGPT to analyze a graph inside a PDF, only text.

This guide is a bit over two years old. Can someone comment on whether it still holds up and the tools recommended are still being recommended today?
Re:Ask HN: What should I do with meet.hn? on Friday December 13, 2024 @08:02PM (#42413742)
Connect with HN companies located in the respective cities to host regular "What are you working on?" events where folks would have time for show & tell, then socialize.

As of 2018 all US cars have backup cameras as a required safety feature. I'm not sure if there are any exceptions.

Re:LLMs, Theory of Mind, and Cheryl's Birthday on Friday October 04, 2024 @09:43PM (#41747089)
I think that could be likely. I just asked 4o "When is Cheryl's birthday?" without any other context and was given this reply

Cheryl's birthday puzzle is a logic problem where Albert and Bernard are trying to figure out Cheryl's birthday based on certain clues.

Cheryl provides them with ten possible dates: May 15, May 16, May 19, June 17, June 18, July 14, July 16, August 14, August 15, and August 17.

Here’s the reasoning:

1. Albert knows the month and Bernard knows the day.

2. Albert says he knows Cheryl’s birthday, meaning May and June can be eliminated because they contain unique days (May 19 and June 18). If Albert had been told May or June, he wouldn’t know for sure.

3. Bernard, knowing this, says he now knows Cheryl’s birthday. This eliminates the remaining dates with unique days (July 14 and August 14).

4. Albert then confirms that he also knows the birthday, meaning Cheryl’s birthday must be in July or August, but on a date with no unique days left: July 16, August 15, or August 17.

Thus, Cheryl's birthday is *July 16*.

Re:Ask HN: Who is pretending to be hiring? on Wednesday October 02, 2024 @01:11AM (#41717384)
In the MixRank posting, did you see this section? It looks like they added it after receiving similar criticism.

> We're hiring continuously for the positions below— they aren't singular positions that will close once filled. Our philosophy on hiring is that the candidate is more important than the position. For each new member of the team, we design a custom role and responsibilities that are specialized to their interests. Other companies will come up with a long list of specific requirements for a position with the expectation that you'll exactly replace someone from the team, or that you'll be the perfect tetris piece that satisfies the job requirements decided by a committee. MixRank is more pragmatic: we'll first get excited about having a unique individual on the team, then we'll figure out the best way to accommodate their specific talents.

Is there a way to use it with jupyter notebooks? `pyhttpdbg -m jupyter notebook` didn't work for me
